Back in the day we only had 7 channels. Mod Squad, wild wild west, Bonanza, riffle man, Big Valley, Streets of San Francisco, All in the Family, Star Trek and so much more. 7 channels was a blessing compared to the crap we have now and it was free. Can I go back to the 70's? life was so much better.
Exactly. "Sanford and Son" -- What a testament to good writing -- timeless; good writing never goes out of style/fashion; skilled performers in a true ensemble who brought magic to the screen, good directing keeping everything in check and, God bless 'em, the LIVE audience*, elements that combined together did bring people to joyful tears A HALF CENTURY AGO. It still plays well for those 'who were there' in the joyful era of the three-network universe, those 'of a certain generation' AND legions of younger, new viewers who thank their lucky stars for cable, RU-vid, DVD boxed sets, etc. showing "Sanford and Son." *no laugh track necessary
In life, they actually both loved one another dearly. I'll never forget seeing LaWanda Page entering the funeral home when Redd Foxx passed, she was inconsolable, and people were literally dragging her into the building as she sobbed uncontrollably. She always said that if it weren't for Redd Foxx, she would've never been in show business, and she felt extreme gratitude for him opening doors for her. May both of their souls R.I.P. for an eternity...🙏🏼...
Yeah...I don't remember which one, but there was a time when they were actually thinking about either writing the Aunt Esther character out altogether, or replacing Lawanda with someone else for the part, and Redd Foxx threatened to quit if they did it, so yeah they were close. I think I heard Lawanda say before that they went to school together.
@@jamesorsby7553 Yeah, I remember hearing that story about potentially replacing her as well, for what reason(s), God only knows. They met as preteens as I remember, in St. Louis, Missouri...
@@ShawnC.T. I can't even begin to imagine Sanford and Son without Lawanda Page aka Aunt Esther. Had the powers that be stupidly did what they wanted to do, the show would have ended prematurely. Maybe that's what they wanted...idk.
@@jamesorsby7553 We should all be thankful that it never happened, it would've been one of the biggest travesties in the history of television, had it been allowed to happen...
i cannot count the numerous times we were gathered around the tv to watch Sanford and Son, and it never disappointed. i have never heard my father laugh so hard until then. great times and great memories growing up in the 70s. RIP to all those that have passed on and a special thanks to all of you for the joy and laughter you brought to the world.
Let’s all keep Sanford & Son alive. One of the best shows ever. Demond Wilson (Lamont) should have won awards for not laughing at his TV father. Just absolutely brilliant acting.👍Aunt Esther is great as well.
But I’m still dead at the line “Body was blessed by Mother Nature “....hahaha But when i was in high school and this girl said u know u jealous u just mad cuz I’m fine as a Georgia pine, and my boy said You mean u as big as a Georgia pig.....hahaha
I don't care how the year's passes by Fred Sanford is still a funny show to watch even in 2021 when you down and out you can always watch Fred Sanford for good laughter ♥️ still love it today
And Hammond LaWanda Page just gelled they just they made it I don't know what would have been in without her in there that would have been that chemistry she was just sensational
She was a professional strong and resilient actress to realize so many jabs at her character's looks and role...however she STILL played her part well......without insult but pride which I think made her extremely beautiful than most. This made her more beautiful to me .
@@ronniecopley3847 NO. She led quite a life, a life of contrasts including a vulgar standup comedy act, then turning to religion later in life. She and Redd were apparently childhood friends, he turned to her because he believed she could make "Aunt Esther" come to life. He was right.
Lawanda and Redd spent many years in show business working together and being apart. They has a long history together and Redd helped out his old friend by bringing her on the show. I can't imagine anyone else playing the part of Aunt Esther.
The wince on his face before he said, "somebody better call the zoo". He really tried to say something nice but it was too strong for him 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. One of the greatest shows of my childhood
Absolutely I am 42 years old and I watch Sanford and son every single day on my lunch break at work. One of my most favorite episodes is when Esther was at the house and Fred walked through the front door and he was drunk and Esther said and I quote, look at you pants all baggy you just a messy fool, and Fred replied oh yeah well you just a sessy pool first time I saw that I laughed so hard I farted twice and I peed a little bit.. you just a sessy pool. Lmmfao
I still watch Sanford n Son to this day. It's good to be able to laugh your heart out because it gives you some "me time" to relax the mind and kno that you can enjoy the moments spent watching his show. It's the funniest show on TV because laughing is good for the soul. Thank you, Red Fox. May you rest in Peace.
Like everyone else who very correctly realizes, this show hasn't diminished in relevance or attitude. This is a timeless classic. Lawanda & Redd are long gone, but their contribution to the medium of sitcom TV is firmly cemented. Fred & Aunt Esther will continue to tickle our funny bones for generations to come. That's a helluva legacy.
Man they bring back so many great memories of my childhood and growing up. Television 📺 was pretty special back then. This show entertained me for years .. I love ❤ this show
What a lovable interaction of humor. I grew up watching this sit com. It feels like family to me. I wish Fred could come back to make sense of this tumultuous world we live in today .
Fred once said, “When Esther was a little girl, a man drove up beside her, and offered her some suckers to get UNDER his car.” I’m done every time I hear that! RIP to Lawanda Page and Redd Foxx.
One hilarious show! Personal favorite: Esther: " Well, we've got inner beauty' Fred " You got what?" Esther " We got inner beauty.' Fred " Well you better put your liver where your face is!"
With Esther and Fred in the same room with one another, you know it's gonna be a verbal warfare taken place. Poor Esther would literally walk in to Fred's insults Lol!!!!! Gotta love em,,,,,,,, R.I.P. to them both 🕊🙏🏽❤
IF only we still had brilliant comedies like this still on television! I loved the episode when she gave Fred a concussion with her steel plated Bible 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Funniest duo ever, Fred and Aunt Ester. In real life they were best of friends. Best show about my people ever!!! Love all both of them and thanks for all the laughs!!!!
They threw some of the greatest insults at each other in one episode Fred told Esther I could stick your face in some dough and make Gorilla cookies 😂😂😂
That was the episode where Fred was sick in bed after eating some 8-day-old collard greens! Fred exaggerated his illness, thinking he was on his deathbed. Aunt Esther showed up to see Fred. Lamont: 'Hey Pop! Guess what?' Fred: 'The buzzards are circling over the house?' Lamont: 'Nope, you've got company.' In walks Esther and.... Fred: 'OH no! The head buzzard is IN the HOUSE!'.
Little know fact: The producers of Sandford & Son thought that LaWanda Paige could NOT act. They wanted to re-cast that role. But ReddFoxx threatened to quit the show if they didn't let LaWanda stay on as Aunt Esther. #truth
Redd Fox the ultimate king of comedy. You know this man is iconic, when 40 years later, new generations are enjoying his work. Plus, you can see Redd’s influence on so many other comedians.
LaWanda Page is my favorite! She deserves to be more recognized these days. I've begged Funko to continue their Sanford and Son line of Pop's with an Aunt Esther Pop. But so far only Fred And Lamont. Of course they deserve recognition too but Aunt Esther is my favorite comedienne ever.
My favorite was still when the guy said he was LaMont's real dad, and even though Lamont and Fred said it didn't matter, Esther had a fit and said that is a slander against her pure sister Elizabeth. So she insisted on him explaining when and where this conception happened. He said he climbed in a window to a bedroom, but it turned out that that was Esther's bedroom. The look on Fred and Lamont's faces were priceless. And the audience howled with laughter so loudly that they could hardly finish the scene.
If you are feeling a little down, just look at a episode of Sanford and Son...guarantee you will be feeling better after watching it. They all have great onscreen chemistry😄
Fred: Goodbye Deer! Esther: Oh you called me dear! Fred: Why shouldn’t I call you deer? You look like Bambi’s father! Fred: You Ol Weasel Eyed Heathen! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💀💀💀💀💀
FRED: goodbye dear. ESTHER: Aw, you called me dear FRED: why shouldn't I call you deer? You look like Bambi's father. ROTFL, gets me everytime!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
