Harry is always the best at explaining these things without a biased and one-dimensional stereotypical filter of these types. The network theory is a very effective tool to utilize within the meta-theory; since it's all dependent on the angle you're looking at. We're limiting ourselves to one facet, when there's something more.

Looking more and more like a lumberjack Jesus with every video. Love the content as always Harry. Also, for a long time people told me I was crazy for saying the INTP-ISTJ-INFJ mistype triangle was very real. I’m glad to see many popular voices in the community bringing this up now.

I can picture INTP and INFJ mistyping as each other, but I can't imagine ISTJ and INFJ mistyping as each other. They might be able to tap into each other's functions a bit but I don't see any mistypings happening.

@@Forty2de when you look at extreme “academics” like Noam Chomsky, or Robert Sapolsky, and even historic INFJs who seemingly didn’t practice empathy like Hitler or Osama Bin Laden, it’s easier to see.

My apologies I’m just now seeing your reply! Yeah that’s fair, I think a self type for an informed enthusiast is less frequent. But I take someone like Noam Chomsky for example whose type is often debated between INFJ/ISTJ/INTP

I absolutely LOVE the idea of having unique icons/symbols for each of the 16 types. The two in the thumbnail are beautiful. If you could make the icon image files (SVGs?) available, I'd love to use them - do you intend on making them available if you have all 16?

I think I'm an INTP whereby my family (who are familiar with MBTI but make the classic mistake of typing by letters) typed me as an ISTJ. ISTJ made sense until I looked at the functions. For example because I'm extremely introverted function dominated, making me heavily favour Si over Ne. Therefore if you type by letters, it's very easy to mistype me as an "S". I do heavily use Ti way more than Te. I prefer to analyse and know things, way more so than actually getting things done. I'm always procrastinsting. This comment was written at 1am and I still haven't prepared for tomorrow. I also relate a lot more to Fe than Fi. Mostly I emotion based on emotional contagion rather than anything else. And it's often an unconscious process that I'm unaware of. That all lines up nicely with INTP. However, that being said, I do think I have an ISTJ-like side. I'm also a diagnosed Autistic. There are some moral convictions / principles I feel VERY strongly. E.g. a strong sense of justice / fairness. And if I feel anything is violating such principles I go into Fi / Te mode. In this state of mind my usual Ti analytical brain goes completely out the window where I'm doing Te based actions (based on the Fi principles) without thinking of the consequences. Fe also goes out the window in such a state of mind. Another thing that triggers that state of mind is the idea of admitting defeat. This drives some extreme Te based persistence because my my mind cannot simply let go and accept failure. This last paragraph is something my family often observe which I belisve is what leads them to mistype me as a "J". However INTP makes more sense as my overall type because I believe Ti / Fe is my default state. The Fi / Te only comes out when I'm feeling strong emotions. And I don't believe I've ever used Fi convergently. My moral principles are static, unwavering and rigid. Instead it's my logical frameworks that are more fluid and dynamic.

I guess i resonate with you in this. I tend to have Ni and Te active. But again, Ti and Fe have been my default place all the time.

Hello Harry, I know this is a little off topic from the video, but a while ago you typed me as a more ambiverted INTP through your service and I was just wondering if you could offer a quick remark at what would differentiate an ambiverted INTP from an ambiverted ENTJ since those two are the types I've been wavering between and need a little more to push me one way or the other.
@CognitivePersonality
@CognitivePersonality 6 месяцев назад
This would be more about the gateways - ambiverted INTP would have a more sensitive nervous system to social disharmony and less able to Fi-filter. They'd be less comfortable imposing their will upon others. Ambiverted ENTJ would feel less concerned with other people behaving to a consistent standard than the INTP. They'd be more empirical and have an easier time motivating themselves in the absence of genuine interest.

yes, one thing that i know for sure about myself is FeNe pairing instead of TeNe. i feel like i always feel ackward as heck around other people, even though i have been practiced my social skills a lot and i felt more skilled to handle people now, it always felt that way. the other factors seems to be interfering one another since my personal state is not this stable.

Hey harry, after listening to your explanation, i consistently now think maybe i am an istj😂. genuine question though, can strong ti and ne subsitute fi somehow? as a child, i always had bland opinions on people, like this person is cool, this person is not cool, hes dumb, shes smart blah blah. But occasionally id be concerned if someone is severly illogical intheir choices and id think deeper. Now, however, i am able to deciesively figure someone out with ease and is definetly more accurate and specific in judging peoplefor their actions. so is it a possibility i simply learned with my ne and ti to copy the effect of fi?

Harry can you make a vid describing the cognitive networks for INTJs vs ISTJs? I notice those two get mistyped quite a lot too. The idea of cognitive networks is indeed unqiue but it rather needs to be streamlined. When do such changes occur? We know that they occur but when? There must be other variables describing what makes a type to collapse towards a certain expression. But based on your expression it would seem that all combinations are possible and so it is up to the agency of a type to decide what combination is should collapse into. So in that sense then there must be something like conscious agency and there isn't just a mechanistic arbitrary use of cognitive functions? How does a type would model his own employment of a given combination? You said that cognition acts at a faster oscillation than the conscious. So would those proceses be automated based on a diverse range of environmental or situational factors or would a type have a conscious choice to collapse into them? If the conscious runs slower than cognition and it is automated. Would then cognition be a byproduct of the unconscious? So would then those combinations themselves be an emyployment of the unconscious expressions? If that is so then is type itself unconscious or there's something more besides it? If there is what makes it conscious in the first place?
@CognitivePersonality
@CognitivePersonality 6 месяцев назад
Lots of questions here but an overarching response would be that both cases are true - cognition would be constantly shifting, but there will be enduring preferences across situations also. So some ISTJs would have a more ensuring TiSi preference than others whom might be more FiNi.

This is interesting. Nice video! I have many ideas about the types I sometimes find hard to tell apart. One that comes to mind lately is (as wild as it sounds) ESTJ vs ISFJ. would you be willing to talk about the overlap between mutliple personality theory and cognitive functions? Because, I could be totally off here, but to me there's almost an odd degree of parallels between the two; for instance interpersonal might most align with Fe, intrapersonal is Fi, bodily-kinesthetic would be Se, etc.

My senses (Si dom) vs my thoughts (Ti dom)- if you don't do anything are you focused on what you see and hear or do you hear your thoughts in your head that you don't really notice all the visuals and sounds?

Can you talk more about how first and second function interacts in a person? I know most systems on the internet does exactly that and your approach covers much more ground but I want to hear about how si-te being together differs from ne-ti or how that differs to ni-fe etc etc. Surely someones "best" extroverted and introverted functions work together, or else all other systems would be incredibly wrong.
@CognitivePersonality
@CognitivePersonality 6 месяцев назад
So TiSi FeNe would be Ti Ne in MBTI, as they are the most overt focal points of primary cognition. So in terms of identifiability Ti Ne show up as the most clear emphasis of INTP cognition, as they represent the bottom line. I wouldn't say they're best but they are the most compulsive and robust elements in the primary cognitive map.
@peacewalker4058

@@CognitivePersonality I watched your videos on ENTP and ENFPs so I could understand how me and my friend differs, Ne-Fe and Ne-Te and how the combination of those two result in a persons cognition is seldom talked about in typing circles, those videos are great at grounding and further explaining these types in my opinion. But while explaining the unexplained you leave out their usual lens-codec relationship, their dominant and auxiliary functions. I feel like i use Ne with Ti all the time when I learn stuff or consume media or do art, although your description of convergent Ne-Fe helped me understand myself I feel like there's an unexplored part in your system, either that or I'm missing something. Thats why i meant by ne-ti, si-te etc etc.
@CognitivePersonality
@CognitivePersonality 6 месяцев назад
@@peacewalker4058 Ne-Ti is not a pairing, it is an axis between two unrelated elements. The relationship is indirect as a result. Fe is the auxiliary to the dominant and Ti the auxiliary to the oppositional; Ti cannot be auxiliary to Ne as it is opposing in attitude (+ Vs -). It's important to talk about Ti Vs Te in that context but be wary of describing Ne and Ti as working together in CPT. In CPT Ne is only an element, and a pairing such as NeFe is a true cognitive function. So NeFe+ and SiTi-

@@CognitivePersonality at some point in history, Europe saw a new type of fighting on the battlefield called pike & shot. There were two rows of soldiers, one group held really long spears to counter cavalry charges and other enemy forces which also wielded really long spears. The other group of soldiers used primitive guns that took a long time to load and shoot. Even though they were unrelated (someone with a spear on hand wouldn't help reload the guns for ex.) they still fought shoulder to shoulder as a single unit. As one but not "together" Does the indirectness you speak of can be likened to this? Or am i helping to propagate the Ne-dom stereotype? Hahahah

Harry, how do you differ J from P? When the ISTJ is a judge, musn't he lead with a judging function? So the correct pairing should be Ti Se. And the INTP as a perceiver should have Ni Te, so he leads with a perceiving function.
@writerducky2589
@writerducky2589 3 месяца назад
The J and P refers to whether a person's first extroverted function is a judging function or a perceiving function, but it does not have to be the first function in the stack. Ex. ISTP - Ti-Se-Ni-Fe Se is a perceiving function and second in the stack, BUT it's the first one to be extroverted, hence the P. Istj - Si-Te-Fi-Ne Te is a judging function and second in the stack, BUT the first to be extroverted, hence the J. ESTP - Se-Ti-Fe-Ni Se is here their first function AND first to be extroverted, hence the type is a P. ESTJ - Te-Si-Ne-Fi Te is here the first function AND first to be extroverted, hence the type is a J. I know it's confusing, especially at first, but hope this helps.
@RainbowRoadCrashTest
@RainbowRoadCrashTest 2 месяца назад
@@writerducky2589That's MBTI. In CPT, this time IPs are the J-types (codec types), and IJs are the P types (lens types). It doesn't have to be P vs J in a behavioral sense like keeping things organized and having your place clean and organized (solely the reason probably why so many ENTJs mistype as ENTPs). No this time the difference IPs want things to have cohesive clarity (whether it's from their Ti or Fi map), while IJs don't mind a bit of ambiguity and uncertainty, more drawn towards the conceptual or perceptual side surrounding their internal world instead. This to me sounds like a J vs P dichotomy now does it? IPs are a bit more conscientious with their internal world than IJs are by contrast.
