Editor's Note:
This is the 2nd posting of this video as the 1st one was corrupt, which I deleted
What, or is there a difference between the Optolong L-Pro filter to the L-Ultimate? I tested the two on several deep sky targets, the Pacman nebula, the Rosette nebula, the duet of galaxies of M81 and M82, and the trio of galaxies in Leo. I also tested the L-eNhanced filter with the Player-One planetary camera, the Uranus-C, on the Crab nebula. While testing these targets over several nights, I invested in the new BlurXTerminator from RC-Astro and show the results using it on the different comparisons. Very Interesting, to say the least.

Love the Optolong Ultimate filter. Not many chances yet to use it, due to weather etc, but looking forward to lots of use during 2023. Thanks for these examples. BlurX is on my wish list!

Hi Peter, Those Optolong filters are quite good. I have a small fortuned invested in them! Hopefully your sky will clear soon and you'll be able to see for yourself.

Great video again Pat, very interesting. I've been using the L-Ultimate filter now for a few months (only had a handful of clear nights though), but I am very happy with it, no more bloating stars or halos, great filter but very narrowband with the 3nm, but it gives you great contrast in the images and you definitely need more integration time due to the 3nm. Yeah RU-vid is exploding these days with BlurXTerminator videos, looks interesting but for now I don't use Pixinsight yet for editing. That will be for next year, again something new to learn then 🙂

Hi Siegfried, These filters make it possible to image the night in moderate to high light polluted areas. I am around a Bortle 5 here in the Heavenly Backyard Garden. I wouldn't know how to edit my images without PixInsight and Photoshop and the BlurXterminator is a game changer.

Hey Pat! Deja vu! I’m sure I saw your video this morning! Or am I going mad🤣 I left a comment and I thought I had a notification from you, but couldn’t find it when I looked!! Strange! Anyway, great comparison of filters and review on BlurXterminator! I bought this software a few days ago, it’s brilliant 😀Excellent example images also, nice work Pat! Have a happy Christmas and new year and plenty of clear skies!

Hi Simon, You're not crazy ... or at least I don't think you are in that you do hang around Glenn ... Ha!. I did deleate the first version of this video as it was in very low resolution. I re-rendered it and CHECKED to make sure it was in high resolution. In the earlier version during the comparisions, all the images were blurry. I just had to pull it off RU-vid and re-upload the clean version.

@@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy Aha, that explains it😀! Glad I’m not going mad! but as you say, Glenn is having an influence on me🤣 Clear skies Pat

Good video Pat. I find the BXT default for star reduction too high. I usually use 0.20.

Hi Jim, That might be a good idea to try ... as it seems my stars are a bit too small after running BlurXT

I have got to learn to blend my filters , never have done it

If you have PixInsight, it is rather easy using the subroutine called "Pixel Math"
@Steve_The_Ignorant_Astronomer
@@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy I hate hate hate pixel math , I dont know how anyone knows how to use it , should be an easier way....
@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy
@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy Год назад
So you do have PixInsight? Pixel Math is can be complex, but it is also quite simple for ordinary use. for example, the equation for merging two images togeter is simply 0.5*Image1 + 0.5*Image2 ... Assuming that the images have been star aligned. That's it. The asteric "*" is simply the multiplier which is usually refered to as "X" in algebra. It comes from simple computer coding. Go ahead and try it. A good way to learn is through just trying out simple formulas first.
@Steve_The_Ignorant_Astronomer
@@HeavenlyBackyardAstronomy Yea ok but how do you even know that's the equation. I was you can say blend image one with image 2 , or remove stars from image, I am sure someone can simplify it... How would you even begin to know pixel math
