Here are 3 publications of The Gassmann Tarot. One each by Yves Renaud, Patrick Valenza, and Vieux Monde Express
I also reference the Tarot Classic deck from the 1970s by US Games Systems Inc
Each of these decks have their own flavor and I present them so you may decide which you prefer should you like a version of it.

I bought the Vieux Monde. I just imagine a story of a Protestant/Quaker/Puritan family loving the cards they grew up with, but had to add clothes to not offend their church friends. It just makes me smile to imagine the random possibilities for why it was altered. The original cards are beautiful as they are, but I love the quirky addition.

Well, it is historic right? It is part of tarot history, which is what makes it interesting. Thank you for watching and sharing your insights. ~ Marilyn

The Valencia version is from 1860; the other two from 1840. It's a different "print run" so to speak, and it seems that Mr. Gassmann was feeling a little experimental with the colors. I'm rather fond of the purples and oranges - it feels like a good deck for autumn!

The Gassman is modeled after Rochias/Proche deck[s], compare with Il Meneghello's Swiss Tarot for example [a Rochias/Proche deck]. Proche also engraved for the Burdels - see the Jacques Burdel 1813 for examples [this deck is composed of blocks from different engravers/ages - not all the cards are by Proche].

The Classic is based on a deck made for the Rochias family, it was known as Jean Petit Pierre maybe the engraver's name and like the Gassmann has rhe Hang man style of Catelyn Geoffroy tarot.

Ahh, good to know. Tarot Classic looks a lot like the Gassmann, which is why I thought it was probably based on it. Thanks for watching and commenting! ~ Marilyn

Thanks, Marylyn! The V Monde deck is just bad, in my opinion. Tha added clothes are horrible. And even some of the colors on clothing in other cards seem really off. And it is weird that the V Monde deck does look larger than the Renaud. But, honestly, I think I rather like the Tarot Classic. Interesting video, as usual, Marylyn.

The Tarot Classic is so pretty! I've had it since the 70s but at that time I had no knowledge or appreciation that it was based on the Gassmann. Yes, the clothes are most unfortunate in the Vieux Monde, but it is a slice of history I suppose. Since I have other copies of the Gassmann I'm ok with it, but if I only had one copy I'd recommend the Renaud. Thank you for watching and commenting! ~ Marilyn

Pleased you done this! I also like to have a few variations of the same version. . I do have the Classic and like you - it's RWS labelling gets me. The Vieux Monde version with the lack of borders made it look unfinished and the only card that retained its border was "Le Pendv" and the clothing - put me off! It's like buying a blonde wig and then dying it black? I'm sure the original owner had their reasons back in the day. I have the Yves deck and also love it - the greens make it pop. Look forward to your demo reading.

If I were to have only 1 copy of the Gassmann, the Renaud is the one to have of these three, hands down. I do like having more than one copy and hopefully this video helps others make an informed decision. Thank you for being here. I'm still waiting on ideas for questions from my viewers before doing anymore demonstration readings. ~ Marilyn

@@MarilynFromTarotClarity Q; I’m a great believer that everything happens for a reason, and although we ultimately make our own choices. So is it fair for me to ask why I’m in a predicament that ordinarily I wouldn’t have chosen? (Deep, I know!)

Thanks for kickstarting or rebooting my love for the Gassmann - I found them a little bit too “busy” or filled with too many details. But that makes them interesting and fun in a weird way. Or I am weird 😅😊
