Back in the early 90’s when I was in high school I collected Jotters pens, and made it a point to collect as many different color variations I could find. I owned a Black, Chrome, Blue, and Red one that looked Burgundy all made in the U.S. I remember when I found out they made lead pencils I went nuts and bugged my mom every day till she surprised me with one. Needles to say I was the coolest kid in class.
If you look for a 2 letter code stamped on the cap between the made in USA and the Parker Brand, that's a date code that can tell you the quarter and year it was manufactured. You can find a date code chart online.
Thanks, this was very interesting. I got a pen/pencil set for graduation in 1980. Mine look a little different to your vintage set. I've lost the pen, but the pencil is on my desk here in 2018 (can't say I've used it much, to be honest!).
Very helpful video. Thx. I love mechanical pencils, so was happy to find this video. I have a several vintage Jotter mechanical pencils, and love using them.
Comes down to: Older finer thread and non protruding 'nib' when depressing the button. Vs: Accessible eraser without having to take the pen apart each time. What do you value more, functionality or a more refined feel when taking the pen apart.
I dropped my classic stainless steel and gold pencil , it’s the Type C style :( . I am worried that I broke it. The top cap is loose. Now the cartridge comes out without unscrewing it. My mom gave this to me many years ago. She has passed . Is there hope to fix it or do I just need to replace the cartridge
It was probably a good choice to refill the 1980s Parker ballpoint with a Fischer cartridge using the little white converter that comes with each Fischer cartridge. The Fischer cartridges are hermetically sealed, while the latest Parker refills made at their new factory in France leak like sieves.
Hello there, thank you for this video. I just bought a pen and pencil set from someone on Facebook. They have that Arrow design on the top part. Also interesting Lee the pencil is a twist function pencil. Any idea how I'd go about finding out more about this pen and pencil set and weather if it's vintage or not? The only thing that I could find on the them is that it says they're made in the USA, and they have that pink eraser, and the eraser for the pencil is in the middle part of the pencil, when you essentially pull the pencil aparts in halves (sorry I hope that makes sense). Interested to see if he could give me any extra information about this set. Thank you. 🙏🙂
so i like writing utensils, i just bought a parker parkette de luxe mechanical pencil, its a marbled red/burgandy pencil, i dont know where or how to get the led to sit in the pencil, thought it was really cool, and it even stated it had a parker pencil lead cartridge, dont know if this is something pretty new or old, but maybe as someone who knows more about it youd be able to help, if anything it says made in usa
9:33 threading doesn't looks that different between these two. Just the diameter is different. There were older models with brass internals and the appropriate fine threading afaik.
Nice review. I used the Jotter pencil through high school (Yes, the early 80s). I enjoyed using it for the most part. What i didn’t like was a lack of grip and needing to take the cap off to erase. Now. of course, using this “vintage” pencil is a novelty. At the time the choices were far more limited (no big box stores, Walmart, Target, Amazon, eBay, etc.) I was really excited when newer pencils came with a top eraser and grips. My Jotter ended up in a drawer.
There are some pencils you should do reviews on. They are; Graphgear 800, Tombo Mono shaker, the uni Kurotoga roulette model, and the uni alpha gel Kurotoga hybrid mechanical pencil
+Mr. Waffles If you scroll through the Channel archive you will see that I have reviewed the Tombow Mono Graph Shaker. Go to klecser.wordpress.com and use the Search function. I have reviewed the Graphgear 800 and Uni alpha-gel (shaker, not the Kuru Toga) on my blog. I have no plans to review the Kuru Toga roulette because I'm not crazy about the Kuru Toga engine on a drafting pencil. If you really want me to review it, send it to me! :) Send me a private message.
My dad just gave me one of his two tone sets, pens still writes perfect after 40 years, but the pencil while it appears to function will not take a lead...
Hello, nice set, but I'm not sure it is a Jotter. The clip does not look right for me. I think it is a Parke Classic set. You can check this parkerpens.net/classic.html or search for better images.
+Kalin Staikov You are correct. It even says "Parker Classic" on the box. One should never trust eBay sellers. I clearly have a lot to learn. I think the techniques for spotting modern and vintage Parker writing utensils in general are still accurate though, so I'm leaving the video up. I added some correcting annotations at various places. Thanks for spotting that!
+ahmadaamer6 Well parker has some stuff coming from india while other stuff is coming from France. And many sellers like to be obscure on the details like area of manufacture.
+Mr. Waffles I used your question as an excuse to start cobbling together all my mechanical pencil review on my blog into a single page of alphabetical links. It will take a few weeks to cobble them all together.
