Good Christian European men (such as yourself, I assume) are welcome to be apart of and to integrate into our country & culture. As long as one has a clean record, is of Northern, Central, Western, Eastern, and some Southern European descendent, and follows Christian values and morals then one is fully welcome and qualified to become an Aussie. What do you think should replace the US anthem? I don't really know any possible candidates as I'm an Aussie. But I'd be interested to know

Other contenders include "Hail, Columbia" (from the early 1800s, when the USA was trying to copy Britain's mascot of Britannia with our own woman named Columbia, who predated the country now called Colombia), "My Country Tis of Thee" (equally as old, lyrics about freedom and liberty and such to the tune of "God Save The King"), Battle Hymn of The Republic (a deeply Christian patriotic song from the Civil War, still enjoyed by secular people such as myself for its sentiment that Jesus hated the Confederacy and wanted to pulverize slaveholders in a wine press), America the Beautiful (late 1800s iirc, probably the best contender for an alternate anthem as it is mostly about how lovely the land is and what glorious heavenly constructions we can put on it), The Battle Cry of Freedom (also from the Civil War, largely forgotten and no longer used in patriotic ceremonies, similar sentiments to Battle Hymn of The Republic but without involving divine intervention), Yankee Doodle (1700s British song making fun of the Revolution, lyrics rewritten by Revolutionaries to piss off the Brits, is now regarded as a slightly patriotic children's song), "This Land is Your Land" (early 20th century, originally a socialist rallying cry against private property, now capitalistically sanitized and performed by elementary school classes in auditoriums with terrible acoustics), God Bless America (I don't recall when it was written but I do know that it was played ceaselessly after 9-11 and is now regarded cynically as the anthem of jingoistic invasions of oil-rich nations as well as terrible privatized healthcare), "Hail to the Chief" (technically the exclusive anthem of the American President, which would only become the national anthem if some future president overthrew the current system and replaced it with a dictatorship), and I feel like there are other more obscure songs I've failed to mention, but that is about it.

@@casualjoe1264 A very famous US award winning singer / song writer in Bob Seger once sang America the Beautiful as the NA at a World Series Final game. Another song often played is God Bless America. Most of these songs reference "America" whereas they are the NA of The UNITED STATES of America. There are many other nationa in both North and South America that can correctly refer to themselves as Americn.

Not really, considering we had little choice until we ousted "God Save the King / Queen" by popular vote with Advance Australia Fair in the mid 1980's. There have been some mutterings since but only two tunes "Waltzing Matilda" and "I am Australian" have been taken seriously. The tune here sees the words of Jack O'Hagan married with the music of Christina Macpherson's Waltzing Marilda, a song whose words were composed by Aussie legendary writer / poet Andrew "Banjo" Paterson. The latter was sung at home games of the Wallabies much the same as the Kate Smith version of "God Bless America" was sung at Yankees games at their famous stadiums.

My Grandfather left GB for Australia in 1966 - hasn't looked back since 😉.

No doubt you'd realise that Whitlam changed from GSTQ to Advance Australia Fair in 1973 only to see Fraser change it back in 1976. It finally changed back under Hawke in 1984 and has remained since. Voting was by popular choice of the population

I'd just go with Waltzing Matilda. It's lyrics may not be what is expected in an anthem but the Netherlands has a poem for its anthem and Waltzing Matilda is a very Australian song.@@casualjoe1264

@@MRCLXWN03 Not so. The well known words of Waltzing Matilda were composed by "Banjo" Paterson and he and Christina Macpherson set it to the music. The words of this were composed by Jack O'Hagan who also did the Road to Gundagai and Our Don Bradman.
