Thanks for this, my rear main seal was leaking on my M176, and after finding your video I had the dealership look at the things you mentioned and managed to catch a few items early and get them fixed before it got bad. Appreciate it!
I would highly recommend replacing the plastic intake manifold. Weistec has aluminum replacements. So I’m looking at the Aston Martin vantage that has the m177 or a s63 amg. So I want to get an idea on what to take care of before doing full engine rebuid. Doing forged piston, rods, aluminum intake manifold. Upgraded turbo kit and down pipes. But want to replace all seals and main failure points first while engine is out
Very good topic.🎉 Is the V12 Bi-turbo any better or does it have the same issues? I'm thinking about purchasing the SL 65 AMG black series as a collector.
Loving your channel Mike, but please start mentioning the mileage of the vehicles that you’re working on when it pertains to specific issues/services that you’re performing, so that viewers can get a better idea of when these maintenance items are due.
The M112/M113 and even the M113K are all PROVEN 500,000+ mile engines. The M113k needs to have it's supercharger maintained sure, but they are all just so overbuilt. You can't kill them. When I got my first CLK 55 AMG with it's M113 under the hood, it blew my mind how simple it actually was. The Valve Cover breather boxes need resealed every now and again but that's really it. Having two-spark plugs per cylinder and adding a ton of compression is like magic.
@@ftffighter correct, 135K miles on my E55 and zero mechanical issues other than airmatic pump and supercharger bearing. i never beat on it from a dig, but have run it 130-140mph many times..
A video outlining preemptive fixes or upgrades to address the issues (if any) would be welcomed from those of us who want to keep these cars longer term
Another apparently common problem: camshaft adjusters and camshaft position sensors leaking oil through the electrical connectors. Oil seeps through the wiring harness over time eventually getting to the computer etc. Just checked my camshaft position sensor connector (50k miles) and there's a little puddle of oil in it and oil on the connector.
Funny. You forgot the Cylinder 4 misfiring. I myself had that problem twice (under 60k km) and i know 2 other drivers with m177 and m178 that had that same problem. Caused by temperature if you actually use the power (not even on the tracK) that it has. For me it was ignition coil and injector at that cylinder. For both of my friends it was cylinder 4. So apparently cylinder 8 (or the stuff above) is running cooler because it does not have an ECU on top ;) Also mention how people will notice these issues before they happen or what they could do to prevent that.
Thank you for this valuable video. I have a question for you. I want to buy a Mercedes AMG GT 63, model 2022, with an M177 engine. Do you advise me to buy it or not? Thank you in advance.
My 2017 (at 51,000 KM) recently started belt squeaking during startups, the squeak gets softer and eventually stops after around 10mins of idling or temps reach around 40-60celcius. Any helpers please. There is also a tiny bit of tick tick, searched it online and apparently that is usually from the purgers and is normal mechanically. Thanks!
Misfires bruh, misfires .. You forgot to mention those .. Tons of em bugged with this problem. Bad coils, bad sparks, very common issue and and those coilpacks are often on weeks long backorder.
Have you dealt with P06DA00 - Engine oil pump control valve issues on these engines? Any advice you can give? The dealer wants 7k+ in labor to replace this $100 part
@@huy8105 it’s a. Issue on most of the engines but it can be labor intensive because the oil pan has to be removed, typically it’s the jumper harness that goes bad
@@603benztech got it and thanks for the quick reply! 🙏 I got the same conclusion that it's the harness that typically goes bad from reading the forums. From my understanding, this part reduces oil pressure to the engine at lower RPMs so there's no risk to engine lubrication when it's not working since the oil pressure will just be standard at all times? I'm just wondering if it's still safe to drive for now until I can decide if I want to eat the 7k repair bill(which seems unusually high even for the work that needs to be done)
Great video, I'm having the issue of oil on one spark plug and coil pack! Does this engine have a Mercedes Spark Plug Tube Seal inside the valve cover? There are no leaks on the ground or in any of the other spark plugs or coils @603benztech
Hello sir! Great video, do you know what the labor time is a T-Stat on an m177? Its a 2020 c63. Im getting mixed numbers all over the place. Thank you!
Having spent the last few weekends under the hood of an M278, seeing this video has made me loose faith in Mercedes altogether. How did they manage to make it have MORE hoses, wires and sensors AND be harder to work on?
Had the intake Manifold crack on my X 253 Glc 63s 2019 completely stock. Has nothing to do with a tune. The reason why it cracks is because It's made of plastic and can't handle the heat soak. This is the same with the C 63s, glc 63s, e 63s, and the GT 63s. They have a plastic intake manifold. Should have been billet aluminum.
Warranty unfortunately won’t pay you to drop it. Or will it🤔This is my 3rd time within 3 months opening/ resealing valve covers replacing camshafts, sprockets, even a cylinder head all on the same lemon. Needless to say I’ve almost quit so many times because of this engine alone
I've worked on Mercedes-Benz vehicles for 23 years. I worked at the dealer from 2001-2010. These newer V8s are junk compared to m119/m113/m273. No more 63 anything for me. Even the m113k is starting to show it's age with the o-rings disintegrating behind the front timing cover causing oil and coolant to mix and o-rings failing down by the oil pump causing starvation. 20+ hours for motor mounts? Reminds me of the w220 S65 labor times. Plastic Intake manifolds is giving off bmw vibes. I do not recommend any mercedes newer than 2011.
♠️GOOD INFO! TELL US THE TYPICAL MILEAGE TO EXPECT THESE REPAIRS AT.. and if it’s from normal , lack of use for garage queens, or if it’s from extreme abuse .
@@603benztechgreat information! I assume it’s normal to get extremely hot on a summer day in Florida? I don’t drive it too hard but the engine remains hot for a while…
Laughing at your last statement.. "if I was going to buy a car, it will have this engine here" lololol Yea bud, go look at the F140 engine please, greatest engine in the world.
I have big problem with this engine with timing,3th time is engine out covers down, new 4x camadjusters,2x timing chain,2x tensioner,1x camshaft bank 2 exhaust, today again start new oil filter 2x, and again mistake on bank 2 intake and exhaust camshaft, everything set up on timing 40 and on 53 plates are excelent, timing was set up by original tools, iam doing all mercedes-benz motors 13,5 years and i never had mistake like this after repairing the engine, when somebody know please hepl
