I didn't think it would end this way. ....... End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Not passing your Exams is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.
Some people think fellowship is the best Some people think towers is the best But we can all agree that the ride of the Rohirrim at minas tirith is the greatest scene in cinematic history
Peter Jackson had in mind the ride of the Polish Hussars against the Turkish army which had laid siege to Vienna when he came up with the Rohirrim charge. Same level of epicness, and same battlefield results. The Turks had basically no chance.
Anyone on Earth could listen to just a small part of this, and instantly recognize it as the soundtrack for the LOTR trilogy. Now THAT is a job well done, if you ask me.
This trilogy is one of those where even if you have watched it 100 times and it has come again on the television, you would still watch it whilst quoting favourite scenes 👌🏼
I recently watched the extended trilogy with cast commentary again like it was the first time 😂. It was heaven being immersed in this world that Tolkien created !!!
While I agree with your sentiment, I could never watch such epic movies on broadcast television. Every 15 minutes there's ads for cheap Chinese made garbage, dick-pills, diarrhea pills, tampons, more drugs, then news about another junkie overdosing, another pill ad,.. that goes on for 10 minutes.. then while the movie is being shown, you have even more ads for other shows and channel logos floating around on the bottom of the screen for at least 5 minutes. Not to mention the movie itself is chopped all to hell to make room for all of that garbage, and chopped even more to fit in the time slot. No man, I'd never watch this on tv. I have all three LOTR Extended edition movies onDVD, and watch them on my computer with it's 36 inch monitor and surround sound system. No ads, no limp dicks, no periods, no pills, no loose bowels, no "diabeetus", no Chinese junk, no dead junkies, no politics nothing interrupting these epic movies.
@@Cammi_Rosalie Cammi I completely agree. Commercials and ads utterly destroy my immersion in a movie such as LOTR. I can also never go back to the theatrical cuts. The extended editions are sooo much better. Watching LOTR on tv will only cause frustration because every time there are commercials I will rage like fuuuuuck.
Mother: *Holding new born for first time* You have my eyes. Father: And my smile. Aragorn: You have my sword. Legolas: And you have my bow. Gimli: And my axe. Nurse: Can we get security in here please, they're back again.

Have you ever seen it, Aragorn? The White Tower of Ecthelion, glimmering like a spike of pearl and silver, its banners caught high in the morning breeze. Have you ever been called home by the clear ringing of silver trumpets?..........One day, our paths will lead us there and the tower guard will take up the call: The Lords of Gondor have returned.
Tolkien died in the year 1973, let that sink in, 1973 3 rings for the elvenlord under the sky 7 for the dwarves in their halls of stone 9 for mortal men 1 for the dark lord on its dark throne in mordor where shadows lie 1973
"Hold your ground! Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers! I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship…but it is not this day. An hour of woes and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down. But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand, men of the west!"
Cptn Hero Game of Thrones is terrible. It has no soul. There’s no transcendental spirit that Tolkien’s works had. I’ve read both, and The Lord of the Rings moved me to near tears. ASoIaF never did that.
@@davidcross9811 i understand that, i cried so much....and i was shivering in cinema on Lotr...but GoT was a very good tv show on its own, i mean...i found it boring at the start...but the white walkers seemed to be interesting and the characters were quite complex...but the last season was utterly shit.....if you compare it with lotr its like the rohirim and gandalf helping with helms deep and the evil and story is finished...its like a whole buildup for literally nothing
Every time I listen to this music, I find myself wanting to either watch the Extended editions again, and/or play Third Age - Total War. Hell, maybe do both at the same time.
MelodiousSteven i agree,i had 3 original disks and 2 codes for bfme 1 and 2 and 1 code for rotwk i have original return of the king game and shitty war in the north and ill buy shadow of mordor
What was great in 2001-2003 was being somebody who had read the books long ago but realizing that for many/most of the people in the audience, especially the younger ones, this would be the first time they had encountered any given moment from the story. When I heard the horn of the Eorlingas sound out across the Pelennor Fields, I grinned to myself, knowing what was about to unfold and how epic the audience would find it. Ride for ruin indeed.
12:00 I can't watch the fires of Gondor lit without crying! And when Aragorn runs into the Golden Hall and brings this plea for aid before Theoden, I always hold my breath until he answers. I know he is going to say yes - but just imagine, what would have become of Middle Earth, would he refuse…
“Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden! Fell deeds awake, fire and slaughter! spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered, a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor!” ― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Return of the King

“Sam: I wonder if we'll ever be put into songs or tales. Frodo: [turns around] What? Sam: I wonder if people will ever say, 'Let's hear about Frodo and the Ring.' And they'll say 'Yes, that's one of my favorite stories. Frodo was really courageous, wasn't he, Dad?' 'Yes, my boy, the most famousest of hobbits. And that's saying a lot.' Frodo: [continue walking] You've left out one of the chief characters - Samwise the Brave. I want to hear more about Sam. [stops and turns to Sam] Frodo: Frodo wouldn't have got far without Sam. Sam: Now Mr. Frodo, you shouldn't make fun; I was being serious. Frodo: So was I. [they continue to walk] Sam: Samwise the Brave...” ― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Two Towers
There are prominent literary scholars who suggest that The Lord of the Rings is "The Tale of Sam" not quite literally, but as he, even more than Frodo, grows the most during the adventure. He is the only character that is able to return to his life essentially as it was in the shire after the adventure. He reflects the same sort of condition many people face when their entire world is proven to be far more complex and threatening than they could have ever imagined. In war, many lose everyone they love, and nothing could ever mean the same to them. Whether for good or ill, one's life can change irreversibly after tremendous events. It did so for Sam, and no matter how much he may desire it, he can never go back to the life he had before. He became his own man while traveling with Frodo. They will certainly sing songs about Samwise the Brave
Nerd - Man I agree. My point was that the quote in the original comment was attributed to Tolkien. To ny knowledge such quote is not present in the books, and as such should not be attributed to Tolkien but to the screenwriter or the movie
@@nerdman8428 Yes, I like Sam the most, more than Froddo. As far as the movie goes. Sam seemed to be more of a coward and fool in the begining, but he probably had the largest character arch. And he gave back the one ring.
@Ithaca, it's in The Two Towers, The Stairs of Cirith Ungol, pp 321-322. As usual, however, Peter Jackson saw fit to alter it (Tolkien's words not being good enough for him) so it ended up a weakened corruption of what it ought to have been. For example, Sam didn't proudly repeat to himself Frodo's 'Samwise the brave'. It wasn't even Samwise the brave but Samwise the stouthearted.
this beautiful triligy played in my theaters this week, as to celebrate 20 years since the release of the Fellowship of the Ring. Still as good as the first day. This incredible saga goes beyond perfection: the story, characters, music, casting, acting, directing, special effects, everything still holds up and in fact far surpases many of modern productions. these movies are, by all accounts, master pieces.
These movies have a nostalgia that I can’t describe. Takes me back to the good old days. The days of freedom with no worries or sorrow. Like running through and open field with the sun shining on your face, and the stream in the forest gleaming and shimmering.
It is because you were young(er) at that time... and more focused on positive things. It is not the "times" that change, it is US that change! In 20 years there will be people talking about today like that.
“I do not love the bright sword for it's sharpness, nor the arrow for it's swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend”
Agreed. It's such a beautiful quotation. However, (not to be a jerk or anything) you did incorrectly use the apostrophe. It should be "its" instead of "it's." Possessive "its" has no apostrophe, because the apostrophe indicates a missing letter (for names, it comes from the Anglo Saxon. If we were to talk about Faramir's sword, there would have been an "e" in "Faramir's," making it "Faramires." The apostrophe indicates the missing "e"). However, "it's" means "it is." So the correct quotation would be, "I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend." And please remember, I'm gently correcting you, not trying to be rude.
Moati Cox Without reading the book or even watching the film beforehand, one can predict Boromir was going to die, since he was plagued by Sean bean's unfortunate nature of dying in every single movie.
Watched that only once too. Meh. I watch barely any movies these days. And if I do it's old ones. Everything's plastic these days. I won't even waste my time on it.
Skyler Hackett i had a dream i had to get to Minas Morgul to stop the WitchKing before he sent the orcs to attack Minas Tirith i remember my sword and everything

That was the best part about the Hobbit Movies!^^ A Cinema where i live showed every LotR Extended with 10 min Breaks between Films... It was great to see them again on a big screen, made a bigger let down for the Hobbit Movies but i am still for that, just show LotR every 2-3 years in Cinema and there are people wanting to watch them again!
198 this is getting out of hand WE MUST HOLD THE LINE CALL OUR BROTHERS FROM ROHAN AND MASS CHARGE WERE THE LIVE RUN DOWN THEIR HOUSES WITH OUR SWAMS AND KILL THEN WITH ROHAN SPEARS AND MOST OF ALL DEFEAT THEM WITH TEAM WORK
There will be no more such movies like LOTR and the Hobbit. These are legendary and unforgettable movies, they are the kind of movies that you can watch 1000 times in your life and the impression and feeling they give you always stay the same and hits you a big punch in heart.
Kings made tombs more splendid than the houses of the living, and counted the names of their descent dearer than the names of their sons. Childless lords sat in aged halls, musing on heraldry, or in high cold towers asking questions of the stars. And so, the people of Gondor fell into ruin.
9:00 - "Forth, and fear no darkness! Arise! Arise, Riders of Theoden! Spears shall be shaken, shields shall be splintered! A sword day... a red day... ere the sun rises" - Man, I remember how emotional I felt when I watched this scene at the cinema for ROTK 10 years ago. I cried buckets. Such an impactful scene with great soundtrack which complemented the entire atmosphere. I miss those LOTR days from 2001-2003 when I'd look forward to every new LOTR installment in the cinema every December :')
Thank you for this. For me, Rohan's many themes are the most moving, and Gondor's the most powerful. Words cannot say how splendid it is to have a compilation of the variants of both themes!
Its the end of 2021, still we didn’t get a worthy opponent for LOTRs. And I doubt, anyone could ever beat this. The best movie series ever, the story, the music, the realistic acting everything. ❤️❤️
Omfg i can't take the nostalgia whenever rohan and gondor themes plays Damn i can retaste my choclate milk and honey i used to eat when i watched thise movies in a 2007 cozy summer night R.I.P My memories those were good days also 2007 was my fav year in my life
When i listen to this music, I want to cross uncrossable seas and mountains, I want to ride for the glory of Rohan and raise my sword for Gondor's true King... It makes me feel so epic...
Thank you so much for this! I've grown to love LOTR and the Hobbit over the past few years; anyone who has not seen it needs to stop what they're doing and go find out how you can watch it. If you can't, then go find the books!
Read the Hobbit at 6 , and read Lord of the Rings at 8 ! One of my favourite books, best story of all time! And the movies really do the books justice ( even if I don't agree with some of the changes, the movies still have the spirit of the books and that's the most important thing! )
Give some props to Peter Jackson too for adapting a fantasy series that everyone thought could never be faithfully adapted into film. And MAJOR props to Howard Shore for creating these amazing and unique memorable soundtracks.
George R. R. Martin would like to have a word... I think Tolkien is better at worldbuilding, but Martin is much better at character depth and development and plot. Then again, Tolkien was one of the reasons Martin started writing fantasy so no disrespect for John, Lotr is fucking awesome!
Yeah, Martin is great in terms of character development and its chemistry, but he was nowhere near Tolkien's prose and writing. No offense, though. They're both great writers.
Did you get it done?! Well done :p I think you might like some of music on my channel! You could try my newest piece The Sanctuary which is in the style of LotR. Let me know what you think? Hope you can subscribe! :)
Sure it should of been an organised combined coalition effort but I guess that wouldn't of made an as intense movie with the men and other good races of middle earth being the underdogs the entire trilogy. Regardless though the Steward who was head of the city at that time failed to prepare the defences or at least willingly call for aid from rohan much earlier than pippin did...
@@WhoBetterThanKanyon oh I follow what you’re saying, I just wanted to make a joke how it was a hearty speech followed by failure. Gandalf was yet another legendary character who failed much too often. I didn’t enjoy that aspect of the writing but then again as you say the underdog device was used. However I disagree. I think Sauron was the underdog as he had everyone else formed against him. It was the disarrayed unity and prideful hearts that ruined so much of the “races” and their struggle against him. If they just worked together from the beginning, which in the end they did, good writing, they would have succeeded long ago. It took a humble hobbit who had heart and spirit enough to get up among the bickering and complaining and finished the job. Man, what movies!
Music doesn't age the way same way graphics, visuals and such do. I think it is highly important to have a good soundtrack in your game/movie, something many triple A games and multi-billion dollar movies fail to do. Some example of game soundtrack that is just as good as it was years ago is Half-Life 2 and Shadow of the Colossus soundtracks. 2 of the most critically acclaimed games ever created. I can still imagine myself in the world of SOTC, with its eerie tones with the epic scale it puts you in, with it tacked on ancient Americas feel (Aztec, Mayan, Incan). Or me in the future where earth is repressed by the combine war-machine. I seem like some sort of messiah but at the same time realize the grim scale at which how hopeless it seem for humanity Some modern games have done alright like The Last of Us, but people do not understand how fantastic it can make your games movie and atmosphere.
Severus Snape: "You are late Mr Potter." Harry Potter: "A wizard is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to." Gandalf: "That's my boy !!!"

The Lord of the rings series is my most favourite films ever, nothing will ever come close to it in my opinion, I know nearly everything about it I just love it too much!
The Riders of Rohan kicked serious Orc butt! First at Helms Deep, then at Gondor and finally at the Black Gate! King Theoden's battle speech before the charge at Pelennor Field still sends shivers down my back "Ride now... ride! Ride for ruin and the world's ending!!!!!" Lord of the Rings FOREVER!!!! David.
How can all this epicness be translated into words?! Impossible. Although many years have passed, I have goosebumps every time I listen to it...can't help myself.
Not gonna lie , when I ride my horse in the feild I always put in my earphones and play this, people still wonder today why I charge up and down the feild screaming "FOR ROHAN" xD
+Sky Forrest Haha I can imagine you in a group of horse riders. "Riders of Rohan - Oaths you have taken..now fufill them all FOR LORD AND LAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" *rushes off into the distance :P
Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden! spear shall be shaken, shield shall be splintered, a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride now, ride now, ride! Ride for ruin and the world's ending! Death! Death! Death! Forth Eorlingas!
I've watched the movies so many times that I can picture in my mind the scenes that go with these tracks. Listening to the Battle of the Pelennor Fields is enough to cause goosebumps, even without the video!
The gondor theme is my favourite from the LOTR trilogy. I remember hearing it for the first time when I was 9 years old in 2003, and it was from a catalogue of ringtones for mobile phones :D From that day this theme has been very close to my heart
