Competitive CSGO on Deleted Maps 

I really love maps that arent the regular ol' reliable 4 squares. Playing maps like militia, oil rig, assault and 747 puts you in an entirely different game. These said maps feel like scenarios instead of arenas and that to me feels a lot more personal

When these maps were removed it really killed a lot of my love for the game. I've never been a super competitive player and these maps were some of my favourites (italy still best map) Sure they weren't good, but they were fun. Nothing will beat the memories of teaching 4 randoms how to jump onto the skybox of dust T spawn

It's also important to keep in mind that those maps were not played 5v5 but instead - like most maps - 10v10 or 20v20. This is where the fun begins.

1:52 Shots 1-5: Clearly missed. Shots 6-14: Missed due to recoil (bad spray control). Shot 15: Very close, but recoil and inaccuracy make these reasonable misses. Shot 16: Likely didn't actually fire because Warowl was already dead.

9:28 if you notice, the music fades a little when the flash bangs pops, just like the rest of the sounds in the game. its little details like these that make WarOwl videos so enjoyable to watch.

The removal of those maps also made some achievements of the game unattainable without downloading them from the workshop yourself. I don't get why Valve didn't keep these maps around even if it's only for casual mode or offline with bots.

Cs_assault will always have a special place in my heart

This really did take me down memory lane, and restored a lot of the memories that I had with CS. I think I've been brainwashed into seeing CS as being Dust2 and Mirage, but for me, it was assault, militia, italy, rats, iceworld, pool_party, hell, even oilrig. I think you still see a lot of those folks still playing office, and we should adopt insertion2 into those ranks of "try to shoot some people but also goof off trying to no-scope each other across the map" or something along those lines.

I still haven't gotten over the death of cobblestone. WarOwl , you are EVIL !!

I have an extremely fond memory of playing Aztec with my 8th grade friend. We were on T side and told my friend to "look what I'm gonna do". I bought an AWP and told him I'm going to noscope someone across the bridge, he didn't believe me. So, I stood behind the barrels, made my first jump and jumpshot noscoped a CT as first blood on my first try. Man, 2015 CS GO was something else.

*It almost brings a tear to my eye watching gameplay on the last good version of Cobble.* *I forgive WarOwl for getting it removed, but I fear I'll never forgive Valve for making those atrocious changes to it for the Halloween event.* All the epic Cobble matches of the 2014-2016 era I watched as a teenager, with Fnatic in their prime, and the Virtus Plow in full effect. The new map pool just doesn't seem to captivate me the same way it did before, but then again it was almost a decade ago.

I totally agree with how CS used to be about hanging out with friends and just being chill after school. Now it's about ranks, skins and being sweaty. I miss playing assault, estate, westwood (the music from the map omg), pool_day, dima_2, etc. life was so much easier back then :(

I miss Aztec and Cobblestone, cbble was my favourite competitive map.

I remember back in the 90's in highschool. We were sharing the game and updates on burned CDs. And having LAN parties in computer lab. Because only about 1 in 10 people had CABLE modem, back then, LAN was the only way to play. If you tried playing on 56k or DSL, you'd have 500 ping instead of 5. The computer lab had speakers built in to the computer with admin settings set so you COULDN'T turn the volume off. So that way teachers near by could hear if someone one was doing something in C-Lab that they weren't supposed to. We couldn't wear headphones because we had to hear if a teacher was coming. So we found old 3.5mm headphones and cut the 3.5 mm jack piece off so we could plug it into the computer and use it as a computer mute key.

these maps actually saw A LOT of play on 2015 CSGO casual. People actually only play on camps hostage map like Italy, Office, Assault. Good ol times, brings back nostalgia

I don't care if it's not a good map competitively. Assault was such a fun map to play.

Dude assault was THE BEST in 1.3->1.6. So good. The Source and GO versions were kinda weird.

I remember playing militia and we were behind 1-14 on ct side, and won without much poblems on t side. One of the funniest games i ever played

Rescuing hostages in militia feels like a rescue from movies where you silently walk to the house to get the hostage. It feels so fun before playing with friends.

On one hand, I'm glad counter-strike has proven to be so successful. But on the other, as a casual player who only ever enjoyed the games for their surface-level team interactions and gameplay, I hate how sweaty and competetive-focused it's become. It's a time I can only get back to by playing against bots because anyone who plays CS these days is either playing a specialised minigame, an old fightyard, or has committed all competetive strats to memory and isn't fun to fight against. Ah well, C'est la vie. I've still got Team Fortress 2... for now at least.

I like how these maps had an actual idea behind them, instead of just blowing up some boxes in some random corridors. Assault and militia are actual places where a hostage situation could occur

Now, you can only find this sort of enjoyment on community servers. And as someone who runs a CSGO community, I can say without a doubt that Valve has done many things to kill off community servers. I understand why they focus all their efforts on the competitive scene, as that's what brings in the money... But, without the community, Counter-Strike would not exist. It's a shame, and it really really really bothers me more than it should. I've sent a number of emails to Valve about updates they've released that have broken features on community servers, requiring us to make workarounds that just aren't very good. I've not received a singly reply from Valve to date. I hope one day they get their heads out of their asses, and start listening to the community again. Competitive cs is fun, but community servers are where the friendships are built.

I remember absolutely loving CS:CZ's weird campaign mode thing where you chose bots to fight on your team and fought against surprisingly competent bots (I am/was too bad for multiplayer), and these maps are familiar because of that lmao

We need more games with a casual focus. Even Halo is going too competitive.

Italy was by far the most played competitive 'CS' map back in the pre1.6 days. Was actually not that bad. The current meta lacks personality and character which is exactly what old school CS had in spades. Butthurt sweaty zoomers just don't get it because competitive 5v5 has no soul. Great video. Lots of nostalgia.

I quit a few years ago and was honestly shocked to hear that cobblestone was removed. Actually really liked that map

Short dust works for wingman by centering the bombsite, giving both sides several options for wingman "rotates" (ie outflanking) while still having 3 main lanes for initial contact. This was, of course, never a possibility for a 5v5 full-size de_dust. Somehow, way back when, we still managed to have reasonably close CAL matches on both de_dust & de_aztec. I guess no one really knew how to play Counter-Strike in the modern sense yet.

Ah man the good ol' maps...Remember Italy? The fighting in the hostage house...rescuing all the hostages and going back to spawn and there are people spawn camping...and even if you kill them and successfully go to the rescue point, just to find out one of the hostages glitched and got left behind jumping on some random box lol.

Assault is definitely a throw back, it was unique because it gave it that swat room clear feel with different entrances but the problem with that was mainly Terrorist side had a hell of an easy time defending since you can simply just assign certain spots to be defended with little to no effort 😅

Militia and Assault were great, we mained these maps when everyone in our friend group still played

Man the good old days. Hopping on De_Aztec and hearing people going crazy on voice chat and laughing my ass off.

I was a bit young at the time realistically but I remember Assault being one of the most popular/played maps in the internet cafe I would spend time to with my friends. What a trip down memory lane. I also remember Survivor being really popular alongside that one mini game map where you would play dodgeball with nades at the beginning, can't remember the name...

this was a great nostalgia! Please do this once in a while!

there used to be _so_ many fun maps in the beginning .. prodigy, bahrain, backalley, thunder, survivor, italy, winternights, siege .. as a kid I didn't care about strategy or balance or whatever .. I had too much fun just playing.

On Assault. If you stand by the train station with a scoped weapon (and scope in). You can see people who are at the top of the ladder inside the vents.

Mansion is the map I miss the most. Its not great balance, but that kick the doors in raid feeling is very cool as a CT.

assault, safehouse, bank, lake, St Marc, Sugarcane..... I just realized how much i miss these maps....

Aztec is like home to me. I miss these old maps, wish Valve would just double the map pool size. People that don't want them don't play them anyway. Let us have fun Valve

Assault was so good in CS:S! With the big community servers, it definitely didn't play like a regular cs map, it was more like a tug of war between the teams trying to find opening picks without over exposing themselves, until there were few enough Ts that the CTs could actually manage to breach the building.

We need a cs thats purely for fun, like no comp gamemode, just war games and a revamped system for community lobbies. Also social ltm's like one in the chamber and stuff.

I've recently started playing Cs Go again for some downtime fun, been enjoying the nostalgia of assault, office and malitia. I'm happy old maps are making a return, as I honestly thought CS GO was all about sweat and skins. Like you it takes me back to my teenage years of playing CS instead of doing homework. Lots of fun.

Ahhh, my favourite mappool! Heart and soul of a significant portion of my playtime. Assault is to this day five years after its removal the map I played the 6th most rounds on...

Those maps captured to reason we loved CS so much in old days - have fun along with friends or other people on public servers. Nowadays trolls, cheaters and try hards make basically impossible to simply enjoy the game and make you either rage or go try hard mode. P.S. that's why I play casual MM for hostage or sigma group maps

Man this takes me back to the source days on the casual servers with like 20 different maps in rotation. Good times just chillin. I miss the chill vibes sometimes of going into your regular community server, seeing familiar names in the server and having a good time with strangers that you definitely shared, if nothing else, one thing in common with.

I love these maps, I remember playing Assault and Militia over and over again. Because they were the only maps where me and my Sawed Off had even a chance to compete.

I used to be a frequent on 24/7 assault servers on 1.6. My first few competitive games on csgo were on assault. This makes me happy

Oh wow this is the first time I am hearing about this. I think when they removed them is when I took a long break from playing! Those maps are really nostalgic for me and I miss them but I understand why they got removed. Brought me back to just hanging out with friends and having fun after school. RIP

If WarOwl killed Cobble, then i have a theory about his motives. I think WarOwl could've done this to ultimately end the supply of Cobblestone collection skins and Souvenir packages, so the price would inevitably multiply over and over again. This is some WarOwl mastermind detective shit

I miss Maps like Militia or Assault because they really were different to the ones we normally played and we liked to play on them every few weeks :) We really loved the casual like funny rounds on militia, the days when you could had fun in matchmaking without all the full competetive-focused players and maps were extremely fun

Damn I miss cs_assault and office on 1.6 and source. The CT side was truly a test of skill trying to coordinate pushes or pick enough people off to push in properly.

Oh the days of returning from school, logging into IRC and MSN and loading up on old school CS (1.1-1.6) and running around like headless chickens (or rats) on militia, aztec, dust, 747, Italy, ratz etc was some of the best days. Would be great to see you do all this but on really early versions of CS like 1.5

yea as primarily a pub player back in the day I really enjoyed the cs_maps. could be frustrating as ct but it was a fun challenge to try to win as many rounds as you could. I've definitely done quite well as ct on assault and office. team had to be significantly more skilled than the t's to pull that off, but it did happen sometimes.

Militia is a very meaningfull map for me. I started on CS 1.5 playing this map with my cousin and some bots for hours and hours and hours. Such awesome memories. Damn i miss all those maps sometimes, even if they werent made for competitive scene, they were fun to play for sure :). Thanks for the video ;)

When I started playing it was cs online which is 1.6 with p2w and zombie mode and I had a blast playing tdm on assault , Italy and dust2

My favorite removed map has got to be de_thrill. Amazing scenery and good gameplay

cs_militia and cs_assault was awesome back in the days. Another public server fav was de_prodigy. basically ct spawn had two ways, long/sniper and short booth where you had to crouch jump through a window like in cs_office. one of my favs for sure.

Next do competitive Counter-strike, but the maps are inverted vertically ( I really wanna see Warowl vomit hard on film xD)

"Aztec is back" in the thumbnail got me really hyped and I even wanted to download CS:GO to play that map, never do that again dude. Aztec is one of the most iconic map in Counter-Strike history, obviously the rest of the maps are great too, I have great memories with all of them, deleting them makes so much sense with Valve never making Half-Life 3, Portal 3 and Left 4 Dead 3, Valve simply hates whatever they're doing... Making the players happy
