1 mistake I will never do again: RUSHING to publish my video without first watching it myself right after rendering from my video editor. Triple checking my videos before upload allows me to spot minor mistakes and do certain improvements that produces a much better outcome :)
this is honestly such an easy and good way to make your videos better, I make funny moments clips with my friends and I, and after watching the same jokes a couple times you can cut lame jokes and add to the existing jokes with funny little additions
I have reach my one thousand but my numbers are still stuck and people say they added me but my numbers of people still the same but my tubby buddy say one thousand one hundred it's not updating my numbers but it's is in tubby buddy
The two mistakes I made were allowing the haters drive you away from making content and the other is losing the passion to create content. Note : the journey will take some time to reach your desired dream and goals but trust me, it's worth it.
There's a Science to RU-vid...Very important to create content people find Useful and/or Entertaining, and to do it WELL. Consistency is the Key; Great Video.
Hello there! Just stumbled across this video in recommended tab, and oh my there are lots of relatable problems and solutions to them mentioned, served greatly as well. The topics that resonated the most with my own experience were "off-topic content", "trying to imitate" and "not allowing yourself to do mistakes", as those were all present and affected the flow the most. Although, I do still struggle with Inconsistency. It is quite obvious that channels that upload somewhat frequently (but not too frequently, since that can be seen as spam and generally annoying, plus doesn't let each individual upload fully shine) tend to gather attention more efficiently. However, personally I cannot upload often, due to -procrastination- taking my time with video ideas: imho it's better to polish a video than to publish a bit more of them but with noticeable flaws. What is that line (or rather a broad border), crossing which will count as inconsistency by the audience? My current take is one week, but it still seems like too much for a single video (which usually gets created in 15 work hours + gameplay time).
Glad this resonated with you. I personally say that it's great to take time and polish your videos. If you try to do daily content for example, the quality may suffer since you're lacking time to edit. Seems like you have a good mindset. Keep going! Thanks for watching!
Sounds like i gotta stop holding back on that next great idea, that next great keyword to make a video on, and just keep constantly making videos for my audience who already appreciates what i do. Thanks for the great advice, gave me a little confidence in my progress so far and has made me realise im doing fine, and to lower my expectations of youtube while i grow. Another great video mate! :D
That's so true. Never assume you deserve to be seen. It's all about working hard, putting in hours and hours of work and then if you're somewhat lucky, RU-vid will reward you. But that can take time. So the key is being patient and consistent and your time will come!
TBH I've stated seeing a HUGE increase after adding subtitles and translations! LIke a world of difference! I just don't know if my audio quality is good enough! And I don't pay for them, I caption and translate myself for free! Maybe I should make a video about how to do that? lol
Success is in the eye of the beholder. I am thrilled to have almost 3k subs and qualified to become a YT partner in less than a year of posting my first video. Because of life I have to take breaks from YT and until I can do this full time it is healthier for my family life to just step away every few months. Great video Rob!
After we moved from our old house to a temporary house, I was suffering from relocation depression. I made more than 100+ bad decisions during this period (including* thinking to quit RU-vid for a year) because our new temporary house looks really bad and has no windows make me feel demotivated. But now I might be rethinking my decisions. But I'm still a bit depressed and feel sick. But I really don't want to quit filmmaking or photography or my dreams.
One of my clients asked me - why I can't promote my RU-vid channel, where I create totally the same videos with popular channels. I replied to him - Are you kidding me? People will never watch the same videos twice - they want to get something new. Create your style. Steal competitors' ideas to adapt to your preferences.
I would never suggest to anyone that you should "steal" other's content, but I do see your point. Learn from what other's are doing, put your spin on it. Most importantly, create content you enjoy creating for the purpose of giving value to your audience.
@@SPLITSO it's not stealing everything is inspired! I've started a RU-vid channel as an experiment and it was to be as inproginal as possible in someways. The whole idea of style scares people from starting, attempt to 'copy' attempt to emulate and you will naturally develop a style without trying...
I completely get you on talking to the camera. I feel like i'm super robotic on camera, and it get's better with each video. I also see that it really starts to come together in post. My other issue is writing scripts and story boarding. I overthink that crap way toooooo much.
@@vidIQ I started using a lens mounted teleprompter, made shooting much easier for me, and with a little practice, I don't think people can even tell that I'm using one. Spending half my day shooting was killing my will to make videos.
7:10 - I did this 3 times. Months of break. And yeah it messed my channel up very bad. 100s of thousand to Millions views ... straight to rock bottom. 😅
I like how you said that there's still things you don't know about RU-vid, even though you've been at this for years now. You don't insist that you are the expert of everything RU-vid, but you definitely help where you can. I think that makes you more human, more vulnerable, and more authentic. And also, JUST GET STARTED! I've been "waiting to start" for 2 years now. (Oy-Vay). I'm just now getting to a point where I'm actually attempting to truly make my videos, even though I'm putting them on private for now. Thanks for all the awesome content. :-)
The biggest mistale I made was thinking I needed to wait until I had a really good camera/microphone, until everything was "perfect" timing. It's never going to be the "perfect" time.
Rob, you excelled yourself in this one. Probably the most heartfelt training you've ever done. Thank you. It amazes me how so many people seem to think everyone owes them and will watch every second of their videos and just expect them to sub. We for one just can't help having a look every day to see if we got another sub :) even though our videos only go up once per month or two. But we also understand that we can't build our coach any quicker with money and time constraints but when it's done the adventure videos will be so much more consistent. thank you again for your videos I for one watch as soon as I get the notification.
Small tips for anyone who wants to improve audio quality but cannot afford a new microphone or even upgrading from the internal microphone: 1. If you use a laptop you likely have someone in your life nowadays that will have an extra wireless keyboard. Get this from them because if you are typing on the laptop keyboard that will come through on the internal mic. 2. Audacity. Use Audacity. This allows you to get rid of the background noise that happens in all internal mics. Just make sure to leave a couple seconds at the beginning of the recording to be able to grab a background noise sample. There are tutorials on this. If you are scared of viruses you can grab the portable version. 3. Audacity also helps with bad mics that are still better than internal mics. However, improving audio gets a lot more in depth with the tools and could be risky. You will need to practice and watch a lot more in depth tutorials.
Regardless of RU-vid, it is most certainly toxic to create content for the purpose of profit maximisation and attention instead of deep, complex and relevant issues that improve society.
"It's taken me almost a decade to get to where I am" & "1,500 videos plus" is the most important advise I took from this video. I've been posting since October 16th 2019 and I only have 140 videos up with 51 Subs and it 's difficult to be PATIENT lol
And what I learned from my experience is no matter how many mistakes you make just NEVER GIVE UP. No matter how much inconsistent I get I never gave up even after an accident and hospitalization for 4 months I started making content again and so my channel is growing slowly but steadily while many of my fellow youtubers who did not work on their content creation, title, thumbnail etc have their channels dead now. So never give up and keep on fighting with your mistakes and challenges.
Wooww!! That’s amazing to hear!! I’m jotting down notes and also reevaluating our channel as we go and learn more about youtube do’s/dont’s. As a new YTuber, still got a lot to learn. Thanks VidIQ!!
It is difficult to make good content, but if you improve the quality each time you upload something, and with a continous work, i think you can make a good channel. There isnt a "Communist RU-vid". Each one of us have to make an effort.
Been going through youtube since 2016 but started for real this year/2019. And now when ive used my Photoshop and premiere pro for like 3 or 5 months and now my wires are starting to connect a bit, at least for me
Thank You VidiQ, I have been following your tips and using your tools. Now in first 3 months' periods I have 315 subscribers. How do you think my growth rate is. Is it too slow?
It’s refreshing to hear someone speak the truth without sugar coating it. Some of the things he says, especially when starting out with a RU-vid channel, can be a slap in the face, but that’s okay. People need to wake up to the fact that, as it is with many things, there are no shortcuts. Make quality content and do the work. But that’s not the only thing what makes a succesfull channel. Knowing how to interpret the analytics, being up to speed with what the demand is, what is hot and what is not, connecting with your audience, your editing skills, etc. You basically have to be an allround creator and can still have a hard time growing your channel, because by which guidelines exactly does the RU-vid algorithm favor your video’s? Of course there will always be a kid who uploads one of the dumbest video’s ever and somehow it goes viral, giving them a start of a successful RU-vid career (or not). So, although you also need a bit of luck (because of the many variables), don’t rely on getting lucky, because for most of us, that day will not come. Learn, get experienced, work hard and keeping up with the lastest will at least give you chance of being a success on RU-vid.
I know this is an old video, but I really enjoyed it. I needed to hear the part about making mistakes. I already have a successful (six figure revenue) website and I'm trying to move into RU-vid from there, but I'm forgetting that when I started the website I made a ton of mistakes, and I need to do that in RU-vid as well. Thanks mate!
For me, it's so hard to be natural just because I feel like I'm boring and I have to be more extra than I already am on a day to day basis because I'm yelling at my computer lol
I've now reached 4k hours watched, I have over 300 subscribers with over 300 videos growing at a nice steady rate, but I am aware that there is alot of competition out there especially for the service I do. its a sing along channel and I've just moved into karaoke also. But I'm patient and don't earn money from the channel but I have a year under my belt and its grown into a passion.
So informative! Man I love you guy’s!!! This is the one and only channel for anyone seeking answers on becoming a RU-vid success. For all new creatures we just need to stay consistent do our research and learn from our mistakes. I love you guys and happy trails to a successful RU-vid channel ❤️
16:24 I always thought that was the case. You did a channel review on my channel twice and always you came out with the same advice. Shame really as being a musician it is difficult. I am growing slowly but Rome was not built in a day. So don't worry about not being able to advise on a music channels the rest of the advise you give is invaluable to growth for any channel and we can all take something from what you say.
I'm glad I have a background in guitar and recording so I know how all the audio things work already, compressors, noise gates, noise suppression, eq, reverb, etc
My advice to anyone trying to do RU-vid is that you must be passionate about what you do and then back that up with research on how best to get that across to your intended audience:)
Dude, on phone I can’t read the questions on the screen. The text is too small. Please repeat the question. I don’t understand what you’re replying to.
RyRobio the nano how do you like it so far? I’ve been thinking about buying it , my sound quality is trash and I know for a fact it’s hindering my channel.
Phizzem Gaming lets just incredible would be an understatement. The audio from it compared to my iPhone is on a different level and is completely worth every penny spent on the nano. If you use it with your phone make sure you have the adapter to connect it though
RyRobio ok awesome that’s good to know because nobody said anything about an adapter when I spoke with a best buy associate 🤣 I’m still weighing my options but I for sure need to buy a microphone immediately lol
Phizzem Gaming the Nano is about $100 range, but I also use my clip on mic that I got from amazon which works just as fine for about $15-$30 depending on which kind you get 😲 Has great audio quality as well
Hey, I make content and I sort of have double themed. I do Graphic design and video games, I usually get between 30-100 views of the topic isn't trending. I use the RU-vid SEO. I have succeeded sometimes using it but not every single time. Is there a way to improve that?
I've been around the block a couple times and made every mistake I think you can make, but I also had some successes. I was near 50k, and due to life issues, had to take a year off to be an on the road truck driver (its a long story), and now gaining any traction is a miserable, ego draining, heart wrenching process and I just wonder if I'm just spinning my wheels. Would it be easier to start over from scratch with what I know now and play by the rules, or hope that the community I've grown, and my knowledge and skills are enough? ...This is why I drink
12:00 I have this problem talking to a camera so I have been voicing over my videos now and it is easier for me to complete my videos and audio sound way better
Love this ❤️ it's kinda annoying when people just start off smoothly without even making embarrassing videos but that's the beauty about RU-vid 😂 it's like when kids these days don't go through a puberty phase
Great advice about having some videos up your sleep to use if you are too busy. I was wondering if I should do some when I was on holidays or take a break. This is a better idea.
My first video had the most mistakes and the biggest two of them were trying to explain visual art that doesn’t need to be explained in a video game and two, trying to replicate another RU-vidr. I’ve now developed my own style and it has outperformed every video that I made prior.
60% watch time is great - google search statistics on average channel watch times instead of recommended watch times for your channel. The google search results say most channels average around 30-40% from memory and im lucky to get that in my niche. I get excited if i get a 40% average on a video so sounds like your doing great - and for views, i just passed the 20 upload milestone and 20k views, and my channel is only starting to get 2-8 views and hour now. The more videos i release, and the better i get my SEO, the more my channel is growing
I watched lots of video tips for a new youtuber like me but your words gave impact to me...I asked myself before Me and my Mom decided to make a channel. I told my Mom, Yes I want to have a you tube channel in order for me to help other children like me. We need to have GOOD purpose like helping people especially kids.
Solid video, I've seen plenty of tips/trips kind of videos, but several of things were callouts I haven't heard before, but are semi-obvious. i.e. Listening to the wrong people or Off-topic Content.
I’ve been doing RU-vid for almost 3 years, got 100+ videos, almost 700 subscribers but I’m not giving up! I’ve made a few of these mistakes but it’s okay because you have to learn from your mistakes to be better on RU-vid. When I first started all I wanted was to make money right away but I really enjoy making my videos even if I only get 20 or so views. Just be patient and passionate about your content/videos and you will get there one day. Success doesn’t happen overnight
My man, I have been researching my YT channel topic for months, working on my craft to get it camera ready, and today I am launching my channel. I fully plan on being that one million sub channel lol we will see!
Consistency is something that I wonder about how to improve. I've got an animated avatar that requires plenty of editing, so I'm not as effective as I could potentially be, yet I'm not sure how to make my process faster without sacrificing quality and/or creativity.
Thank you! I’m a NewbieTubie (29 days). I just deleted a short video this morning. Shoot! Okay. Thank you so much. I’ll no longer delete, but make it private. I really like the pace of your video, your patience with us new YouTubies, and your kindness. Lots to Learn, but having fun!
I’m new and a small Chanel. Hearing you talk about talking to the camera. That is the hardest thing to start in my opinion. I do my videos outdoors in public and talking to a camera in public made me feel so stupid and uncomfortable. And was hard to talk with confidence off the start really got quit and shy which dose not work good on the video
Regarding the 'I deserve more' idea, I've had similar thoughts, but take them in a different direction. I do genuinely believe that this channel has enormous potential, as no channel really puts together the elements I do: highly cinematic outdoors adventure and a focus on wildlife and wildlife biology. Growth will take time, but I have no doubt that it will accelerate eventually (partly in response to some coming collaborations). So I don't really get too frustrated by it, as I have no doubt that my thoughts on where the channel 'should be' will eventually match where the channel is. Until then (and beyond!), enjoying the journey. :)
Ive been listening to you since i started my channel in feb, it all finally started to come together a few months ago and I went from 200 subs to currently 988 so fingers crossed this weekend it's 1000 subs! Already hit the watchtime btw, just about, and thank you so much for all your great information over the months it's really helped me stay motivated and is actually now working, your a great guy man spreading this help 😎
Not gonna lie, this is extremely helpful. I used to frequently make these simple mistakes, namely my audio quality and inconsistency, I always go at it 100% leaving me with nothing the following week. Thank you for the helpful advice.
At work, on RU-vid, & pretty much every where else in life "mistakes" are made, I do my best tor remember a quote from Bob Ross. " There are no mistakes... only happy accidents." If we learn from these happy accidents & move forward doing our best, that is where we acquire knowledge & become better than we once were! Thanks for the reminder for how far I've come, Rob! I've learned so much from VidIQ in the 6 months I've been on RU-vid & used what I've learned to grow. My growth is not just for my channel, but in my art & as a human with a message as well. Perfection doesn't exist so just do your best with what you have! ✌🏻💜😁 Tish
For audio, get a large diaphragm microphone such as a Rode NT1 and a channel strip with preamp compression. These two will make all the diference, the problem will then be how to connect it directly to a camera but I'm sure there are some adapters
I started my channel talking about my life in South Korea, but made a meme video for fun and it took off..so I morphed into a comedy channel and I really enjoy doing it...who knew! Lol
