Hi mikko, Bert Ligon has a book dedicated to this outlines concept, it's called Connecting chords with linear harmony. He elaborates more with licks etc.

Another great lesson! It takes years to find the important things to focus on to master this instrument. I really appreciate someone who can find the core concepts that help us to that end. Thank you Mikko

HI Mikko.............I stumbled upon your channel today and have very much enjoyed what you’ve had to say. I’m a (73 year old) clarinet player, not a guitarist. I returned to my instrument about 8 years ago after decades of absence. Your information, musical insights and knowledge cross whatever boundary might exist between between my instrument and yours or, I suspect, all instruments. Music is after all music and the process of improvisation is, at least to my simple mind, transferable. And to top it off, besides being a damn fine guitar player, I congratulate you one being an excellent communicator. Thank you!!

This book is really brilliant at many levels. Explanation are simple but accurate and powerful (= things presented in the book can be used for real playing). Practicing melodic outlines intensively is a great way to know your fretboard in a musical way. Bonus : what you learn can be applied to any songs.

A student of Bert Ligon’s pronounced the surname as Lig (rhymes with fig) and Gon as in the last syllable of polygon. The G was pronounced at both the end of the first syllable and at the start of the second. Whether this is how Mr. Ligon pronounces it, I don’t know.

Hello, nice lesson. I am a classical guitarist about grade 6 level(Trinity College London). I saw so many books about jazz and as you can predict i am overwhelmed. My interest in pursuing jazz music would be to learn fingerstyle jazz as all the technique learned so far will be easily transfered to jazz playing technique wise. I read in the sample of the book jazz comprehensive training by the same author, he says that the three books that he has written will provide enough material to be a jazz musician what do you think? Could you suggest book so that i could start learning chords required for jazz music from fingerstyle approach. Sorry for writing so long......

I just treat "the long walk" as a daily meditation and stopped beating myself up for slow progess.
