Comparison: Robot Paradise RP-01 Acoustic Wave VS Takara Tomy MP-13 Soundwave 

That MP Soundwave still holds up. I think Acoustic Wave is a marginal upgrade. It's not like upgrading MP-11 to MP-52 or DS Crimson Wave, now that is an upgrade. I may get Acoustic Wave maybe sometime down the road, but not a necessity. I'm very happy with MP Soundwave, he is my favorite MP out of all of them.

Great video comparisons, it’s amazing years later the TT MP soundwave still holds to this day, I agree I can’t see myself replacing it but I love the Robot Paradise as well it nails everything toon wise. In the end I will be keeping both it’s a win win! 👍🏽

I have both of these figures as well, and they're both great. The ONE thing that bothers me about the RP Soundwave is the gold chrome on the chest. If that was yellow paint to match the yellow on the knees it would have been nearly perfect. The gold chrome just feels out of place and look a little odd IMO.

I definitely think Acoustic Wave is the better figure overall. Between the brighter colors, the ability to swap parts to look as toy or cartoon accurate as you wish, the more filled out transformation, and even the fact his "batteries" are stored in a compartment like actual batteries makes it feel like a much more high quality figure to me. I also just think the proportions look way better. That's not to say MP-13 is bad at all, far from it. It's still a great looking figure, and I think the scanner accessory was a great addition. Or even just the fact you can store the cassette accessories on him, and the fact that the buttons and switches on him can actually be pressed and moved. I'll probably end up getting both honestly. MP-13 first just because it's cheaper, and then RP-01 later on.

Happy with my MP-13 - bought it for £120 ($160) in Toys R Us (The good old days!). It also came with all the tapes as I remember!

I will also be keeping both. As always Sony, an excellent comparison. In general, I prefer the Acoustic Waves sculpt, but the TT version still looks good on the shelf. I like the real world look of the official in alt mode, so I think that is the mode it will be displayed in. I am looking forward to getting acoustic wave in hand. By the way, my two year old daughter loves your music. She breaks into dance every time it comes on.

It is Obvious a newer Figure will be better than an 8 year old one... I rather see how Good MP 13 is. I don´t need the Fans Toys one. I got the Hasbro version with all cassettes at the same price as the Takara one, so there is no need for the Acoustic Wave... Also I hate this new trend of new figures MP figures where the Transformation is not fun any more... I hate grabbing a figure and transform it only once... So MP 13 wins for me.

As much as I love MP-13 and I'm keeping mine, he's great! I prefer the sturdiness and overall presentation of the RP. Plus, I get to make a hybrid Soundwave that's between the toon and toy versions. It's great!

Even without going through the whole video, having both of these figures side by side is a no brainer on which one to have for the collection: RP-01. The shade of blue, the proportions, and the tweaked shapes make it more in line with the rest of the updated collection. With the reference picture, it matches more to that too without it being hyper toon. I even notice that the backpack even looks closer to it. The only non-toon aspect I like is the gold trim on the chest. I actually think that's pretty cool even if not accurate. I wish the glass was a light blue tint like the reference, but that can be solved with a piece of paper inside it to simulate that. But MP-13 is still a fun figure to have. Mine was gonna be alt mode but I might actually have the chance to just have him as a desk bot and get to mess with switching him back and forth in his modes.

I love the mp-13 but have always felt the need for a new soundwave. A more toon looking one. And while this rp isnt 100% toon looking its pretty damn close. Super excited for the new acoustic wave. Superior imo

If got the THF Soundwave and to be Honest it has nothing to envy to the Fan Toys version or TT, definitely love it

I don't really understand why reviewers keep saying that extra translucent piece for Acoustic Wave are to make him toy accurate, other than the little arrow, the old toy didn't have all that extra stuff.

Almost all aspects of Acoustic Wave is superior over MP-13 except from the overly complicated transformation. I especially like the option of being able to change between toon and toy look. Thats a nice touch. At the end of the day, my thoughts are, if you already have a MP-13, then stick with it. If you do not have MP-13, then definitely go for Acoustic Wave. Or sell your MP-13 first. lol

Considering how long ago MP-13 came out, that toon accuracy wasn't as much of consideration back then, and that FT has had the option of seeing and correcting all of the TT issues, MP-13 is still better.

The more angled face plate makes MP13's eyes look more menacing.

I will cancel my preorder of the robot paradise figure. When I look at my MP Soundwave on my shelf with all the tapes that was included with the Hasbro figure for a very good price it’s not worth it. The Hasbro is too good even though it’s old. I’m actually impressed how good it is and makes me appreciate him more. Nice video it helped me.

They should make a upgrade kit for the MP 13 so the legs can go all the way back and make it look better in the pelvis section

I'll be honest, the only reason I got an Acoustic Wave over the MP11 is because the batteries had weapon storage like the original toy. That's it. These two figures are amazing in their own ways.

Unfortunately, the HasTak cassettes will not fit in the Robot Paradise Acoustic Wave. BTW, Robot Paradise should make Acoustic Blaster (Soundblaster)...

I'll keep my MP Soundwave and use RP for my Soundblaster (Acoustic Blaster probably).

My lease favourite part with the masterpiece is the feet, the bottom of the feet are painted and exposed in the alt mode, so when the paint chips off of the feet when it’s one the ground, you can see when it’s in the alt mode… my other lease favourite part is that you NEVER PUSH THE TORSO FORWARD!!!

I found the TT the other day for $220 new everywhere else was $350

I didn’t really notice up until now that the color was off on the FT. It’s too bright. Wonder if this will make Takara do a 2.0 on theirs.

Great video! Waiting on mine to ship from ShowZ. That gap in price also depends on where you get it from, mine came at $227. I have the KO of Soundwave so this was an easy pick up for me.

wow i lucked out and picked up the US release MP soundwave from TRU eons ago for i think... $90??? came with lazer beak/ravage/frenzy (no rumble :( ) awesome review as always! for the prices today, i'd go with fanstoys. all their makings have been good solid bricks.

You shouldn't give more articulation range to the bot if you have to partially undo the transformation. Are you gonna leave him partially miss-transformed on your shelf? Didn't think so, so it shouldn't count.

Hey Sony I watched skullface's review the other day and he said that the blue wasn't painted and then he started running off how oh how can u give us a figure half painted 🤷‍♂️ im with u I think he's fully painted oh well I love him 😃👍

I think when I got my TT MP-13, I paid about $160 for it and I'm not sure if it was some time later after its release so prices were a little better. I probably had to pay closer to $200 when it came out I think. Still, $240 for Acoustic Wave isn't horrible at all. The fact that I see people comparing it to KO Soundwave prices boggles my mind because, yeah, you can definitely do that for any figure but that's not a fair assessment. There isn't an astronomical price difference between MP-13 and RP-01.

i think i'll just get Acoustic Wave at this point, since while being an upgrade it's not that much and i never had a Mp Soundwave it's only logical i go for the upgrade (even if it's not that much)

You should know that there's no comparison between the real thing and a bootleg.

I agree with the end result but not with the total score and the points per category. In my opinion RP-01 wins every category except for Paint were I believe it's a tie because the RP-01 blue isn't painted. The only categories were I'm not very sure are Accessories and Gimmicks because being able to change into the toy look is a gimmick but at the same time if we consider that a gimmick maybe we can't consider the parts needed for the gimmick accessories so in the end if you consider the toy parts accessories RP will win that category if not then from those two the RP-01 only wins gimmicks. Acustic wave can actually transform with the side leg panels

The Fanstoys Soundwave is not entirely painted. That is Blue plastic not paint....FYI

The only problem I see with AW is the head mold and the light color. I wonder if they will make a toy color version instead of this toon one. Head sculpt should be more meaner looking.

As a FT Fan I Don't think FT Acouctic wave is better. Always feel a little greasy about the FT Toys

The piece you "forgot the purpose of"? It's a sort of scanner. It also doubles as the "connector" when attached to both Rumble's & Frenzy's battery mode piledrivers to form a semblance of the cable that was seen when Soundwave played back Laserbeak's findings in The Transformers: The Movie. Meanwhile...I believe that MP13 still holds up just fine to this day. (Unless it's Hasbro's Year of the Goat version. That thing should be rocketed straight into the heart of a supernova.) It's probably why Takara hasn't been in a rush to do a new one. Soundwave is a fairly popular character, after all!! But yeah, I personally don't see enough of a reason to switch to the FansToys one; it's been redesigned from the initial FT02 designs, sure...but much like their Hot Rod, it still doesn't quite cut it for me.

I don't believe the blue on RP-01 is painted; I think it's metallic speckle embedded into the plastic.

Hey TMReviews. Do you know what makes me mad as hell when I watch these comparison videos? No matter what company or version, every figure always has some frustratingly stupid design decisions in it. It's like the do things wrong on purpose sometimes. For example you pointed out the gold chest on the Acoustic Wave not matching the gold on his legs. That was an idiot decision! What's wrong with people? I hate having things I like about each figure and things that I hate. It doesn't seem impossible to make one with sensible decisions all around. Even if I had a lot of money, which I don't, it sucks to buy several versions of a figure and know that you can never be fully happy with any of them. This is a big reason (other than money) that I feel like I can never fully get into this hobby. I have 4 MP figures right now and would like to stop at 6 or 8. I know everyone is saying "Good luck with that," but I am pretty firm in my resolve. It took me a couple of years to commit to owning every three of these. They were all Ebay risks. I made my first legit store purchase of an TE-01 Optimus Prime from ShowZ just a couple of weeks ago. I want a few core characters and then I'm out. It's a never ending rat race, hoping to get a figure done right. And I know that "right" is subjective, but I'm sure we can all agree that there are some stupid looking decisions made with lots of the figures. I'm the kind of person who's enjoyment is ruined by things that I find to be silly. Sorry. Rant done.
