Great content! I graduated ATP a while back and the training is world class! I remember being where you are in the program having to knock out 5 written exams in such a short time frame at the same time flying all over the place building time for your commercial checkride. Considering doing the ATP either in Tucson or Phoenix. How is the ATP site in Tucson?
@Pilot_Ty
@Pilot_Ty 5 месяцев назад
@@robertomora it’s actually rather small compared to the ATP’s in Phoenix. They have 3 planes down here, Cessna 172’s with G1000. The cool thing though is I hear smaller locations are a little bit more personal when it comes to training(same pace just less students) however I would recommend going to the ATP that’s the closest to you unless you’re willing to move for the school. Either way when I get to my multi engine training and CFI academy I’ll have to stay in a hotel up in Phoenix because those portions of training are up in Phoenix. (hotels/travel are included in ATP pricing)

Thank you for all of this info man. It truly is helpful. I am thinking about doing the program and paying put of pocket. I am willing to go to any flying school as long as it’s an accelerated program. If you were in my position, would you take the same route or would you have gone about it differently. The main reason that draws me to ATP is the fact that you have a really good chance of getting a job as a CFI and that allows you to build your hours quite quickly. There are other programs like the one that blue line aviation that take you 6 months and a half to complete but there is no guarantee of a CFI position. Any thoughts on this?
@Jahmalthepilot
@Jahmalthepilot 4 месяца назад
I’m glad I could help! I honestly thank all accelerated program aren’t much different. ATP doesn’t always guarantee you a CFI job either. Many graduates of the program get put on a waiting list for months. The best thing about ATP is that they have locations everywhere, but I wouldn’t necessarily say they’re the best flight school. Blue line might be better. I would recommend looking more into pricing, aircraft availability, and DPE access rather than the length of the program because that will always be longer than what any flight school tells you, it’s just marketing.
@robertomora

FOI - Fundamentals of Instruction 6. FII - Flight Instructor Instrument Airplane I recommend taking the IRA and FII at the same time or a few days apart. For your PAR study using Gleim, Sporty's, or King's School all are great. For the rest use Sheppard Air.

@Jahmalthepilot
@Jahmalthepilot 7 месяцев назад
@@chriscappy6540 Pretty much all of it. They charge the 75k in two payments which they already did. The checkrides and written exams aren’t included. Checkrides out here in Denver are $1000 each and writtens are $175 each. My housing is $890 per month. Then I got a $1300 living expense disbursement for 5 months. Now I have about 3k left. Thats why I’m not doing CFI, CFII, and MEI because I’d run out of money. Those checkrides are typically more expensive than $1000 and then I’ll still need housing money 😬.
@user-rx6yt7ix5e
@user-rx6yt7ix5e 7 месяцев назад
Would you recommend spending a few years saving up enough money to pay for the program and living expenses rather than taking out a loan? I’m 24 and have a family of 4. It would take me around 5 years to save up enough, but I know this is what I want to do. I’m currently a professional truck driver and make enough money to save around $30-40,000 per year. Thankyou for your time and congratulations. Respectfully, Chris
@jeramydavin4061

This is what I'm doing. Also making about 40k net. I paid my way through my private doing 1-2 lessons/week and passed first try with 60 hours tt and it took a year and about $9k. Trying to save up $10k-ish and then get through my instrument in like a month. My advice: get all your ground out of the way. Do your written and studying before you start whatever license/rating you're going for. Saving up will be tough but worth it. See you in the skies 🤙🏼
@Pilot_Ty
@Pilot_Ty 7 месяцев назад
Think about this, the longer you wait, the more money you forfeit on the back end of your career, so every year you wait, you give up $400,000-$500,000 PER YEAR. Seniority is king in Aviation. That’s millions in Net income just gone. The loan is worth it, if you can SEE IT THROUGH. You will see it through!!
@Jahmalthepilot
@Jahmalthepilot 7 месяцев назад
Definitely! If you have the means to pay out of pocket I say do it. I don’t think you’ll have a problem with that at all. Being able to put away 30-40k a year is honestly extremely good especially at 24 years old. My instructor paid out of pocket, and he has zero debt from ATP. Personally I just wasn’t making enough money to do that. It would’ve taken me like 5-10 years to pay out of pocket and I really wanted to get in the industry ASAP, so taking out a loan was the fastest option.
@mitchellhall7382
@mitchellhall7382 7 месяцев назад
Search online for a "loan calculator". You'll see that a $120,000 loan is dramatically more dibilitating than a $50,000 loan. So, if you do want to save some money to put towards education, don't think you need to save > %100 of the cost.

Can anyone give a clear answer on what atp pays the cfi's? I have heard different things. I just don't see how they can pay you less than your monthly loan payment like I've heard

Information from the website - $20.70 / Flight Hour - $17.25 / Simulator (AATD) Hour - $17.25 / Pre- and Post-Flight Briefing and Ground Hour - When applicants pass a practical test on the first attempt: $143.75 Bonus for Private, Instrument, and Commercial $86.25 Bonus for all other ratings

@theghastlygamer5326
@theghastlygamer5326 7 месяцев назад
@Jahmalthepilot thank you. I heard they can get around 100 hrs a month. I'm guessing that doesn't include ground or sim. So i will guesstimate Round 2k a month not counting ground, sim, and bonuses
@theghastlygamer5326
@theghastlygamer5326 7 месяцев назад
@Jahmalthepilot I really appreciate your response. I was trying to calculate if I would be able to make enough to pay my bills while in the cfi stage. I will only have enough to cover my bills for 7 months so once I started getting paid I needed to make sure i could at least cover bills
@Jahmalthepilot
@Jahmalthepilot 7 месяцев назад
@@theghastlygamer5326 Yeah no problem man, it's great that you're planning ahead. The CFIs I've spoken with say its not the best, but you can make it work if you're smart with your money. And I'm out in Denver where it's a littler bit more pricey than the average city. But honestly in my opinion there are so many other schools out there that will pay you more than ATP and you'll fly just as much if not more. ATP CFI pay is really low. At KAPA line guys make more money than an ATP CFI.
