This guide provides a basic overview of how to play every role in competitive Tribes 3: Rivals, from Flag Defense to Chaser to Midfield to Clearer to Capper. I'm far from the best Tribes player, but I've played every Tribes game since Tribes 1 (25 years!!!) and have played 30+ hours of competitive pickup games in the Tribes 3 Playtests so far and have some wisdom to share!

Note: Prophecy has made some substantial changes to the perk system so things have shifted in terms of inventory loadouts. That said, the fundamentals remain the same. But I may have to create a new version of this soon to get up to date if people want it! LMK :) ~fishy

Awesome video Fishstix and as someone that just started playing with the updated role/perk system I’d appreciate an updated video but understand a lot of the fundamentals still carry across.

It'll be interesting to see if Midfielder sticks around in the longterm when maps (hopefully) get wider/larger so it isn't easy for a single person to spot both sides of the map simultaneously.

Absolutely, great point. I don't think you want to pay midfield on Dangerous Crossing for example. t3's more narrow map designs are a major reason why this role works.

Been really liking the game so far. I grew up playing Tribes and Tribes 2, Renegades Mod was my favorite. Miss the sniper rifle.

I am disappointed that there is no section dedicated to the finer points of generator disassembly and the PvE content that is taking out the radar.

Is there room for a No 6? The Distractor. The distractor is a mostly bad player who tries to put you off your game. He likes to tickle the enemy HoF to distract him, so your capper can score the flag without challenge. Or, he tickles incoming enemies to put them off their cap run. Would like to think this is a legit way of playing the game, because it is the best I can do, so far.

tbh it is! a good clearer isn't necessarily always getting a kill, but distracting at the right time! keep up the tickling

Lol yeah my skiing is pretty crap in this vid, was just messing around trying to get this done in a single take. Watch my pug recordings where I cap against stacked teams of tribes vets if u wanna see the real deal 🤝

the devs need to fix the projectile speed and also the light spinfusor shots with a small delay...i dunno but thats how it feels for me and im a tribes player from back in the days

i'm having an absolute blast playing, despite it not being my "perfect" tribes game, tribes is back. also, they're looking at reducing projectile sizes in the next patch apparently!

Hmmm. I think you need to just play a lot of games. Watching other streamers and matches on RU-vid could also help.

would be nice if heavy wasn't an automatic win in every 1v1 and had to actually pay for their excessive armor and overpowered weapons

Fond memories of the original Starsiege Tribes. I recall playing Engineer and setting up turrets and shields... as well as trying to place mines on ski routes. If I recall correctly, wasn't there also an EMP turret. I've always wished it would come on console.
