I bought this absolutely MINT HMV 511 Gramophone today for a LOT Of money but as it was perfect and came with 2500 Danceband and other good records i bought ti so i thought i would compare it with the HMV model XIV and here's the video

Great to hear this jaunty tune on two great gramophones. The later model gives a richer tone I think.

Why do you play the Gramophones with the lid up?. I think they always sound better with the lid down as you reduce the needle chatter etc & I think that you get a purer sound.

Very simple - in the early days of this channel people didn't believe i was actually playing the records - they seemed to think the sound came from cds or maybe lps so i always let them see the record playing , it saves having to answer LOTS of questions
