Commonly Forgotten Items for College! 

I use the Jenna Marble rule with dryers; if it gets ruined in the dryer, it doesn't belong in my closet.

my college has an awesome laundry room. The appliances are locked until you put in your code/swipe your ID and there is a cell phone app that tells you when your clothes are done and what washers/dryers are empty!

I was an RA for a year in college, and the circuits got overloaded a lot! At least at my school. Especially when two roommates had curling and flat irons plugged in warming up while they were drying their hair.

Instead of a drying rack (because it takes up a lot of space in a tiny dorm room!) I like to use an over the door hanger rod type thing. I got one from Bed Bath & Beyond. It just goes over the door of your closet and you can put your wet clothes on hangers to dry and it takes up a lot less space!!

I just came across this video and the thing about the external hard drive (and flash drives) is so true, I lost all my notes and assignments a week before exams from my laptop hard drive crashing and I failed a bunch of exams. Not good. And...isn't pepper spray illegal for people to just carry around?

Yes, exactly - it got cleaned a few times a week by the accommodation staff. It worked out as exactly the same as one shower between a family of four being cleaned twice a week.

Who's gonna forget flip flops?

The cool thing about the campus I will be living on is that they have a website that monitors what washers and dryers are free and you can even get a text when your laundry is done.

I'm in my second year of college and this is seriously helpful things to have. I don't know why more people haven't watched this yet lol

Good Idea for a video! Don't forget scissors those come in handy. also the tiny staplers, people are always looking for a stapler in class, and there's not always one there!

Someone else said this also. Before you buy pepper spray check your countries laws. Its illegal here in Canada.

FYI computer crashing doesn't mean you lost everything. your hard-drive is most likely still in good shape even on a laptop and can be removed quite easily. you need to know this because depending on what you do with your broken computer someone could get access to all your information very easily which happens ALL the time. but it is smart to backup your work on an external hard-drive

It's nice to know that someone else thinks about bringing medicine to college! I did last year (sophomore year) and it was the best thing ever. I had allergy pills, ibuprofen, bandaids, alka seltzer...you name it, I had it! And every so often, girls from my floor would come to me because they knew I had what they needed!

I'm going to college next year but I'm getting the dorm that's on my own, it's the exact same price as it would be to have a room mate .. except you get a bigger bed:) Where I'm going the school is safe, but a town 30 minutes from me a girl I went to high school with there's been attempted kidnaps, a guy seen with a gun, guys trying to pick up girls & schools only been back for like 2 weeks.. so the pepper spray thing would be a good idea depending on your school!

Fair warning: be careful with pepper spray. It can backfire on you easily and you will get sprayed just like the bad guy.

its just a pet peeve of mine but the one thing is when people put a space before putuation. Exactly Like This !

I recommend amazon, i love that place. Usually the cheapest place to find one. (best external hard drive would be a ssd not a hdd, and i would get an aluminum case, if you get a hdd, with a fan if you plan to use it for periods of times (like streaming movies from it)) I think im just going to get a 64 gb flash drive.... (its a ssd PLUS!) and usually you can find one pretty cheap, most people wont need one bigger than 64gb(for important stuff, not a butt load of music or videos)

Not all rooms are like that...It also depends what year you are in. You might have to share bathroom if you're a freshman, but later on you can switch dorms.

Great advice! :] I'm quite a pack rat, so I usually bring MORE than I need, but I think all of the items you suggested are basically essentials!

Don't take ibuprofen when you have a hangover!! In fact, don't take any generic painkiller to cure a hangover - ibuprofen burdens the intestines, paracetamol puts strain on your liver and kidneys, and aspirin won't be nice to your stomach! If you have a headache, drink water: the headache is a symptom of dehydration. If you must take a painkiller, avoid paracetamol because your liver and kidneys still need to break down and filter out the toxins left in your body (mainly ethanol and ethanol).

I never thought of bringing pepper spray, but it is always good to be safe. And do you carry it with you everywhere you go? Also, it was kind of funny I think when you said that maybe you want to teach your roommate a lesson by spraying it in her face, LOL! Thanks for the video, it was very helpful!

I think the tools are more geared towards people who are living in an apartment or something. I wouldn't really recommend buying tools if you're living in a dorm, unless you already have a tool kit laying around. Just my opinion though :)

In the UK we don't have roommates and I think Pepper Spray is illegal? idk, no one uses it or talks about it. & I've heard that we're not allowed to nail pictures into the wall, but pictures and blue tack will have to do :)

Wheeled bag for those books. I fell from all the weight one day on the cement, and scraped my face.

I used a hammer my freshman year when some friends wanted to loft their beds and they needed a hammer to pound the connecting pins into the posts.

Honestly college in America seems so horrible! Having to share rooms and showers with others? Wow so little privacy :/. Here in Ireland like 50% of college students have their own room and bathroom to themselves (or an ensuite if you wanna say that).

Earplugs?! Major understatement. You need SHOOTER'S MUFFS. The idiots at my college always played their damn stereos at top volume at 3 in the morning, thumbing their noses at the after-hours rule regarding stereos.

Who forgets their own Tums? I don't even forgot to take my medicine in the morning. Even if you do forget these things, i'm sure there's a store right down the road from the College. Ibuprofen cost like three dollars a bottle. I don't know what a Bench Grinder is, Joel Koehler but I don't want to know. You can get Apple Earpods for nine dollars.A leveler for Twelve dollars. That mesh thing for five.The box thing for like Four dollars. Pepper Spray for like around Ten dollars. A North Face bookbag for Twenty-five dollars.That pocketbook for Thirty dollars. Then of course Laptop which vary from $899 to $5,040.
