MINIAC MEAT GRINDER INFORMATION:
1. As stated in this video, there is 1 category. The category is SINGLE FIGURE, ANY GENRE. 95% of the figure must be under 50mm. If the tip of a dude's sword is sticking out, it's OK. If you're concerned about your entry comment below with a picture of your mini next to a ruler and I'll give you a yay or nay. Pick just about any 28mm scale mini and you should be golden. The plinth + the mini cannot be taller than 100m in total height. The base area cannot be greater than 75mm x 75mm or if a circle, greater than 75mm in diameter (yes I under stand that's not the same area, but if I asked you to calculate area, there'd be a riot on my hands).
2. Take a picture of your entry UNPAINTED with a piece of paper next to it that has written on it: "Miniac Meat Grinder 2018". If the mini is already assembled, and primed, that's OK. SAVE THIS PICTURE. Paint your miniature. Make an awesome base. Then, take a SINGLE PHOTO of your final paint job. Pick whatever angle you think is the sexiest. YOU NEED TO FINISH BY JUNE 30TH. This gives you 2 whole months. Submit all the information here: goo.gl/forms/9...
3. I will create an online gallery where anyone and everyone can vote on their favorite miniatures. Everyone's miniature will get into the online voting. The miniatures to receive the top 10 most votes will move onto the next stage. The 10 final contestants will submit MINIMUM four photos to me of each side of the miniature and anything else you want to show off.
4. A panel of 5 judges will rank your submission. They will judge on three categories. Technical Skill, and Artistic Skill. To read definitions of these two, see how Crystal Brush defines them: www.crystalbrus... . We will be using these metrics. A final and additional category will be Basing Creativity, which is straightforward. Each category will be rated out of 10. All of the judges scores will be added up for all 3 categories and the highest rated entrants will win 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies and bragging rights!

I have to say that you do an amazing job with these videos. 1. The script makes sense. 2. Your wise beyond your years. That coming coming from a 56 year old. 3. Great production sense. 4. Humor always adds to the fun factor of watching these. 5. I'm hearing impaired and I can always understand what you and your guests say that is huge for me! 6. You know that it's always about improving. Either production quality with better EQ or with the painting you do! Congrats keep you the great work!

Woah I didn't know you had done that whispering chaos burned-face lady. I LOVE that. Trying to think where I recently saw that. I'd say this channel but I think I saw it online. Either way: great job! I could totally see that (scaled down of course) as part of a cultist army. And God don't we need that stuff anyways: I've wanted to make a diverse non-Space Marine Cultists force for a while now with a mixture of the classic militarized cultists with things like possessed civilians of which that would be perfect. And Beastmen.

Great advice with the exception of the mindset of losing a painting competition. Setting realistic expectations and achieving small victories would serve you much better than the “I told you so” moment if you didn’t win. The fact your entered is a massive accomplishment already

I think you have a point, I've just seen so many people who have expected to win and harbored that feeling rightfully so, but ended up not and being very upset. It's difficult to have realistic expectations in a world that isn't quantifiable like a painting competition where we're trying to rank stuff. Better to aim low and not be upset in a case like this I think.

I've only very recently got back into painting, and your channel has been an awesome guide, ATM times are Abit tight so I'm repainting old minis from 5-8 years ago. However I've noticed just from experience gained through watching that I'm better then I was and getting better everyday. I'm determined to enter your competition :) thanks again for all the advise and instruction, it's worth more then all the brushes, paints and kits money can buy.

I want to participate so badly just to see, how good my minis look to other guys that are a lot longer in than me (I’m now in for 1 year), and the good thing is, that I don’t care about winning, just how they judge it.

nice video, Painting everyday is a bit of a rough advice I think it is good to take a break day and a research day in a week, almost like a weekend in a work week. Muscle memory is one thing but exhausting yourself is another! I am looking forward to entering this magical world of painting minis again for sure!

Probably worth mentioning, check who is judging and what their preferences tend to be. Crystal Dragon in Australia for instance is notorious for having judges who share a particular aesthetic and style preference aswell as a dislike for anything GW

I used to work at a major music venue. We were working close enough that we could hear some of the performance. At one point Nickelback was playing, and everyone wanted to leave as soon as possible.

Some tips on how to take it more seriously: As with most skills, you have to be mentally fit to get better. If you get less than ~7 hours of sleep, you won't learn shit from what you're doing. Be well fed (but not overly so) before you start painting. Don't eat and paint at the same time, you need to concentrate. If you're having an off day, don't paint, go for a walk and leave the painting behind for the day. Same goes if you've got something on your mind that you should be doing instead. Make sure your work desk is in order, that you have good light, plenty of space for everything you need and that it isn't cluttered to all hell. Pick out some music for painting and figure out whether you need energetic or calming music. These things and many more go for most things in life you want to be good at. You have to take care of yourself in order to apply your very best to whatever you're doing.

So I have this miniature I am considering for the competition, and it is a man on horseback with a Lance pointing staight up. Everything except the large Lance is below five millimeters. That should be good, right? Also, will my entry not work if I add a rather large flag to the lance?

generally need glasses for everything, but I think I might be nearsighted enough to paint without. I mean that I am, not just think I am. because its impossible with this astigmatism to bring things close to my eyes with glasses on because one eye will always decide to be the dominant and then there is gonna be headaches. but I look back into that in 20 years and check if I need glasses to see far and glasses to see close.
