Sorry for not uploading for a while, but since my father's death, I have been very busy.
However, I have now inherited thousands of feet of Super-8 sound film that I need to transfer, and have been experimenting with various ways to do this, so I have acquired a couple of more telecines. As my Dad always told me, "If you buy cheap, you buy twice."
Just for anyone who may be curious, I have decided to compare four transfer methods of the same Super-8 film that I have made. No sound, because it is silent, but you might want to decide for yourself if you are looking to transfer film. I want be be light on comments, so you can make up your own mind.
The Focuskye Multi-plex Telecine is what I have used mostly on this channel.
The Wolverine... it is cheap, but takes a long time to transfer. Uhm..
I recently acquired the Zoli film scanner, which I am totally satisfied with, but haven't quite got the transfer method dialed in yet, as far as color balancing, but the sound synchronization is absolutely perfect (Film coming soon!).
Pro8mm developed the film and scanned it in after processing, so I included that transfer.
Please feel free to leave your comments below. There will be many more movies to come shortly.

Thanks for taking the time to share the comparison. I was in the similar situation of digitally preserving Super 8mm film on a budget. You can see the Do-It-Yourself frame by frame scanner in my videos. Real professional scanners range in the tens of thousands of dollars, so getting similar quality on a budget translates into slower scanning, but the results are amazing.

They all seem a little disappointing to me but it's great that you've gone to so much trouble to compare the results. The Wolverine is sort-of sharp but the file compression is such that it's adding grain to grain, and ruining the results. Pro8mm gets my vote, but so it should looking at their price list, though they do offer different quality transfers. The Focuskye even leaves flicker in the output, where the projector's shutter isn't sync'd to the camcorder. Bit of a hair in your camera's gate too, I see.

Compression should not be used for the raw capture. Any 'professional' scan should have ZERO compression artifacts. Every method used in these examples have extremely high compression artifacts - especially the Wolverine. Someone needs to hack the Wolverine and upgrade the sensor to something with higher dynamic range and 4K resolution, then modify the firmware to capture RAW images.

Mmm. Good choice to show the same clips across 4 different sources. I'm not impressed by the quality of the Zoli, which I believe is a very expensive piece of kit. Would not even consider the Wolverine . Have to give the high 5 to Pro 8 that is displaying great quality on my 27" PC screen -even after post downgrade coming through the U tube -tubes! That Elmo K100 kit is showing rolling flicker bars right thru the clip(s). My condolences on your Dad's passing.

Actually, I'm quite impressed by the Zoli. You just have to adjust the color, which I did not do for this transfer, and get your technique correct. Yeah, it took me some time.

What ektachrome film did you use?

It was a roll of color reversal film from Pro8mm (www.pro8mm.com). They called it "Ektachrome" so I called it Ektachrome. They no longer offer the stock, since Kodak makes it; or, so I assume. It's the bottom stock here: web.archive.org/web/20150323013951/www.pro8mm.com/reversal-super-8-film-stocks.php
