Hi Top 5 Records, thank you for another comparison video. 👍🏼 I’m surprised you found the Classic Records pressing as your favorite. 🤔 I used to own the Classic Records pressing, but I found it too bright for my tastes. Strangely, I felt that the Jimmy Page Remasters (from the 90s box set) beat the Classic Records version 😳🤷🏻♂️ I also plan to make a RU-vid record comparison video on Led Zeppelin 1 with my copies: Led Zeppelin 1 UK 1st pressing with Turquoise cover, UK 2nd Pressing (Warner Bros. credits), US 1969 pressing (with ‘RG’ in the deadwax = mastered by Rob Grenell), and the US 1974 Monarch pressing (mastered by the great George Piros = GP). I recommend getting a Led Zeppelin 1 with ‘GP’ in the deadwax, this pressing may blow you away 🤔✌🏼
Thanks for the advice! I will look for a GP pressing! And I am very curious about your comparison! Awesome to have a turquoise one! Where did you find it?
@@top5records796 Could you do me a big favor? Could you please let me know which particular '71 German pressing you have? Hi @@top5records796 & hi Jason, i thought the same. I have an (orange) UK-Original, the '74 GP from the US (Monarch) and i also had this Classic Records. And yes, the CR has overall a nice masterings but also CR has always problems with brightness. It's not that fun to hear it. But i also have to say, i didn't think the UK-Original is perfect. It's a bit thin but i guess this is due to an not so great recording. The GP on the other hand has more Soundstage and more body, yes. I like and keep both and i'm still on a hunt for a turquoise one.. :D.
I agree with the other posters who have suggested the George Piros mastered US pressings. The difficulty is finding a copy with both sides that are mastered by George Piros. The copy I have is a combination where side 2 is a Piros cut. It is noticeably better than side 1 by a wide margin.
Great video , I’ve just returned a original French copy 0920078 unfortunately it was warped and got stuck on side 2, side 1 sounded awesome, never mind fortunately my local record shop are really good and have regular stock , I brought this version after missing out on a uk 2nd press on plum , hopefully another one will appear soon , keep up the great videos and enjoy the vinyl 👍
You need the US George Piros. It's comparable to a Robert Ludwig mastering of Led Zeppelin II. It's generally rated as the best sounding pressing by many.
@@top5records796 : Monarch , 1974, Pressing: Matrix / Runout (Side One [etched]): ST-A-681461CC-REPL AT/GP △18257(2) PR Matrix / Runout (Side Two [etched]): ST-A681462CC-REPL AT/GP △18257-X(2) PR . I have also had the 200g Classic Records, actually very good, but really too bright on a neutral / revealing Hi-Fi system.
I need to play my 1977 US pressing again. I assume it has different mastering than the 1969 US pressing. According to my notes, George Piros cut the lacquer used for Side 1. He usually did good work. We shall see/hear.
i remember back in 2005 i had just started collecting vinyl and i bought the classic 200gram zeppelin 1. i didnt really like the sound. i remember it sound too polished maybe slightly digital? idk...anyway back then my hifi was much worse and i wasnt an audiophile then. i became one much later. so unfortunately i sold it and bought a uk plum. when i heard the plum i loved it."this is what zeppelin is supposed to sound like" is what i remember thinking. i do wish i kept that classic because im sure i would have a much different opinion now.
I believe the Classic Records versions are all analogue. Perhaps it is indeed a case of the sound system, but also there is a unique quality to the red plum original!
Hey mate, you ought to try the Spanish Alvear A8/B6, or A8/B8 mastering. It's noticeably better that my German copy! As many people say it is the best copy out there. You need to hear it to believe it. It sounds massive and airy!
Ok, but your '71 german pressing seems a little bit different. is it not supposed to be written "STEREO" on the corner? your version looks like it's arabic or something... i've never seen it
