In this vlog I discuss the different ways in which you can distinguish these species. Often there are subtle differences that you can notice if you look closely, and some are very apparent!

The Carnarvon Fan Palm (livistona nitida) looks very similar for sabal! It has the trunk of a Canary Island, the pedials of a washingtonia and the fronds of a sabal.

Great video palmfather 👍🏼 🌴 Sabals are awesome. I’ve had success with keeping them here in Pennsylvania.

@@joule-trix I do cover them but without heat. I know someone in the same area who doesn’t protect at all including seedlings and they do fine. They are seriously tough.

I love them all! Palmetto is my favorite palm. The most cold hardy trunking palm in the Americas.

Hey Christian, Great video 👍 loving these types of videos 👍🌴 Sabal x Brazoriensis is an ancient hybrid between Sabal palmetto and Sabal minor, there was a lot of speculation before but it was determined through DNA 🧬 testing in 2011.

Hey! Love your channel! Where would I find the giant sabal for sale? Iv had 3 established ones put in our yard but The Bigger the better. We are located in Orlando but the nursery’s around here are hard to work with they don’t want to deal with you unless you are buying in bulk. I’m just blown away there are so many types of sabals. I just thought if they were big boys it was just a nutrition thing. Learning so much!! Anyway any Info on that would be awesome. Thanks so much. ~krystal

Hey man thanks for your video. Do you know what the most common Sabal Czar that lean on the light green color but the leaves are not folded at all? I prefer the leaves that do not look like they're folded down the middle.
@TheCfkingfish
@TheCfkingfish 5 лет назад
Sabal minor, mauritiformis, and yapa fold the least.

Great vid Christian!! Out west we have Sabal Riverside. What Sabal does it closely resemble?? Is it cold Hardy?? Want to try it in my zone 8b. Thanks!!!!
@TheCfkingfish

Sabal Riverside Is likely closely related to some of the species from Texas and northern Mexico. I would say any of the large trunk species would be worth a go there in your zone.

They(Sabal uresana and Sabal pumos) differ in seed size and shape from palmetto. Sabal causiarum is bigger fan leaves. And, more massive trunk.

Is it possible to cross the palmetto with minor to get a taller maybe not that coldhardy like a minor?
@weswall7737
@weswall7737 3 года назад
The Sabal Birmingham could be a cross I just bought one myself but they are closer to a fortunei in cold tolerance I heard they are hardy down to 0 with leaf burn that’s a more mature size they are slow growing they have been know to survive the negatives to but I would protect it under 5 degrees
