I really expected more from a test with noise canceling. What about other environments such as a restaurant or an open-plan office? Headphones are worn there at least as much as on airplanes.

Dude, Bose QC45 is the lightest out there and have the broader ear cups. Comfort is the main thing with QC45 followed by ANC performance. Sony has better sound quality

The Sony's sound the most musical, best way I could describe it. The texture of the instruments come out better. Could be also due to the LDAC?

Its not because of LDAC because Iphones dont support LDAC but the sound is still brighter and the Sony has more detail. It is because of the large soundstage the headphones have because of the tuning of the newer drivers and the dual processors

Great review, thank you! The sound clarity of the Bose 45s was crisp, clear and natural, yet still kind of punchy. Not sure why the others two, especially the Apple Airpod Maxs sounded unpleasant - the over-inflated bass and overall muddiness was unexpected. The Bose 45s have just gone on special where I live so will definitely consider them!

you forgot to mention the footprint as a comparing point while making decisions at the end. sony xm4,3,2,1 all folded before xm5. Bose added folding like xm4 to its qc45. It seems sony sold its folding rights to bose qc45 so that bose wont add touch to its qc45.

I just got bose QC45. very good and simple to use. Love the light weight and compact case for travelling. Airpods Max is way too expensive...basically i can't afford anything more than $200. Sony is good too but i have sony all my life and want to try Bose for my first pair.

@@LEPNinja87 They are so good so far. I have been using it everyday for out walking, working out at the gym...everyday use. If you are looking for deep intense base, these might not be the ones, but if you like neutral comfortable sounds...not over powering...these are great

My kiddo has been wearing the Bose every single day to school, gym and pretty much everywhere other than the shower. He doesn't complain about it falling off. Only thing he doesn't do with them is go Running so I can't really comment on that.

Sony sounds the best: clear full of details mids and highs, that create an ambient and airy space, dense, juicy and deep bass. Apple's and Bose's sound is "flat" with overloading (Apple) or not deep enough (Bose) bass. Also ANC is best of Sony again

I've got Bose and can't really complain about base after tweaking with EQ. It's really there and comparable to Sony's that I've tested in the shop - XM4 and XM5

I own both Sony and Bose and I really disagree with the ANC. I feel like Bose QC45's ANC is better than the Sony, not by a whole much but I noticed that the Bose blocks out more noise.

Sony default tuning is really bad. Very muddy bass. Luckily the in app EQ is awesome so you can tweak them to your liking. But after owning both XM4 AND APM, I like the neutral sound of APM more.

@@brunodrakenas9575 I tried the XM4's refurbished from ebay and they were great. I had to return them though because the noise cancelling on the left ear had this really loud shireking noise which hurt really bad. Other than that the sound quality was good and the fit was very snug (ears felt a little cramped and they clamped down pretty hard. I ordered the QC45 refurbs from bose and am waiting on them. I would suggest trying them both at a store near you to see which ones you like more.

I have sony xm5 and bose qc45. love sony sounds and 360 sound is a bonus. However don't like the anc, which disorient me, transparent mode is so so. Sony also gives my ear fatigue after a while. The bose don't have 3d sound but excels in every other category. I don't have air max...too expensive for my taste but sounds wonderful.

From utility point of view, AirPods Max are the best. 1. Putting them in the case or getting it from it takes a few seconds, no need to adjust the length, use case zipper or make any other things, they just slide in/out. 2. You can easily remove the headband and earpads and wash them or replace. Can you wash something from Sony or Bose headphones? 3. No need to wait before headphones will connect, you get them from the case - you are already connected, it happens super fast 4. Aluminium earcups are the best - they don't collect fingerprints or scratches. 5. Weight and the whole construction is just fine to make sure that headphones will not drop when you look down or make some fancy moves :)
