A good comparison of cost of living between countries is to compare income levels as well. e.g., what percentage of your hourly minimum wage is the cost of the fish and chips. 2. Bank Charges- I remember when I first opened my bank account in the UK, I was surprised when I was told there was no charge on the account. My first question was: how did they make money then? They said they make it off mortgages and lending money out. And surprise surprise, all these banks are profitable. Canada and the US are very much capitalist minded and extremely profit driven, the UK, not so much. 3. On cars and houses: I wasn’t expecting anything less. Everything is small in the UK lol 4.
