Casio mudmaster Master of G GWG 2000 (updated version of the GWG 100) g shock vs GG B100 vs early 2000s Pro Trek 60T
g shocks and my kestrel 5500 and the g shocks read the 0m reading it seems as I wondered why 5500 gave two pressure readings but now I understand the kestrel pressure reading is for sea level and explains why it can't be calibrated lol and the baro gives whatever reference set too....
So if we need to use altimeter on kestrel we set the height and pressure as we climb or descend alters height for us.
My garmin fenix was always on the baro height ie different to g shocks and 5500 pressure readings. I will see if I can set the fenix to 0 and get same readings as kestrel ..... but will altimeter work on kestrel if that is done. The altimeter on g shocks seems independent to barometric pressure settings. Golly it's complicated stuff lol

Good video. I’ve found the ggb100 and gbdh1000 compasses to be more useful because of the tilt compensation. The rangeman I used previously was very sensitive to tilt, easy to do in mountain terrain. I just miss being able to record bearings like the rangeman did.

I just bought a ProTrek PGR60. I was unaware of how old they are. The seller said the battery runs down rather quickly and now I know why. Guess I’ll send it to Casio for a battery change and gasket check. Still glad I bought it

Still wearing my Pro Trek prt-40 from 1996. One of the first Casio ABC watches. Very disappointing to know that they still use the same tech inside after 27 yrs, mind you. That is why I never upgraded because I always expected that much. Your vid has confirmed my suspicions

Difference Between Barometric Pressure and Atmospheric Pressure. Atmospheric Pressure refers to the pressure exerted by the atmosphere. Barometric Pressure is a term used to describe the pressure measured by a barometer.
@wildaboutwatches
@wildaboutwatches 2 года назад
Do we read or interpret them the same I guess we do and why not just use the atmospheric pressure.. My kestrel measures both. Looks like watches uses atmospheric pressure as that matches the kestrel but they can be calibrated lol kestrel can't for the atmospheric pressure. Strange goings-on lol 😆 thank you for posting

The 1023 is for sea (zero ground) level, but 980 is the pressure where the watch user is located (at what height). The higher we are on Earth the pressure drops and vice versa.

Tow numbers on your device one is calibrated to Seal level pressure (SLP) and the other is absolute pressure at your exact location. For a 100 meter increase in altitude you get approx 10hPa drop in barometric pressure. All these Casio devices you have mesure absolue pressure ans not SLP. To get accurate reading the watch has to be in a fixed altitude to present an accurate Baro graph reading. So ideally, check the Barometer first thing in the morning to gauge what the graph has been doing overnight.

LML I did laugh at the end, that was great my friend, really good... loved the little updates the next day, to really make sure you're doing all you can to make it fair... I would say they all faired well, impressed with that ProTrek ;) I'm currently on a video about the ABC side too, but nothing with testing, this is to share a few watches to how much functionality they offer... so will be some technical data included that's downloadable which I'm just tuning still... So will probably give you a shout-out using this excellent video.... So my conclusion, why not use a BOLEX bracelet and attach it to your handheld device, then you'll have the most personal perfect ABC watch ;) Big thumbs my friend, that must've taken some time to edit, even more tricky being out camping! Good video. Pressure is the raw data or the absolute value read by the sensor. Barometric pressure is the value of pressure calculated at sea level based on pressure reading X at elevation Y. The formula is roughly 1 hPa or mbar decrease per 8 m increase in elevation.
@jerryg50
@jerryg50 2 года назад
On my Casio watches I calibrated the temperature, compass, and barometric pressure. For the pressure I made sure I set it to the equivalent of sea level. I found my watches to be reasonably accurate overall, but not as perfect as dedicated professional laboratory type instruments. For the compass verification I used a Swedish hiking compass. I used Fluke and Taylor professional laboratory instruments to verify the watches. The compass is a Silva. It is difficult to hold a compass in your hand and get an absolute good reading. Best to put the watch down on a flat level surface and be more than 2 meters from anything metal. I recently bought a GWG-2000. Excellent watch, and I found it to be fairly accurate.

Casio's altimeter will always be off, while the barometer is dead accurate. So I guess the new gwg-2000 still has the old inaccurate altimeter chip / sensor then.

Utterly disappointed with the GGB100, I had the same problem with the compass, it was all over the place even after calibration, the GPS function NEVER WORKED, tried it with 3 different phones and always the same, the little screen displayed "FAILED" after looking for the marked location. I sent the watch back and bought a GWG-1000 second hand in nearly mint condition and everything works better and is more accurate. I know how the GPS works on the GGB100 and some may say i dont even need it, but when i pay alot of money for THIS, i want THIS to work, the GGB always marked a location but could never find it so you can go back to it, it always failed. Overall i think the GWG 1000 is the better option, not to mention that the GGB100 feels like a cheap plastic watch on the back, the wrist band also feels low quality.
@wildaboutwatches
@wildaboutwatches 2 года назад
Yup I found the exact same with it I even tried to gravity master 😅 did a video of it failing lol sent it back. Agree it feels cheaper etc and whilst I'm unlikely to actually use the GPS as such it has one feature from very few that doesn't work lol I have a garmin with a ton of features many I don't even understand but pretty sure most work 😀 I'm rambling lol thanks for watching and posting comment 😀

@@95manneya Well if i have to be honest it "gets the job done" to some extent, the GWG is the better option but i never used the functions on it, they did seem accurate tho, the problem i had with the GWG was that it almost never caught signal, after i bought it it caught signal only once and then never again, before i bought it it had caught signal about eight months before that, i ended up selling it altho i wouldve kept it if i didnt need the money.
@95manneya

I have the GG-B100 mudmaster . Do you think the sensors are better in the better G-shocks?
@thewolfhimself4867
@thewolfhimself4867 Год назад
@@95manneya I do think the sensors are better on the more expensive gshocks, but that doesnt mean they are as accurate or very useful. Good example is the altitude meter, i live in a high apartment building and i just so happen to live on the top (10th) floor ninety km away from the sea, the altimeter shows around 100m but it never stays the same, so if i go home it shows 115m for example but after a week it shows 130m in the same place at home, after a week it would show 135m and after another week its down to 125, i had this problem both with the gwg and the ggb, showing that the sensors arent accurate at all. A friend who has the gwg2000 came to visit once and his one shows 150 or something like it which showed a different number next time he came. If you buy a gshock just go for the design, the sensors are all shit and there are plenty of threads online for the non-working gps on the ggb100, many people have this problem

Both are Thailand made. They have dust and moisture due to their location humidity. Best is made from Japan. I have returned my GWG 2000 ( made in Thailand) 15 times because they had dust under the screen. Checked by flashlight.

Have no idea why they bother with a temperature sensor on these watches when they are so susceptible to body temp. Unless they originally meant them for body temp but just forgot to tell anyone. It is one of the most pointless things these watches have. As to the altitude, yeah, it gives you a rough estimate of how high you are But think about it if you are in a situation where you actually need to keep a record of barometric altitude, there are better instruments for that. So you would not rely on a watch. Basically, most of the watch sensors are just fluff. Why I would never get a G-shock with sensors like that, that of more use are the ones you can pair with your phone, so you can get a point reading to place on a map now that is useful. PS I do like G-shock's just I like to avid the fluff.

Where the altimeter is good if you're coming off a hill and you know at ,xxxx meters you need to turn NE then it's a good guide if you calibrate it. Yes weather can affect it but it's a guide to assist and if the weather is poor or improving you can take that into consideration.
@wildaboutwatches

Looks like they cater for fluff less customers too... 😀
@freequest
@freequest 2 года назад
@@wildaboutwatches Actually made me think of something. A sudden change in pressure can alert you to worsening weather. And in that respect would be handy. Also, I pretty much forgot that aircraft use barometric pressure, and those things are constantly recalibrated en route do it a lot in flight sims. So maybe the altitude function is not really that bad, a basic weather alert and accurate enough for hiking.
@wildaboutwatches
@wildaboutwatches 2 года назад
@@freequest exactly right. I was in poor weather in the Lake District the other week and constantly checked my baro to see if it would get worse or improve as I had no signal on phone so the only thing to guide me was pressure lol
