Answering the big question between the Chauvet DJ Intimidator Hybrid 140SR or the Intimidator 375Z. The brightness is very similar(in the video the 375 was shining on a white wall and the Hybrid on the Gray wall, just noticed) and I would say pretty much dead on the same.
The Int. 375z advantages:
LED is 150w and doesn't need to cool after striking
longer lasting bulb life
Faster strobe response
lighter weight
comes in WHITE!!!!
I Feel more for mobile
Intimidator Hyrbrid 140 SR
Double gobo wheels
Linear Prism and 8 Facet prism
Spot, wash(frost), beam all in one
UV filter
Warm White filter
Overall higher end for bigger shows(step to a pro)

Thanks for the video. Short but sweet... I purchased a pair of the 140SR's. I almost purchased the 375Z but went with the 140SR's. They are by far the best pair of moving heads I now own. I just used them yesterday at a corporate event in the day time with lots of outside ambient light coming in through the windows.and some areas that had lower light. They are still too big and bright so I turn down the intensity to 50% for most of the smaller events I do so I'm looking for a set of light fixtures in between when I currently have in my inventory. Maybe something between 80 to 100 watts.

Sorry to hear that you aren't happy with this light fixture Michael. Did you purchase the Hybrid ones or just the 140SR? Since there aren't many comments I've seen about this light fixture and very few RU-vid Videos as well, I've used these twice now. Once with a rock band first then the corporate gig last Thursday. One thing I've learned is to choose the right light fixture for the event. I've played with this a lot on the bench and programming them for my scenes. First, to comment on your # 1 it will look different being the type of discharge lamp. To comment #2 I personally like some of the GOBO's but that's my taste and its opinions at this point. To comment #3 I love PowerCon! I wish all my light fixtures had it. It's a more expensive investment but you'll never need to worry about power disconnecting. I've already spent hundreds of dollars on the special PowerCon / DMX cables by Blizzard its what I went with. To comment # 4, I agree manual is a pain but I only use DMX programming. When I received mine, I saw it had some dust on the lens when I pulled it out of the box. Like with any light fixture below a certain power rating, you will always need some kind of haze or fog. I normally just use some light haze. Based on all that I just mentioned, I think my Hybrid 140SR is a fantastic light fixture. Would I use them for weddings, yes but I think these are better for rock, hip-hop shows. This is a semi-pro light fixture. I agree that Chauvet and ADJ, for example, have better suited light fixtures, like the new 375z, new Spot three, 350 ect....

Another factor that was pointed out to me and can be seen in this video. The Hybrid has a very strong hotspot in the middle as compared to the 375z. Could play a role for some

Neil Cutler I am guessing the surface I am hitting with the hybrid. I have a seminar on reflective properties of a surface and lighting.

Thanks, I am looking at getting the Hybrid 140SR, so are you saying that the hotspot isn't stronger on the 140SR than the 375z then?

the hotspot is pretty bad, look at my review: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3s5NWOQS4UY.html

I've been asked to do some theatrical performances with my moving heads and now the 140SR looks really valuable to add to my rig, but for theatrical performances: what is the noise level of the hybrid? How does it compare to others you've used?
@cutlernj

Just wanted to thank you for the comparison and replies. I've gone ahead and bought 2 Hybrids largely because of this comparison and your detailed videos you've made of the Hybrids. In case you're talking to Chauvet - this has made them money ;)

Neil I'm in the same situation that you are....doing theatrical...how are they working for you? Thanks

Maybe my question could be answered here. I noticed the wash effect happens from the frost filter being applied on the 140SR. But that it's on a dmx channel 0-255. What happens if the frost filter is only partially engaged (128 for instance). Does the wash have various softnesses perhaps?
@djjermusic
@djjermusic 6 лет назад
Neil Cutler great question. It still creates a half spot half wash. We have used it before for certain looks. It really isn't ideal but hope that helps.
@cutlernj
@cutlernj 6 лет назад
Thanks! Could you possibly elaborate on it? I don't always like the very sharp edges of the spot for some applications, wondering if it creates a softer edge spot effect or if it creates more of a tighter wash effect (I'm guessing it's the former) or just creates something that really isn't useable for any application. What application did you use the partial effect for?

Interesting to see this because according to the specs, the 140SR Hybrid should be much brighter than the 375Z. Keep in mind the 140SR goes from 3 degrees to 14, while the 375Z goes from 10 to 23, so they each have their own usage. Granted with the dual prisms the 140SR Hybrid can get quite large but you do lose brightness by doing so.

When you overlay both prisms on the hybrid how small can the result go? Does it go smaller than a RH1? Worried that there's little use for this mode if there's not enough brightness.

The Boogie Knight I have never tried zooming in with the prism so I am not sure. That is a great question. We do have a production setup today so I will take a look.

I like the look of 375 :/ I got the 140sr and I hate the light . #1 the light burn from the light bulb sucks on photos you can see the differences when you shine it on the sealing with the necked I and on camera it's even more noticeable. #2 gobos suck. if you doing a wedding no glass gobos nothing pretty like 250 or 350 or 375. #3 powercon 👎 for a mobile dj caring extra cables sucks if you left it home or lost it or broke it you you done until you buy another overpriced cable. #4 double zoom sucks its so hard to go from one to another gobo if you are doing it manually it's good if you programmed it but who has time to do for every gig. #5 I had so much dirt on my color Wheels they look like black spots brand new life and dirt inside how long will fan will work then. only one good thing its bright and in beam mode its amazing but only of you have haze or smoke otherwise this is just bright light that no one will care for. I'm sooooo bumped I spent $ on this crap. ill try resale it and get the 375z I hope I can help one person with my experience . and thank you for making this video and using chauvet they are much better company and good stuff competed to others.

Just one quick note - the 375z also has Powercon so you can't fix that problem by trading the 140sr for the 375z.

arock I know.. and not happy about it :/ the manual I got it doesn't show powercon so origional looks like it was supposed to be regular plugs

Thanx for chiming in. I don't mind Powercon because my subs and tops use those types of power cables; I have plenty. I'm gonna go with the 375z based on your response.
