Ever year we shoot loads of bike lights to give you a way to properly compare them. But why do we do this? We go behind the scenes to learn why, talk snacks, beam shape and see the process from behind the lens.

A standardized outlook on the amount Lumens & Beam Patterns that these manufacturers claim is the type of "consumer-focused" content that is more meaningful than the "Commercials" that GCN often post. Thank You for the har work.🙏 P.S. Where, on your website, should I navigate to in order to find this light comparison (I didn't see any direct link in the description)?

I live in the countryside, a MaxxD doesn’t half slow down vehicles coming the opposite way 😀 Especially useful for single track roads.

This is awesome, and understand the work it takes, as i did something similar for offroad use. Went through most of the data base and it reinforces my view of 90% of bike lights on the market are trash... Round beam on street = blinding oncomming...needs cutoff ir atleast a decent dipped beam. Round beam on the singletrack/wood = shitty light...new peripheral lighting, tunner vision/black matter... fatigues eyes quicker. Test some lights like Infun GT200 Outbound lighting Detour Novsite 1600

Nitecore BR25 in front and MagicShine SeeMee300 and an Elops on the rear. Both main are lighting under the bike too.

I love my raveman pr1600, so many other factors come into play than just brightness (it’s still very bright) beam pattern, ease of use, battery life etc and honestly the raveman does it all. My only gripe is after 2 years the charge life is half hour less now.

Wish we had bike light standards in the UK similar to the german one. Ideally it should be an EU law to cover the whole of EU which wold then trickle out over here. Would make em so much cheaper if the cheap chinese factories decided to switch to them for the EU market.

I mostly use the Reelight CIO+ on my commuter bike. However, for early morning and night riding I also use the NireRider Lumina Dual 1800 on flash or its lowest setting. I like having the option of 1800 lumens…even though I have never used it at that setting while on the bike.

I too have the Lumina 1800. I think that it happens to be a good light for off road riding. All of my night riding is on the road, in an urban setting. At this point after long research, I likely will be upgrading to the "Detour" by Outbound Lighting. The Detour has side by side cutoff beams, that directs the light to the roadway, without the light spill and glare that can blind oncoming traffic.

I ride road bikes, mostly nights from spring through summer to fall. I will NEVER buy another NiteRider again.

@@nycticorax5653 I suggest the Detour by Outbound Lighting.

@@ilovephotography1254 Another problem I have noticed in a group ride is one rider has eyesight problems, similar to night blindness. They ride in the rear to follow and use an extremely bright light which causes a shadow to be cast of the rider in front of them. Makes it hard to see road hazards if you are that rider and causes cars to hit their high beams. Next spring I will try the "Detour", it sounds like a good light and maybe buy a present for the bright light rider.😊

@@nycticorax5653 FYI, Outbound Lighting has a once a year Black Friday Sale event. If interested, go to their website and scroll down to the bottom of the page. Hit the discount codes tab. From there it is explained that they have only a once a year Black Friday Sale and ask for you to leave a email address. They will let you know when it is sale time. If you're worried about spam, don't. I left my contact info and have't received any emails. BTW I have no association with Outbound Lighting.

I really, really wish bike light manufacturers would put more effort into making their devices easier to use. This whole nonsense of having a single button and LED indicator which have multiple purposes yields one of the least intuitive machine interfaces available - it’s almost like the manufactures seek to make use of their products as obtuse as possible. It would be great if usability to be assessed during reviews - not just whether you can operate that single button wearing gloves. This isn’t a criticism of any particular brand, it’s a pox on all their houses. Many bike lights are quite expensive, so is it unreasonable to have three marked switches - one for on/off, another for brightness and a third which selects mode (flash/constant)? Is it asking too much for when the light is switched on it returns to the last used brightness and mode rather than having to repeat a morse code of button presses every time you switch it on?

You should include the info whether this particular bike light can be used while charging using a powerbank. If youre riding for the whole night, a single charge wont last long especially on those 800+ lumens bike lights. To me, this is the most important info along side runnin g time of the light.

Interesting that the Outbound Lighting has been removed from the comparison list now along with my comment about how crap it was a few days ago. What's the reason behind that I wonder?
