Firstly, this about touch sensitivity of your keyboard. Secondly, You should increase the bass from the settings in the application or from an external mixer and use the mids in the middle or lowered. These will soften the sound of your piano.

So will it be correct to say that the setup for using the Garriton CFX is... connect computer (running the VST) to Digital Piano and take the sound output from your computer while you play your Piano?
@ItsThatJahncke2

You will need an audio interface hooked up to your computer to reduce the latency. Your headphones and studio monitors will be also hooked up to your audio interface.

@ItsThatJahncke2
@ItsThatJahncke2 5 лет назад
@@Leuvre If you are planning on just using your piano to control a VST on your PC then you will plug your [midi cable] from your piano directly to the [PC]. You will need an audio interface hooked up to your PC to reduce latency from your VST like Keyscape, Garritan CFX, Pianoteq and ect.. If you are just planning on using VST the only thing you will be hooking up to your audio interface is a pair of studio monitors and headphones. An audio interface is very important if you plan on using virtual instruments on your PC. Hopefully this information helps you out a bit

@Leuvre 5 лет назад
@@ItsThatJahncke2 thanks for your answer. Not sure if I understand. I want to use the VST to record and while I record I want to hear the sound of the VST live through my headphones. So yes, reducing the latency is very important. In your answer I understand that I have to plug the midi cable straight into my computer and also hook up my audio interface to my computer . Shouldn't I connect my piano to my audio Interface, which is then connected to my computer?
@ItsThatJahncke2
@ItsThatJahncke2 5 лет назад
@@Leuvre The only time you want to directly connect your piano to your audio interface is if you want to record the sound coming from your piano. Like that's say if you owned a Nord Piano and loved piano sounds coming out of it and you wanted to record it's sound directly into your PC. That's when you would hook up your piano directly to your audio interface. When it comes to just using your piano as a controller for VST on your PC the most common way of doing it is through a USB cable from your piano to your PC. You're PC will automatically detect your piano when you plug it in. Also when you open most VST on your PC it will know the brand name of your piano in the preference opinions. The important thing is finding the right audio interface for yourself. I personally use a RME Babyface Pro because their custom drivers offer amazing stability and some of the lowest latency in the industry.

0:03 Synthogy Steinway (sounds like a small concert hall reverb?) 1:08 Garritan CFX (a bit louder but similar sound) 2:14 Vienna Bosendorfer. (a bit louder still with a cathedral or large concert hall reverb). Because of the difference in reverb and loudness it is hard to pick the difference. You really need zero reverb to hear the differences. But thanks anyway. Still useful.

@@C90072 Hi Carlos thank you very much indeed for the precious advice. I had the feeling that Kawai makes great equipment. However As i am a beginner and i do not know how long the infatuation for keyboards will last i would invest less at first. I think that sound quality aside the most important factor is the action. For me the sensation of playing a real piano keyboard would be very important. I see the instrument as an input device. Maybe i will end with some SW module and a pc. But the keyboard quality and feel is what matters most to me. So i wonder with a budget around 500 USD which brand can give the keyboard most similar to an acoustic piano. A keyboard approved by a pianist let's say. Of course i understand that the real best ones comes with the TOTL models. Anyone not very expensive but particularly well built ? Or maybe you mean that the VPC1 is the level at which things become really serious ? Thanks again, gino

Nice when someone like this youtube poster takes the time/effort to provide helpful analysis/comparison......but I wish when doing so that he and many others I see/hear wouldn't play some ''new age....wimpy - la-la''' chords and would play something with some interesting chords and profoundness like Debussy's Clair de lune which really runs a wide range on the key board (and has more of a pentatonic and minor sound than too much happy major chords - or many other possibilities or maybe the problem is not being able to play classical pieces. And instead of playing the same stuff the entire duration of the demo,...mix in a variety of pieces....some stride, some jazz (Take Five?)- something a little edgy, If you don't agree, that's fine and understandable - many differences in taste - just my opinion.
@Zdrange03
@Zdrange03 6 лет назад
Yes, these pieces are not harmonically challenging, and any not-too-bad library would so a nice job. It's when you start playing more extended harmonies that the clashes in overtones can occur, or that certain dynamics like staccato becomes to sound more like a dry harp than a piano.

if I choose to buy this cfx, how can avoid the latency when playing?what equipment should I need?
@Hue_Nery
@Hue_Nery 6 лет назад
You will need a fast secondary hard drive. Don't install to your system drive. The software is 50GB! I would consider a dedicated SSD for this and any future VST Sample libraries. A decent CPU. 4th Gen i7 at least. Don't go with minimum specs. You'll be sorry if you do. An audio interface with good ASIO drivers. Max your ram so that you can load the piano directly to ram rather than having to cache from the drive. Maybe that's overkill but, if you plan on using it within the context of a full mix, you will need all the oomph you can get.
@Travv.Official
@Travv.Official 5 лет назад
Would you recommend some laptops that have the specs that you described?
@spartan456
@spartan456 3 года назад
@@JitinMisra Even a cheap laptop can process these audio samples, in terms of raw CPU power they don't take very much. Pretty much anything that's at least an i5 or AMD Ryzen equivalent will do the trick. However, you do definitely need a lot of RAM. The way how many sampled libraries function is they load _all_ of the samples into RAM, that way the samples can be accessed and processed by your CPU as quickly as possible. 8GB is probably not enough for most sample libraries (technically it is, but your OS and any other things you have running are going to probably be using at least half of it), 16GB would be more than enough to cover it though. If you don't have enough RAM, whatever can't be loaded in is cached on your drive. SSDs are recommended for sample libraries because they can load up into your RAM very quickly. Instead of having to wait a minute or two when changing presets or loading in new samples, you are just waiting a few seconds. Also, if your computer doesn't have enough RAM for your particular sample library, whatever can't be put in RAM is going to be cached on the drive. You will have significantly better performance if that stuff is cached on an SSD, rather than a mechanical. So in-general, it's good practice to rely on SSDs for sample libraries. Secondly, in terms of latency, the main cause of latency with MIDI-driven devices is terrible audio drivers. Even if you have more than enough RAM and your sample libraries are loaded onto a blazing fast SSD, if you're relying on the default audio drivers you will not be able to play anything back live. The default Windows audio manager is terrible and requires things to be processed through dozens of layers before it finally reaches the hardware. This results in latency that makes it completely impossible to play anything live when using a MIDI instrument to drive a VST. But there's a way around this. Many DAW softwares and standalone VSTis come with the ability to use ASIO drivers. These are selected within the DAW or VSTi as kind of a separate audio device. When these drivers are used, the latency becomes much more manageable. We're talking a difference of hundreds of milliseconds vs 5-10 milliseconds with ASIO. So, to recap: pretty much any laptop with an i5 or Ryzen equivalent, 8GB of RAM at a minimum, and an SSD. If your laptop supports multiple drives I would recommend installing a second SSD and just using that for your sample libraries. If not, use an external USB 3.0 SSD. And make sure to configure your DAW or standalone VSTi to use ASIO.
