I did this for 12 years. Worked my way up to captain. While I didn't learn a lot and loved it, It could be very difficult and push you to the limit both mentally and physically. I miss it, but am much better off now having moved on.
If you're worried about the money don't even consider getting on a commercial fishing boat of any kind. We don't because we love it, it's not for guys that just wanna make money. You gotta be dedicated, I've spent many holidays in the ocean and still do.
Don't do it. Commercial fishing keeps getting worse each year. More importantly it's extremely dangerous work. My former friend got swept overboard by a big wave while working on a commercial longline boat out of Montauk New York. He was only 21 and they never found him.
@@diddymorbux8062 Indeed. 500 would be the minimum too. Thats like 15 hours of work. Do a few 30 cagers a week and you're bringing in close to 3 grand a week.
@@ryanm5555 , I forgot, I believe there are like three or four companies that own clam boats. But I didn’t mind getting fired from Big Bob. I got a job on Jersey Devil instead.
