@@FunSwedish sorry for the late reply, the note was for some who didn't throw their trash properly. It said something along the lines of "if you don't know how to throw your trash your also trash"
As a semi new transplant from the US (been in sweden almost a year now) I received my first note a few weeks ago. My husband had to translate it to me. 🤣🤣 I was totally my fault and well deserved, even though it was an accident . (I mistakenly took a wash day on someone else's time, I had miscounted the days on the schedual board 😭😭) I left an apology note back. Is that a normal/ok thing to do here? Or will it be seen as a sarcastic move? My apology was compleatly sincere. I felt like an idiot. Lol
I had a good laugh, Daniela! These aggressive notes are nothing like the aggressive notes we see where I live. They are almost poetic to my ears. I would definitely return this person’s white slippers, change the tv channel and give him/her two chairs for Christmas 😅
The thing is, when you see an angry note, EVERYONE reads it, and you feel slightly uncomfortable, even if you didn't do anything wrong. You don't like the atmosphere in the house changing and you usually take the author's side, just because you get annoyed at the one disturbing the peace. If the note is ridiculous though, you get annoyed at the author for disturbing the peace. 😂 Regardless, a note is never ignored.
Oh yes, I live on the ground floor of an apartment building in Istanbul and have sole access to the back garden. I've had to leave notes in the entrance hall asking neighbours not to throw their cigarette ends from their balconies into the garden. Just so disrespectful in my opinion particularly since I have to sweep them up.
First time I hear about it. Ohh you Swedes, you can easily become saints. 😅 I really admire you! And once again, great and funny video. 😁 Much love from Greece.
Great video! I live outside of Seattle, WA. I’ve never seen or heard of notes like this. This is hilarious! Let’s just say people here can be more direct and rude.
As someone who lives in an apartment in Seattle, I agree! In fact, I couldn't take the rude behavior in our communal laundry room anymore and I wrote a rude(ish) note! I guess that was my Swedish heritage coming through! For as much as anyone pays attention to the notes, maybe I'll write the next one in Swedish!
Wow this is so interesting and weird. I am Norwegian but despite our similarities this Swedish practice was entirely unknown to me. It actually explains something I could not figure out while living abroad. I knew this girl from Asia who had lived in Sweden. She used to get all the other people sharing apartment with her upset because she left these kinds of angry-notes. We thought it was something they did in the Asian country she was from. But now I am 100% convinced this is a habit she picked up in Sweden. She would always talk about how Sweden was better than everywhere else and could not wait to get back there.
Super interesting that it works in a different way in Norway. That's why you are so famous here for being so nice and friendly. Not passive aggresive at least like we can be 😅 Haha, yeah most have been something she picked up in Sweden.
Har kollat på dina videor nu i ett tag å jag kan säga att dem är ganska roliga, även om jag är född här i Sverige! Så ja även oss själva lär om oss här!
Ahahah the last one reminded me of one from my neighbors in Stockholm too, saying "oh we will have a super nice birthday party, with lots of food" and so on... Well, I was expecting an invitation, but no! The note continued "so, i need some chair, could you borrow?"... 👀😅
Here's a just a mild 'arg lapp' : If you're in need of somebody else's chair ,you say " can I borrow a chair from you? " then the one who's asked might agree, and says "yes I will lend it to you" 🙂 also "Summer in the city" is a song, once a mega-hit by a great band "Loving spoonful" 🎶🎧✌️
In America, I have written an angry note, but it was for someone who parked their car in a public lot in a thoughtless or selfish way. I told them they should invest in some driving lessons. I hope they took my advice.
Nice explanation. But i guess you can understand that some people with different cultural patterns find these a bit irritating because some people could percieve it sneaky and dishonest. Face to face problem solving doesn't necesseraly mean aggression or conflict but a more honest and human way to make peace without any misunderstandings. However I understand the swedish backround of these stuff, I just wanted to share the cons of it. But i really think scandis are really aware of this, that's why hundreds of scandinavian movies are about these misunderstandings because of the "noncommunication". I appreciate the self reflection very much.
They don’t have the ability to use a direct communication=effective communication and that is most likely due to poorly developed social skills.Passive-aggression is widely used here in Sweden and it became a real problem in workplaces.People are currently being encouraged to report it as it causes confusion, anxiety and and affects mental health. As a therapist I can also say that Passive -aggression has nothing to do with culture. It’s a form of a psychological harassment.
@@awona5196 wow you really explain the situation I ran into... I was really annoyed by this passive aggressive method. Instead of avoiding it, they should confront and solve the problem
Lift, not elevator, unless you are aiming your videos at Americans. Where I come from (Ireland) If someone is annoying you by, e.g. continuously blaring music, you would walk out your door and shout in the direction the noise was coming from "DO US ALL A FAVOUR AND TURN THAT SHITE DOWN, WILL YOU?". We are a bit more direct, but note that this is a request and not an order. Failure to comply may result in a warning to the effect of "IF YOU DON'T TURN THAT EFFIN NOISE DOWN NOW, I'LL COME OVER THERE AND STICK THAT STEREO UP YOUR ARSE SIDEWAYS". :)
I believe the last person just meant that if you come to their home for Christmas then you should bring a chair for yourself, because who knows how many lonely people would show up...
When they wrote “när man bor i stan” does “man” mean “you”? You would use it instead of “du”? Like in English we might say “when one lives in a city”. I suppose this is the same thing? Oh, I’ve added husransakan to my list of favourite Swedish words! I love it.
We used to have them, but now we have a facebook group for the residents' association where people write there instead. However, it is not only about things they are annoyed about but also if people need help or want to give away old furniture and the like, as well as general information. Copenhagen
We also use this in the Philippines, but usually for open spaces/public spaces. Our notes tend to be even bigger than those post-its, like we paint it on walls, or create a big tarpaulin, especially for cases like don't urinate in the walls or don't throw trash. We even put certain words like there's a fine and there's a CCTV that sees you hahaha. Tack så mycket för att du delar med dig av den svenska "arga lap"-kulturen!
Ha ha! I love fragrances, I have a collection of over 40 fragrances, full bottles and over 70 samples. But my neighbors don't feel my presence from 100 m away 😅 And the building my apartment is in doesn't have an elevator ☺ Thank you for the video! Your videos help me a lot! 🤗💙💛
Of cause i have written angry notes, i'm a Swede Having two washing machines on at the same time, coming down to the laundry room One machines worth of laundry on the floor, dripping wet and the other machine and the other machine they had filled with about 20 crayons. Like that wasn't enough, they had stolen my laundry basket too
Angry notes are complaints directed towards people you don’t know. You see similar things in newspapers where you can send in critique or praise anonymously.
Could you please type the sentence you said at 9:30 after "What kind of neighbour is this?" I mean the sentence starts with "Vilket" 😬 Tack på förhand ✌🏼
There are common angry notes at Swedish working places as well, many complaining about careless colleagues who do not follow the communal cleaning rules: "Your mother does'nt work here" (meaning: do not expect some one else to do the dishes of your Coffee cup and food box). 😉
Arga lappar används också här i Finland. Vi imiterar svenskarna nästan i allting. Angry notes are used also here in Finland. Vi imitate Swedes almost in everything.
Such a good video! To me, it's so complicated not to be able to face people and tell them what I think about them or different topics. You're so polite, buuuut, that makes me feel also that you're faking all the time, I mean, you still being human, right? haha I hope :)
