Quick video on replacing the power switch on 1084 monitor. Should have shown more but hopefully it helps someone. Also, unpack some goodies from TFW8b.com.
Purchased 3 power switches from the gentleman in this thread so figured I would give one away.

I really like the Channel btw...DEAD giveaway that the Video Cable is Composite only is that it is a 5 pin version. -Mark.

Good point. Chrominance is on pin 6 so obviously can't have a 5pin DIN connector.

Hey there! Liked and subscribed. I have a 1084 with that same broken switch, seems it was a common issue. Did I win? Ha ha! I also just ordered some stuff from TFW8B as well, having just finished up a mild restore on a C64c. Great job with the channel!

Yea based on my research seems super common and the fix is super easy so might as well do it right. If you live in the contiguous lower 48 states, you won.

do you still have any power switch replacements? I'll buy one from you! I live in the U.S! I have the same problem. My 1084s monitor has no picture when I turn it on, plus no static when I touch the tube, but the sound is working. When I turn the brightness all the way up, nothing is shown. What do you think could be wrong.

Sorry, I don't have any more switches but I believe they are still available. If you turn up the brightness and hold in the power button do you get anything? You should definitely hear some static and red led light on the power button.

@@jacklick Thanks for the reply. I turned on the monitor and turned up the brightness, but there was still no picture. I just hooked up a VCR to the composite inputs to test. There WAS static on the screen however. The stereo sound is working. The Red led light is working, when I hold the button in.

@@joestradamus75 if there is static, you have high voltage and i would expect brightness control to create white raster screen. I havent worked on 1084s so hard to tell you were to go from here. You will have to break out the manual, check b+ voltage and go from there.

Those PREH ME5A switches are made in hell! Literally all of them fail! Fun fact: I ordered 5 brand new ones and 3 have already failed after 2 days! Worst design in the world. This is what I do with them since all of them fail: I replace the switches that will not latch, I keep them turned on and I use a cable with a built in switch. Not the most elegant solution but at least I get to keep using my old Commodore and Philips monitors...

@@jacklick No videos here. My fix is very simple: I just keep the PREH switches on at all time and I add an external switch ;-) I've got 6 of these monitors so I don't want to keep opening them up all the time and just use them ;-)
