Very interesting review. I purchased the Hendrix unpolished version. The unpolished version is much better at lathering than the polished version. I have the Pereira and the Cayuen bowls and the Hendrix unpolished is tops for me.
My favorite is also the Captains Choice (Obsidian). The HC&C bowl has a flanged edge (like the standard CC). Soapy water always remains in it and then runs down the edge. It is very difficult to keep these bowls clean. Therefore, my recommendation is always the CC heavy weight, obsidian or aquamarine.
I love my Captain's Choice copper bowl! I've had it for a couple years now and it has developed a beautiful dark patina on the outside of the bowl, that I've never tried to "clean up". The inside is lighter from whipping up lather and because I rinse it out after each use. I'm sure that the HC&C bowl would create a good lather, but for me, since I leave it sit on my sink all of the time, I like the character of the CC bowl.
I been looking for a bowl like the captains. Its a little out of my price range and for the material and i hear it gets tarneshed after a while. Of course you need to wash it and take care of it. I saw one like the captains choice for 13.99-16.99 on amazon but made out of porcelain. Now the downfall of that it can break. But we get what we pay for right and to each their own. Very nice review and informative. Thanks so much for the review and giving us your experiene on theses two bowls. Really appreciate it.
Very informative, I’ve seen the Captains choice sell on eBay very quickly, they don’t hang about. Luckily Shaving time in Uk sell them also. For me , I kinda prefer the Hendrix’s bowl. Might even order one, if they ship to Uk 🇬🇧👍
HC&C bowl is my GOAT. I'm not a fan of the circular grooves b/c I like lathering in a circular motion so its better suited for me. The circular grooves are better for back and forth lathering
