Have you ever compared the build of a vintage MIM precison bass with the new models. Seems like they are cheaping out on the build quality of new basses.
Comparing a Vintage Made in Mexico Bass to a recent MIM Fender precision bass

I had a 1995 Mexican telecaster for years. It was a great guitar. Sometimes I wonder if something was off with the truss rod because it always needed to be adjusted. Other than that, no complaints. I have a Mexican jazz bass with the 1994 neck and a 2004 body and it’s absolutely perfect. No issues. Plays and sounds great and nothing feels cheap or low quality.

I have a 2009 mim p bass. While I like to play it, It comes nowhere near my U.S. fender jazz. The logo on my 2009 p is similar to your later model bass. (More plain logo) Fender claim that this logo is a re-issue of the 1970s design.

I have a MIM 93 Jazz bass. It’s got the nicely finished neck.I played a newer one the other day and was shocked enough to be looking into RU-vid to see if anyone else has mentioned this. The new bass seemed cheap…

Vintage mim P bass have the Serial number on the front? Thinking of getting a second hand one but I was just wondering how old it might be?

Birdseye maple is beautiful but knots disrupt vibrations, so not good. Flamed maple is compression wood, so very prone to react with humidity.

The reason 2002 body's has a better resonance. Tow reasons, it's older and they picked only lumber that had the tonal quality. It was selected, nowadays they take what they have as long you can build a 2-3 piece body. The craftsmanship was better but the QC is better nowadays for the finishing. Second reason, they used to build them and allow a period of drying before and after the first primer coating to make sure it was dry wood almost 1% humidity. Nowadays I believe they are higher in humidity before the first sealing primer coating.

Bought a 2021 MIM Jazzbass - the worst instrument I ever had; setup was a desaster; they just put strings on it an let them go; was not possible to play it out of the box; string hight and intonation - omg; sent it back; bought a 2002 and it's way better

Yes! They should have a little more respect for their customers and do a better job at setting up the instruments. However, there are good You Tube videos to help and guide you on learning how to set up your own instruments. It's easier than you may think.

I owned one Mexican Fender and it was a horrible piece of crap. American Fenders are the only way to go. The Squier classic vibe guitars and basses are leaps and bounds better than Mexican Fenders.

REALLY… I was worried about this. I was wondering if a earlier made mim p bass would be the way to go. Some squier 90s Japan ones may be good. I don’t know what to do.

@@ethanrobinson5536 If you want the mim Fender then go over it with a fine tooth comb and make sure everything lines up properly because sometimes the bridges are misaligned and the frets have lumpy spots and the nut slots aren't cut deep enough and make sure the electronics cavity don't have a handful of sawdust inside like mine had.

You would be so much better off getting a used MIM/Player Series than a new CV50s or 60s Squier. I chewed through those cheap nickel frets within 2 years of playing on my 2008 CV50. It's also got dime size pots, cheaper switch, and pot metal hardware. Phil Mcknight goes over all of this in more depth. Constant BS online of people saying a Classic Vibe is as good as a Fender Standard. Its just not true. Its a great guitar dont get me wrong, but its just not on par with even the MIM line, and to say it is, looks foolish to those who actually know.
