The Compstang sounds more heavy and gritty while the Skystang sounds more cleaner, but I digress both guitars are beautiful in their own respects If I were to design a Kurt Cobain inspired guitar, I'd use the Hotrails from the Compstang and the Seymor Duncan pickups from the Skystang.

Overall, I prefer the sound of the Comp Stang, which really surprised me, because when I clicked on this video I fully expected to prefer Skystang 1. They're both such beautiful guitars, and they're unique in their own ways. Also is that the vintage SansAmp you're using, sounds so close to the record!

One side A guitar from fender replicated in 91 and appears in the most listen song music video: FENDER MUSTANG 91! In the other hand A model that gets attencion,not only for the colors and pickups But for the icon that use it FENDER SKYSTANG I! (For me,the mustang sounds raw and fuzzer,which for some it's good. But this time i will get the skystang,sounds more cleaner for my ears.)

Killer tone as always! Comp Stang definitely sounds a little more mellow than the Skystang that sounds a little louder,but overall both still look and sound great! Would be cool to see a three way shootout between the K Strat,the Vandalism Strat,and your new Tom Strat!

Great tones from both guitars. Possibly would be cool in the future for a shootout between the Phase 4 Hi-Flier and the Epiphone ET-270 or the Vandelism Strat and the Country Telecaster

I can't choose. Love the brightness of the single coils on single notes and low gain but the growl and power of the humbuckers under higher gain. Can't go wrong with either.

I have been waiting a long time for this type of video. Thank you for these style of videos and keep doing it. I´m so surprised how both guitars sound almost the same. I always thought that soundwise the Hot Rails can´t match the fullness of fullsized humbucker but I was wrong. Only difference in my ears is that Hot Rails are hotter, more distorted and they lack clarity in high end a little bit. I prefer the sound of Skystang but looks is Competition for me.

Glad you enjoyed it! The hot rails can definitely stand their own against a full size humbucker. I also prefer the high end clarity that Skystang's JB has, but both sound great!

Must...ang we choose? They're both amazing and legendary. There's no competition 😉 I have an original red 66' Mustang and a 90's Sonic Blue re-issue. I swapped the pickguards for the hell of it having no idea what I was doing...Mistakes were made. But my original 66' Sunburst Jaguar survived.

My suggestion is probably a pretty popular one, Vandalism Strat and Jaguar. These two Mustangs were surprisingly similar, but I think Vandy and Jag might be different enough to make things interesting

The differences are clear, but more...subtle...than I expected. I'm not sure if I'd hear a huge difference if I weren't listening carefully. I definitely like Skystang I more, though. Clearer and brighter while still packing one hell of a punch.

I recently watched all of your Comp Stang videos back to back so going into this I really expected the Comp to sound better but I was definitely surprised at the end. The Skystang sounded slightly brighter compared to the Comp. For the intro to Teen Spirit this was more noticeable. Both Guitars are awesome though! Also pretty soon I'm going to get a mustang to try a pickup mod on. I was wondering which type of pickups I should use. I love the way the single coil neck pickups with the hot rail bridge look on the Comp Stang, plus many people have recommended me to the hot rails. On the other hand, the Skystang's single coil neck with the humbuckers for the bridge is just classic. Which one would you recommend for a general, great sounding Nirvana tone and if there are better options than the 2 I listed? (P.S. if you are actually reading this then thank you for making this incredible content. If I have a question about Nirvana guitar history or gear then you're probably my first source. Keep up the awesome videos) And to anyone else that has recommendations, please let me know. Thanks.

Between the two, I would recommend Skystang's set up with a full size JB. Hot Rails are really great, neither choice is "wrong" but I personally prefer the high end clarity that the JB has over Hot Rails. Thank you so so much for the kind words and for watching! It truly means a lot 🙏

Skystang wins for me. Sounds more powerful. I always find double stacked single coil size humbuckers lack the punch full ones give. I always have to turn my amp up to compensate 😅

i just carved a cavity into my fender 2022 mustang to change the pickup switches to the original type of switches mustangs had. i dont really like the lp style switch right where im strumming

The Skystang 1 sounds clearer and handles distortion better, thanks to the full humbucker. In any case, the hotrail has a more compressed behavior. I don't know, I love the sound of the competition one. A video comparing the two channels would be great. Kurt's and Pat's. what and how each one plays, the same part of the song

It’s missing songs look like curmudgeon and if you must. Those would give a wider array of what the guitars sound like with multiple pedals, rather than basically just demoing distortion and chorus for an entire video (that’s not bad, I just would like more variety, and I liked that you did curmudgeon lash shootout, you should keep that one) Also, you should do a bleach era shootout, epiphone vs hi flier Overall pretty good video Eric, cheers

Skystang, but only barely. I think the difference most noticeable during the clean versions of About a Girl. The Skystang had just a little more authentic Nirvanyness to it there. A little more of a ring to it maybe? Distortion pedals made them sound the same. Both sound awesome.

I’m new to the channel and at 64 I’m just getting into Nirvana. So, I basically have little idea as to what you’re all talking about. Is there a good book to read that would basically explain his guitars and life etc? Basically a deep dive into Cobain and Nirvana? Great video!!
