Way back when, for a few months each year the Toronto FM station CFNY ran a talent search for indie bands. This group made the cut for at least one week, and I liked the music so much I recorded them when they were up against next week's best act. I don't know who they are or whatever happened to them, but wow I love the power-pop sensibilities of this song. Fantastic voice!!!

Now we realized that the song wasn't unknown, rather that there's not much info about the band until new info has been found. I love the song

COMMON LANGUAGE were a New Wave band from Hamilton ON. Band members: Vocals- Debbie Griffith, Guitar- Eden Curnock, Bass- Brian Pincombe, Drums-Don MacDonald. This song was recorded at 42nd St. Studio. Later recordings were all done at Grant Avenue Studio, with Daniel Lanois. It was an intense period for New Music and CFNY were a huge supporter.

Thanks for posting these two songs. That year had a bunch of excellent entries. Would love to hear Unfamiliar Vista and Conditioned Response again.

This song reminds me of vocals of Maanam but the band Maanam isnt the band that sang it.

@@GitarCarl Oh, I like that one. I appreciate that you preserved your Talent Search recordings, as I cannot find anything on the band online. Do you happen to remember the names of any of the DJs that hosted the Talent Search in the early '80s?
