what about installing the splash guard on the check valve on the oil pan. GM has a TSB and a part for that.

@@CrazedPerformanceRepair TSB 10-06-01-008M:
@PosiP
@PosiP 5 лет назад
The new valve cover is included with this TSB. Purchased the valve cover from Summitt, they have stock. This Bulletin has been revised to update Warranty Information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 10-06-01-008L. Condition Some customers may comment about engine oil consumption of vehicles with higher mileage (approximately 48,000 to 64,000 km (30,000 to 40,000mi) and a service engine soon light being on and/or rough running engine. Verify that the PCV system is functioning properly. If the customer understands that some oil consumption is normal and still feels the consumption level is excessive, more than 1 quart per 2000 to 3000 miles of driving, perform the service indicated in this bulletin. It is no longer necessary to have the customer return multiple times to have the usage verified. Cause This condition may be caused by two conditions. Oil pulled through the PCV system or oil spray that is discharged from the AFM pressure relief valve within the crankcase. Under most driving conditions and drive cycles, the discharged oil does not cause a problem. Under certain drive cycles (extended high engine speed operation), in combination with parts at the high end of their tolerance specification, the oil spray quantity may be more than usual, resulting in excessive deposit formation in the piston ring grooves, causing increased oil consumption and cracked or fouled spark plugs (# 1 and/or # 7). Refer to the latest version of Corporate Bulletin Number 12-06-01-001. Correction Note : When installing the updated valve cover or reinstalling a used valve cover, verify that the baffles can hold water and do not leak. If any leaks are found, seal with RTV if possible or replace the valve cover. Thoroughly clean and dry the valve cover before installation. Aluminum or Cast Iron Block - Oil in Intake Manifold - Install Updated Valve Cover on All Models Built Prior to February 1, 2011 Note : If vehicle is built after this breakpoint, it should already be equipped with this updated valve cover. 1) Old Design 2) New Design PCV pullover or an overactive lifter can cause oil to be pulled through the PCV system even at low vehicle mileage. A correctly functioning PCV system will only leave a film of oil in the intake manifold. Inspect the intake manifold to see if there is any oil puddling in the bottom. If there is you will need to replace the left valve cover. Two new left rocker arm covers have been released for trucks and vans. Technicians should replace the left rocker arm cover with GMP/N 12570427 for 2007-2008 or GMP/N 12642655 for 2009-2011. Refer to the Parts Information below for the Camaro. This rocker arm cover has a relocated PCV drain hole that prevents oil from entering the intake manifold. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Left Side in SI. Note : These rocker covers are for specific years. The PCV orifice is different for each. The correct cover must be used or an SES light may set. Aluminum Block - Oil Getting Past Piston Rings - Free Up Piston Rings and Install AFM Shield on All Non-Hybrid Models Note : If vehicle is built outside of this breakpoint, it should already be equipped with this AFM shield or the pan does not have an AFM valve (LFA before July 7, 2009). To correct this condition, install an AFM shield, perform the piston cleaning procedure as described in this document and install a new oil pan gasket per the procedure outlined in this document. Monitor oil consumption after this repair to ensure oil consumption has improved to acceptable levels. If this repair does not correct the condition, it may be necessary to replace all of the piston assemblies (piston and rings) with new parts. Refer to SI for repair procedure. Important : It is critical in this cleaning process that the engine/fuel injector cleaner remain in the cylinders for a minimum of 2.5 hours to fully clean the components. The cleaner solution must be removed before a maximum of three hours. 1. Remove the spark plugs and ensure that none of the pistons are at top dead center (TDC). 2. Clean the pistons by putting 118-147ml (4-5 oz) of Upper Engine and Fuel Injector Cleaner, GMP/N 88861803 (in Canada, use 88861804), in each cylinder. Allow the material to soak for at least 2.5-3.0 hours, but no more than three hours and then remove the cleaner. A suggested method of removing the cleaner is cranking the engine over. Make sure to unplug the ignition coils and fuel injector before cranking the engine over. Also make sure that the painted surfaces are covered so no damage is done. 3. Remove the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement in SI. 4. Remove the AFM valve (1). 5. Install the new shield (1), GMP/N 12639759, and tighten the AFM valve to the oil pan to 28 N.m (20 lb ft). Important : Ensure that the engine cleaner is thoroughly removed before reinstalling the spark plugs. Failure to do so may result in a hydro-lock condition. 6. Reinstall the spark plugs. Replace the spark plugs if necessary due to full of carbon. Refer to the parts catalog. 7. Reinstall the oil pan. Refer to the Oil Pan Installation procedure in SI. Replace the oil pan gasket if necessary. Refer to the parts catalog. Replace the engine oil. 8. Re-evaluate the oil consumption. Document on the repair order. If the oil consumption is still greater than 0.946 L (1 qt) in 3,200 km (2000mi), replacement of the pistons and rings will be required.

I did my oil pan, oil pump, rear main seal, dog bone and front seal. The o-ring on the oil pump broke in two when I removed the pickup tube. I tested the bypass valve and it bypassed at 10 psi air pressure. I put a plug in its place. One pan bolt had pulled threads but I did not know it till reassembly. The pan gasket had been replaced previously but a bolt was installed in the wrong spot. It was too long and burst thru and damaged the pan gasket. So watch out for that. It was done before I got the truck. I did install the front and rear main seals without a alignment tool. Just note that the pan was removed when I put them on. I did not replace the timing chain. It was perfect. I did replace the timing chain guide. The spring was not running true and was scouring the backing plate. The main reason for the work was #1 the oil leak from the damaged pan gasket. #2 low oil pressure. I put a melling high volume pump. The pressure is 70 at idle when cold. After warm up its 40. #3 Replaced the torque converter with a B&I billet heavy duty tow haul. 270,000 miles 6.2 6l80 2008 Denali has vvt but no dod.

Very informative! The little thing on the oil pressure relief is a deflector that makes the oil go down into the pan instead of up and it’s supposed to be GMs answer to one of the probes I heard somewhere else that’s and after market fix I wonder if someone installed that and I also been seeing that the make plug to just get rid of it and that sounds like a better option if it works. I’m trying to learn about it myself my oil pressure is going high for a period and I mean 80+ and then dropping down and sometimes going to zero I’m really stuck and tired I’m trying to see if I need to replace that O-ring and your video taught me to check for bubbles so that’s cool! I was wondering if some AT-205 might swell the o-ring back up, I haven’t seen anyone try that and the AT 205 is hard to find for some reason!
@CrazedPerformanceRepair
@CrazedPerformanceRepair 3 месяца назад
I'm not sure about at-205 never messed with that. If it swells gaskets like a o-ring I'd be worried about other seals in the engine like timing gover, oil pan, rear cover etc. You might end up making those separate and create a much larger leak. You most likely have an oil pan leak already, so you may as well do the o-ring. It's only a 5-hour job according to the book on 4x4 trucks. It only takes me about 3 hours tops with interruptions.

@HR-wd6cw 3 года назад
Aside from lifter issues specifically, the biggest other problems I've seen (at least with the 5.3's) oil pumps going out and the pick-up tube o-ring cracking and either causing air to get ingested or causing the tube to drop or otherwise not suck up enough oil, and the oil pressure sensor sending unit going out (and in some cases, I've read people having to replace the sending unit multiple times over the life of the vehicle).

The second Cam Bearing is a common oil pressure loss area so be sure to replace those to. Norris cam is a great choice though. If you go to a standard volume pump then remove the release valve. That pump is going to be too high of volume for that build though. Since you added the oil squirter's but removed all the AFM vvt stuff, I would go stock high volume. That pump will just be pouring oil past the pump and pan bleed off constantly.

It could be the camshaft bearings, but it could also be the lifters themselves. Pull the valve covers off and run the engine. If a ton of oil squirts over the fenders from the lifters pushing it up the pushrods then your lifters are junk.

Hey there don't know how often you reply. I got a 2007 cadillac escalade 6.2 engine. Model 7-13 are all the same engines and shares it with GMC DENALI TAHOE SILVERADO that are 6.2. I have a code P0011 Camshaft and Code P0523 OIL Pressure... My dash on says I have low oil pressure. Long story forward. I notice the that the wires leading to my Variable Timing Solenoid was corroded and making contact I chop the wires and replaced brand new and also with the oil pressure sensor and replaced the sensor new. Problem consisted. Telling me the same codes and dash telling me oil low. I went and replaced the engine variables timing solenoid magnet and pin that goes in the spraked. Problem still consist. Before all this problem went on and off on and off and my engine knock from time to time. Now it still does the same on and off time to time... don't know what else to do. Engine feels good while running but from time to time it's knock like if something else going on. What can you advice me to do.

My wife's 2012 Denali had the oil pressure issue where it now drops gradually to 5 psi as the engine warms up. I replaced the oil pump and the o-ring for the pick up tube with no change. What's going on? There's no noise from the top of the motor when this happens (no lifter or valve noises). I'm frustrated with this because the motor was running too well to have just fallen apart overnight. I change the oil regularly (5k miles) and use Mobile 1 synthetic 5w30 with the ac delco filter. I found one reference on a message board about a guy who says the problem most often is the thrust plate right in front of the camshaft. You unbolt the cam gear the replace the thrust plate. Its got a very thin gasket built into the back of it. It flattens out and as the engine warms up .....pressure passes by. If you shut the engine off and restart pressure comes back for a little bit. Do you know what he’s talking about? Does that sound plausible?

@@CrazedPerformanceRepair It turned out to be the thrust plate. The built in gasket wears down and flattens out, allowing oil to slip by and go to the oil pan underneath the timing gear and, effectively bypassing the oil pump. For two weeks now, the oil pressure is normal (approx 60 psi at cold start, 40 psi at operating temp and normal operating rpm, with it dropping to just above 20 psi at idle). We have a 2014 6.2 liter Yukon XL, first it developed a miss-fire and traction control came on. Dead miss on cylinder #1, Took to shop and had all lifters replaced and cylinder heads cleaned of sludge when they were removed. 3500 miles later exact same problem occurred, FYI after 2 mile downhill then stopped at red light each time. When accelerated the traction control illuminated and service engine light came on with a rough run situation. Once again cylinder #1 miss-fire. Took to a different shop and lifters replaced with a new oil pump. 3 thousand miles later, miss-fire #1 and cam lobe damaged on cylinder #1 intake. Note: Did run engine with valve cover off, and finger pressure on that intake valve (#1 again) would quit moving the valve. Any Thoughts on why this keeps happening and what can we do to prevent it from happening again? Fit new oil sending unit between first and second time due to a sending unit fault that caused ses light to come on. Considering putting in a towing cam with 3 bolt face. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, Thank you, Melanie.

If the cam is damaged it's time to delete AFM/DOD. To upgrade cams will require a tune so you will need a way to get a custom tune. Had it been fixed right the first time the system could have been disabled rather then to continue replacing lifters. These systems fail from low oil pressure, under 27psi at the lifter during activation to be specific. It can be caused by many things. Actually, it depends on context. Aside from the oil sump o-ring the bottom end of the engine is extremely reliable. The top end is the section that sees all the problems. This is mostly do to them adding the DOD/AFM system to their engines. Without that system they usually last 400k plus miles before needed engine repair. Most domestic vehicles today are lucky to see 200k miles without major engine repairs to the timing components. This has to do with the complex multi-camshaft engines of the modern vehicle vs lack of maintenance from the consumer at the suggested maintenance from the manufacturer.
