I sort, pre-sort, re-sort, half court, full snort and sometimes I still can’t find my comments. Then it resurfaces later lol. It’s just not worth worrying about!! 😅
youtube is weird, postings seem to propagate from server to server, which is externally practically invisible. so this is quite weird. and once you refresh, you might be on another server. again, you can't see that.
Even sorting by "Most Recent" doesn't show all of the comments. They are still attached to the video, so the content creator can see them, but they can be hidden on the user side, even from the comment poster. I have occasionally had comments "disappear" for days, only to "reappear" when the content creator reacted.
I’ve had comments disappear in the middle of a thread on youtube. So it is just a matter of looking through like 7 comments to find, or in some cases not find my comment. RU-vid does seem to keep track of them like you said since it notified me about a thread i had commented on. It is just confusing when someone tags me about my comment and not knowing what i had written, so i lose context of new comment youtube notified me about.
@@popenieafantome9527 exactly!! And for the record, I work in IT. I spent 15 years building gaming rigs, 5 years as a LAN administrator (back when that actually meant something), spent 2 years teaching for A+ cert, and currently run the entire IT department at my (admittedly small) business. I have the chops. RU-vid apparently doesn't.
@@russbell6418 Not on the page for the video. At the top left, to the left of the YT logo there are three horizontal bars. Open that up and you'll find 'history'. Go to that page and on the right side you'll see 'comments'. All of your comments will be there, even the hidden ones and clicking on a comment will open up that video page with your comment at the top.
@@popenieafantome9527that happens to me quite often. Will get a notification of a new reply, but my comment is no where to be found. I don't know how that works, but I assume I just used a word yt didn't like.
@@SteveLehtoVault I've had some comments reappear by changing the sort, but never my own. I can see any comment I've made in my comment history and if I click on it I get the video page with the comment highlighted and visible, but if it was a reply and I expand the replies it will be gone again. I suspect the list you have shows everything just like my comment history.
As long as you are logged into your own account, your own comments will float to the top (as long as it is not a reply to another comment). It doesn't matter if you have "top comments" or "newest comments" selected.
@@stormraven4183 If your comment contains sensitve words, RU-vid will automatically delete your comment. Sometimes, content creators will request that comments be held for review. In that particular case, your comment will seem to disappear after you post it. However, it will reappear after the content creator reviews and approves it. Also, I have noticed RU-vid will be glitchy sometimes and behave in totally unexpected ways.
When my comments disappear from most relevant they are still in newest first. Most of the time that they disappear I knew they were on the line and probably crossed the line or contain a word or phrase which is not allowed
Steve, love you bud. Don't worry about the idiots. They will always be there, and they boost your views to boot. Your even tempered logic, good will and humor are why I watch. Gotta figure it's the same for most folks. Just keep on keepin on my friend.
@@obviouscaptain2931 well you’re taking what he’s saying as the whole truth. There is a recent addition of AI moderation which holds and deletes comments for no apparent reason. He omitted that, likely because it’s new and he’s unaware. So, from the perspective of those of us who know, who might we consider to be the idiots here?
Good for you Steve! I am continually impressed with your integrity. Personally, I don't feel my own comments are that profound that they need to be preserved for all eternity!
My cell phone let's me edit comments. Which I often have to do because autocorrect changes my words. Sometimes I fix the "autocorrect correction" and autocorrect sneaks in at posting and changes it back to what it wants. Crazy man. These things have actually taken on a life of their own. We MIGHT be in trouble here . . . . just sayin'
Wow, I just sorted the comments by 'newest first'. I had no idea. Now, I've edited it. I'm not going to remove it though, but it's nice to know that I can.
Thank you Steve for the information. The first part I didn’t know about I was wondering why myself sometimes my comments disappeared on channels I will keep this in mind. I found out a long time ago about how to edit or delete a comment that I had made.
@@flyingark173 Couldn't work out what you were saying for a minute .... until I went to look at the channel name. Ah! Now I understand. :o) Wait, where's my comment gone?
Mmmmmmm... RU-vid has issues, ive been in situations where i leave a comment and im watching the videos, then, as the video plays, im editing my comments.. and when i finalize the edit, i get an error.. not only is the comment not there, to edit it.. I also lose the original comment, and the edit. I've had to create entire new comments and those get silenced also. There's automated filters that are stifling free speech. Its highly frustrating. I haven't noticed it here in this channel, But other platforms for sure.
If it is auto-filtered, it will also be deleted from your comment history on your google account. Which you can access in the "data and privacy" section of your google account management. There is a knowledge base article from Google you can search for that tells you how to find your comment history. Makes it easy to find one you wrote in the past or delete/edit them. Or check if they got auto-deleted. You'll see it in the history as soon as you post it. Then one minute later, it will be gone after you refresh the history. Happens to me so much, I stopped ever trying to edit or think about comments again. I'm afraid to even scroll down since it will show my comment at the top of the page on PC (which I primarily use). I get so upset when I see it deleted for seemingly no reason, that I don't even want to think about it. Makes me not even bother to comment here anymore. Life is better that way.
Add to that, that your comment goes all the way back to RU-vid, then gets retransmitted back, the latency of those packet transmissions, along with any delays on your computer, and its a miracle most comments just don't disappear. And only reappear, days later, when commenting on that video dies down.
I don't have time this instant to look to see if anyone else has explained this but what is going on is RU-vid has many different servers that accept, store and display comments and they do not update them all in real time. So entering your comment goes to one server and it can take up to one full hour for the comments to propagate amongst all servers. If that wasn't enough, comments can be deleted for spam and other reasons automatically by RU-vid , held for review by RU-vid, and they can be sent to the creator for approval as well. Also, after you enter a comment, it almost always moves to the top of all the comments so that you can find all of your own top-level comments. Comments that are replies under other comments can be hard to find. It's a very complex and extensive system and it doesn't function perfectly smoothly in real time.
@@jeaniebird999 I think RU-vid has some technical issues, but there are "community guidelines" that include no links, and AI can make very bad mistakes over misunderstanding things including tone and sarcasm and who knows what else. It's definitely a mess. But things do move around. Turn on notifications and you can hopefully find your comments if they are hearted, liked or replied to. Best I can offer.
Just FYI to whoever may care: If you want to find your comments on a computer, 1) Click your profile pic in the top right next to the bell 2) Select "Your data in RU-vid" roughly halfway down 3) Click "More" 4) Select "### Comments" - on mine it's the third (and last) option, probably a difference if you've posted vids but I don't know
They're playing that ad on the radio again with the disclaimer; "Consent not required for purchase". I keep trying to get it on video so you can hear it, but it's always at the beginning of the ad. lol
I've never wanted to find one of my old comments before, but when I want to see if someone has left a comment responding to something specific in a video, so I can thumbs up/down it if someone has, or make my own comment on it if no one has, I'll load all the comments and "ctrl + F" and search for what I want to find. I'm obviously doing my youtube viewing on a PC.
My Comments always get Deleted by RU-vid, and it use to happen allot more... I know this because I edit my grammar after I post, and when I click Done, RU-vid says there is an Error, and I can Go Onto RU-vid not under my Profile, go to the Comment Section, and go to the Comment I Replied to, and it's Not There! I'd Imagine sometimes it's a Glitch or Errors happen, but generally speaking RU-vid Just Censors me, and through Trial and Error I figure out which words get my Comments Banned, but it's Not Just a Word, it's X amount of Hot Button Words in the same Comment or Reply regardless of Context, but here's the Thing, you have a Channel you can Block Words and Things Yourself, so this Happens Much More on Some Channels than Others, and when that Happens to me to much on a Channel, I tell them Off and Tell RU-vid Not to Recommend the Channel to me. Now if I had comments reported by other people, which can be by Political Partisans here and the Cancel Culture both sides do, but also Russians, or Chinese when you Comment on their Propaganda and How IT Sucks! Than the Threshold of RU-vid Auto Censoring my Comments gets Lowered, and once X amount of your Comments get bounced, you have to start watching your Language to the Point you can't even say Words like Trump or other Hot Button Political Figures, just for an Example, and You Have to Start Speaking in Code to get a Comment through and it is just a Massive Assault on my Freedom of Speech and is some 1984 stuff, which is another thing I can't say if I have been recently Flagged!. . .
As an absurd example of youtube censorship that literally just happened to me: Someone commented saying they didn't know how to find their comment history, so I commented explaining how to find it. That comment got censored.
@@writerconsidered It used to really frustrate me but I don't think I can let it frustrate me any longer after seeing that comment get censored. That was just obviously absurd and like you said I just have to chuckle about it. Still it is frustrating to write out a well thought out comment that just vanishes like a fart in the wind and for no apparent logical/rational reason.
People oftend don't know how comments or social media works. I had somone message me because my FB posts would show up in their news feed and they didn't like that, lol.
@@davidg3944 I could never bring myself to that line. It just wasn’t natural to me. Worked for some. I enjoyed injecting fun into the process and negotiating with customers that knew how to negotiate. I almost feel bad for the guys now who sell on salary.
Warranties, service contracts, and sale offer slips are written to not be understood, so you're putting the fix on your experiment of people's ability to understand...
@@positively_broad_st3780 I am of the belief that when I sign a contract, I do so only after I have read the items and understand what I am signing. In fact, every contract I have signed and drafted carries a very bold obvious bit that say, “I have read this contract and agree to the terms shown.” Just because some folks are liars doesn’t mean the dealer is a dog. If you sign something that you don’t understand, that’s on you. It’s an odd thing called personal responsibility.
Those three little dots provide me these options: Reply Like Dislike Delete Cancel Perhaps the reason I can't edit is because I use an ancient device. That's why I usually just delete, or leave the typos in.
I don’t often comment, but I’m going to comment on the comment on comments vid. I can honestly say I’ve never commented just read the comments on my comment. But thank you Steve for commenting on comments.
Early on I had people commenting that they ether Subscribed or joined, and to sub or join back to them. There were no evidence of them subscribing to me, and I don't have a join button on the channel. They ended up being blocked.
Comments don't get deleted very often. Most of the time they are ghosted by youtube. They are there but buried. For whatever reason youtube always shows my comment to me. But no one else sees it. I've commented years ago on videos and when I go back to that video 5 even 10 years later my comment is shown to me at the top of the comments. No likes or replies but its there for me to see and no one else. And never blame the channel for youtube crap.
How dare you blame me for my own incompetence! 😂😂 Some channels have have filters on their comments to remove foul language or talk about self harm or hurting others.
I'd like for there to be more sorting options and I find RU-vid frustrating at times thanks to their choices but I've never threatened a creator for that. Doing that feels insane to me
I did not "blackmail" a channel, but when that channel made the same kind of infuriating mistakes repeatedly and never seemed to make the corrections suggested by many, many commenters (including me), I finally gave up and unsubscribed. A person (not AI) would do very deep research about very obscure trivia on his topic but wouldn't bother to do a simple search on how to pronounce the names of places he didn't know. Especially annoying when he would have heard of at least one of those places from the very subject he talked about. I don't miss that channel at all. Steve, I love your channels, and can't imagine what you would do that would make me give up on you. Keep going, please.
Was the guy who argued with himself named Phil Hendrie? He used to do that schtick on kfi radio in LA and it was hilarious. He would do himself and two, or maybe even three, other voices and people would call in to argue with them. It was spectacular.
One more thing about recent comments is that more often than not, RU-vid doesn't show them to you. Most of the time if I add a comment or reply, I leave the video and come back I can't find in (even if I found the comment I replied to and I was the only reply). But if I go back next day I see it. That has to do with caching and how "realtime" social media works and syncs between all the servers.
Hey Steve you should come down to Beeville during the Texas Mile and check it out online you would 100% like it.. I could also use some help saving my home from corrupt Tax office .. I would prefer not being homeless by Christmas ..
Comments are also not always instantaneous either. Ya think someone younger than Steve and I could learn to use a computer better than we can?! I blame it all on Apple... God forbid these folks would ever have to wait for their 286mhz PC take 3 minutes to load DOS and another 4 minutes to load Win3.1! 🙃
I wish RU-vid was much more transparent on how comments are handled on their backend, especially if its being held for review or outright removed. I've had it to where after I post a comment and go to refresh the video in question, it is instantly gone - regardless if I sort by most recent or not.
I'm sorry, thanks for your advice, but the top/newest factor isn't the only thing going on. There is also the original vs. response thing. Anyway, they should have a " most snark" catagory.
Now I’m commenting on your comments on comments. There is some sort of review on occasion where my comment disappears for 5-10 minutes at times and I’ve had several comments deleted, especially when it’s a dissenting opinion.
I use the RU-vid app to access YT the most. If I post a comment that might even be slightly inflammatory, I wait about 30 seconds, then try to reply to my own comment. If I get an error, I know I got caught in the filter. YMMV on the YT site itself though.
Steve's list probably includes the deleted comments. I'll get a notification of someone else replying to something I previously replied to and my comment will be missing. If I go into my comment history, find my comment , and click on it, it will show my reply, but if I expand the replies it disappears again. So yes, the person who made the comment and probably the content creator can still see deleted comments.
If someone likes your comment, you get a message. If you press that you sometimes does not see the message. Sometimes a mesaage has 3 answers and wken you press it, it has one or none. To see the answers you need to show all messages but then it might sort away the original further down. So there is a problem with how RU-vid shows comments.
If I post a comment and it gets liked or a heart, I'm happy. If I never see it again, I'm still happy. It's nothing for me to worry about, I have more important things to worry about like is the sky going to fall tomorrow, should I pack a bag in case the mothership comes to take away all of the old people or did I remember to take today's medication. SQUIRREL!!!
changing the sort order can cause a comment to not be visible, sometimes they show up, others they do not sometimes they disappear and even if you refresh the page or look at the page in another browser, your comment is gone then you can return hours later, and sort again and it shows up youtube comment functionality is inconsistent
Admit it Steve. There are a lot of stupid people out there. Maybe I am one of them. I didn't realize this was 'Second Channel'. I didn't even know it existed.
I think it's part of an extension(Channel Blocker) that adds the ability to block users by clicking an X by their name. You can block your own name and no longer see your comments. Have to go back in and whitelist yourself.
Also the servers are not centralized and take time to sync properly. The post could be submitted to one server while the video is streamed from a more efficient connection and pull the comment thread from a cashed index off a third server.
For comments not effected by the sorting feature but still are not visible I don't think comments get removed, I think they just get hidden, but not hidden for everyone. And probably never hidden from the channel owner.
Many people I know are too busy complaining to actually figure out how to fix the issue they're complaining about. The rest just constantly complain about what they can't change. It's a waste of energy either way.
Occasionally I like to comment on videos where someone has done something different or unusual and just write: "That's FAKE!" Easier than creating 20 accounts so I can argue with myself.
Hey Steve, I've only seen 4mins of this video and I have the same problem with my cellphone lagging out the comment I post , the comment will sometimes appear later after I've reloaded my cellphone but it's not the top comment thing as you was saying... I think it's a glitch information or my cellphone has been under monetization or something like that or it could be my older cellphone is getting too old to keep up with everything uploading in the background as like notifications .. Please be patient with them ...
One of the comments I made on another channel wont be beat, it had over 40k likes in two weeks. Most my comments are 40 likes at most but this particular one had me laughing at how quickly the likes akyrocketed. Probably will never happen again.
