Just made this for fun and to help anyone who is on the fence about buying the SOUL Performance Exhaust for their 987.1 Cayman S. In my opinion its totally worth every penny!
Nice video fella... soul performance under load sounds so sweet... Just a thought but if you do car detailing, it might be worth doing a before & after video and some of the steps you take along the way ... that customer car looked tip top! I'm from UK... if you get chance see 'white details' in uk his work is mega (I don't know him, I just like his videos)... it might help showcase your skills more... cheers
@@rehanbhatti8148 On start up and when he revs it. Has blue smoke coming out of the exhaust, witch are mainly caused by a failing AOS and/or blow by on the rings.
Thanks for putting this together, Clayton. Either way, I'm committed now as my 987.2 valved exhaust, street long tubes, are waiting for me to install them - in addition to a plenum and TB. Did you yank your wrap - I swear your car was green on the install videos?!
The video just doesn't capture how cool these sound in person. Clayton, how does the sound of the 987 compare to the 981 or 718 in your opinion? To me, the stock version definitely sounds more subdued compared to the 718 (yes, the 4-cyl sounds amazing).
Four cylinder sounds amazing ??? Not many people would agree with that I am sure. No 4 cylinder will ever match the sound of a six, though Porsche did a decent attempt at making their 718 sound better than a typical 4 pot motor.
OK, fair enough. I agree with that. Espc the 2.5 model. But seriously, I cant help thinking that Porsche made a mistake by going the 4 cylinder route, no matter how efficient or powerful these engines are. They should added a small turbo to the last Cayman 6 pot type, just like they did with the 911`s. Better emissions, fuel economy and nice throttle response with the small turbo.
I see that second hand prices on the 981 are rising sharply, and I am not surprised. The sound of that car with the Porsche sport exhaust is amazing. The more classic lines of the 987 appeal to me the most, but the 981 has such an upgraded interior, and other upgrades, that it makes for a very compelling choice if you have the moolah to buy one. I dont, but very happy with my 987 S.
Stock sounds MUCH better. Hilariously, they both sound much more modest than a stock 1998 2,5L 986. That's world with ecologists in charge as opposed to the old days.
Why did she tint her windows. The owner should have done a light tint and a plexiglass clear cover for the beautiful flat 6 engine... It really looks great on mine. Anyways SP’s exhaust rocks! Really well made too, it performs as good as it looks!
Thanks for the video. Next time, focus on only sounds in the cabin. Windows up, windows down, then driving while rowing through the gears through the full rpm range. Thanks for the video though!
Please do a video under load with Soul performance exhaust inside cabin and outside. I am considering adding the headers to my Soul cat-back. I have the 987.1 2.7 L and it sounds great but I want more noise but not more drone
I have the 06 Porsche Cayman S 987.1 with the Soul Performance Exhaust and 82 mm IPD Plenum do you suggest any coilover and 19” wheels for this model ? Please let me know providing some links . I appreciate as always your videos and mods you did on your Porsche Cayman thank you again
I don't have any experience with coils yet, but I did just install some H&R lowering springs! That install video is coming soon. The rear struts are a huge headache
The soul exhaust sounds great. Excellent comparison. By the way, the soul car seemed to smoke a lot under revs, did it not. ?? Lots of blue smoke. I did notice that it has over 100k miles, so maybe, just maybe, that is part of the reason. I have a Cayman S myself, a 2006.
I dont know. Kinda looks like the back pulse tuning of the Soul is not syncing with the valve overlap very well. At least not in the top of the RPM range you are hitting in your examples. Poor scavenging. On the other hand, maybe youre just running really rich, or have a ring or scoring issue.
I keep seeing that issue come up. there hasta be an option out there without giving up too much in added HP and deeper sound. I'll ask around the pca group and see if they have any ideas. Thanks
I think it's the rear main seal, something about it leaking oil. I vaguely remember reading that these years had a small problem with that, and an IMS issue in like 5% of cars
