Locknuts are used to prevent bolts and screws from vibrating loose, and there are many kinds of locknuts out there. In this video, we discuss the most common types of locknuts in the fastener world.

Thanks for posting. I ordered something that called for a certain nut and wanted to make sure I knew what I was talking about before trying to resolve the problem of only being given hex nuts.

I know this is an old video, but I can't find any information about loss of tension strength using jam nuts vs regular height hex. Can't find information for locking and non-locking jam nuts. Either. Help please!

Wonderful starter video! For some of these, It'd be helpful if after installing the nut, you remove it to show the indentations or whatever effects left behind due to installing the nut. Again thanks for making this helpful informative video!

How do you measure it? Do you start with the diameter of the hole or the OD of the nut.

Stover & two-way - are they reusable?

We wouldn't advise it, but if you can remove the nut you can reuse it. Removing lock nuts may weaken their ability to lock, however. So when re-applying the lock nut make sure it's hold on the bolt is secure.

@@AlbanyCountyFasteners Thank you. That's what I figured. As a general rule, I always recommend new fasteners anyway. If torqued properly, they have been stretched and may not hold as well.

I've seen another kind of deez nuts. A nut that has a screw on the side, so you tighten the nut against the threads of the bolt. What is that called?
