Your trip to Lake Como is incomplete without a visit to its Pearl: Bellagio. Bellagio is located halfway between the two southernmost branches of the lake, and is famous worldwide for its beautiful villas overlooking the water.
The park on the hill above the town is private property of The Bellagio Center, owned by the Rockefeller Foundation. The Bellagio Center Residency Program offers academics, artists, thought leaders, policymakers, and practitioners a serene setting conductive to focused, goal-oriented work, and the opportunity to establish new connections with fellow residents from a wide array of backgrounds, disciplines, and geographies.
The Villa Melzi was built between 1808 and 1810 in the neo-classical style. Under the trees in the surrounding park, along the shore and at the intersections of the paths, are Egyptian sculptures and Roman statues which add to the romantic atmosphere of the garden. Lots of exotic trees were planted. Fascinating is the Japanese pond with water lilies, surrounded by Japanese maple trees and cedar trees.
