I spent too much time watering last year... Can you tell me what type of drip system that you like to use? I need to order all of it..
Living in Phx i totally agreed 💯 %. I always watered my roses where the roots is. I never wet its leaves, it stay green shinny. Water all my plants and vegetables by hand. I guess because i have a baby garden lol. And no i am very consistent with watering them. Daily in the evening when it gets hotter 2x daily morning and evenin i love water it by hand it's like therapeutic for me. Btw love how you tell those people " are you dumb"...lol because it's true they need to hear it sometime 😁
I do not plant anything in the ground>>>BOUGHT>>>>> until rain in the forecast>>>No rain then I use a reservoir at the bottom>>>>but in reality it depends on when and where you plant it and what type of tree you are planting....
I believe putting 2-3 inches of good mulch when I put new plants in the ground and a good soaking then water them every morning by 9am until I'm sure they don't need water every morning 👍✌️
Hey Allen, thank you for another informative video. I noticed right at the end you mentioned a persimmon. I planted one a couple months ago and I haven't found a whole lot of videos on them in the Phoenix area so I was just curious how your tree does and if it produces for you. I put in a Jiro variety. You're right about hand watering a lot of plants is time consuming. I don't have nearly as many potted fruit trees as you, but it takes me two to three hours to water my 100+ plants, depending on whether I'm growing seasonal vegetables. That said, I have never lost a plant due to it drying up or being "over-watered". I lost count of the number of videos I've seen where growers claim a plant or series of their plants died because they failed to notice that their drip had malfunctioned. Being able to see each plant every day has enormous advantages. Not talking about a walk-by. While I'm standing over each plant for up to a minute while watering, I'm examining the soil, mulch, branches, leaves, blooms, and fruits. I can get a jump on any threats of disease or pests at the outset. I can adjust the amount of water required for each container, depending on micro-climate/location, daily weather changes, size/maturity of the plant, fruit development cycles etc. If I were in your situation, I would probably go with automated irrigation, if possible, but for me in my garden down here in south Florida, it's not, and hand watering has served me well.
That is right. There is no alternative left other than a drip irrigation plan for my terrace potted plants. It is not possible to carry and water the plants endlessly. The non contact infrared thermometer reads 141 F and minimum 112 F on flat roof surface. Wet Soil surface temp being 93 F at the same time.(May, april)
i have chilean guava, which has much smaller leaves, and takes full sun no problems after established in ground. havent had much fruit at all from it but it's mostly a structural nice bush for me in a border.
I had my Mexican Cream guava in a pot from fall to spring and it did well, looked healthy from watering on my enclosed porch. I planted it in spring and it did well thru the hot summer of the Sacramento Valley with sprinkler water. Come winter I put stakes around it and covered it with blankets and it was in a corner of the yard and protected from wind, but by the end of winter it died. I was sad. Unfortunately the Mexican guava did not like our few 30 degree and a few 28 degree temps. The blankets were not enough. I should have put a heater in there. I will stick to the feijoa pineapple guavas for this area. Thanks, Alan, for your summer watering tips, and how passionate you are about plants and trees.
