This video is derived from five sources:
Part 1: The Nature of Experience (from my first book Maps of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief: jordanbpeterson.com/maps-of-m...)
Part 2: Some Axioms of the Christian Revolutionary Story (created for this video)
Part 3: Narratives and Sacrifice (taken from Rule 7: Pursue what is meaningful, not what is expedient, in my new book, 12 Rules for Life (jordanbpeterson.com/12-rules-...)
Part 4: On the Ark of the Covenant, the Cathedral and the Cross: Easter Message I (from my blog at jordanbpeterson.com/blog/)
Part 5: The Psychological Meaning of the Death and Resurrection of Christ: Easter Message II (an extended version of an Easter article I wrote for the London Sunday Times (bit.ly/2GEnC7B)
The idea of the death and resurrection has a psychological meaning, in addition to its metaphysical and religious significance. It can be thought of as part of the structure of narrative that sits at the basis of our culture. It includes elements of sacrifice (associated with delay of gratification and the discovery of the future) and psychological transformation (as movement forward in life often requires the death of something old and the birth of something new).
This five-part commentary is an attempt to explain such ideas in detail so that they can be understood, as well as “believed.”

As a teenager my Son suddenly started cleaning his room, soon after I saw your book on his bookshelf- 12 rules for life. He’d had a difficult childhood, lost his father to suicide aged 8. I’m happy to say he has just got a place at Harvard to study the final year of his Masters degree in Physics/Astronomy. Thank you!

Mr. Peterson I know that you'll most likely not see this, but thank you for helping me get my life back on track. I've started going back to school and I'm almost done with my degree. I am also struggling, and Mr JBP helps a lot, not least by sharing his own hardships, past and present, in the brave, matter-of fact , manly way he does. Everyone has to find her own way, and solve her own problems, because there is only one of you in the whole world, you are an in-dividual. I wish you comfort enough to get up and give yourself what you can of that which you need, and to ask for and get help with the parts you may not manage. I have started a self-help Cognitive Therapy book work (By Dr David Burns), not getting body-psychotherapy for a long time, and in dire need. I keep thinking my problems and state are too difficult to manage alone, and the book's examples are too simple to be my lighthouse in my dark. But evidently the method works, and I sense an improvement already, by the method of writing his excercises. Sth clarifying happens then, which doesn't in thinking only. Esp. in combi with his encouraging teaching and clients' success.

See, you need to find the liturgy, not find a sermon. The liturgy is much greater than the sermon in Catholic and orthodox tradition, because it is the doing that creates the thinking as dr Peterson talks about. The only way to learn the orthodox Christian faith is to go to the liturgy over and over, to do and contemplate and do more.

My life has literally been a living Hell for 7 years or so, with everything coming to a head last year when my dad drank himself to dementia at 59 years old. I lost my best friend and role model at 24 years old, my brothers being 20 seeing our dad hauled away in an ambulance after being found unresponsive. An interesting quote from C.S. Lewis that bridges Peterson's ideas with Christian thought. “Now the story of Christ is simply a true myth: a myth working on us the same way as the others, but with this tremendous difference that it really happened: and one must be content to accept it in the same way, remembering that it is God’s myth where the others are men’s myths: i.e., the Pagan stories are God expressing Himself through the minds of poets, using such images as He found there, while Christianity is God expressing Himself through what we call 'real things'.”

Jmndmb32 To answer your first question, I think it would be good for people themselves to research for answers first because I think it's a good habit for developing research skills, because most of the time you must find the answers for yourself... And glad you did! And for the Logos question: there is not really one clear explanation for the term Logos, it is so metaphysical term (metaphysics and metaphysical concepts in general are pretty vague and not specific), but in Peterson's discourse I think that he is talking about Logos as the 'Word' (In Genesis and John. 1:1) I'm sorry if I seemed a bit rude.

I don't understand how anyone can think Jordan Peterson isn't a misogynistic nutcase. Long before his disaster of an interview about women and makeup he's made odd and disturbing comments about women before. One about "do woman defend Islam because they want to be dominated by it" and another on the topic of women stepping out of line and being unhappy because of lack of motherhood. He's also batshit crazy. If he gets locked out of any of his accounts (because he forgot his password or someone else tried to log in too many times) he automatically assumes that Google or facebook is plotting against him and instead of just banning him they developed a master plan to occasionally lock him out of his accounts for an hour or so because that's so much more effective. He believes that Google intentionally fucks with search engine results for "postmodernist" reasons when in reality it's just an algorithm issue and every other search engine shows similar results, even the alternative "free speech" ones. But mister godlike professorcan't do 5 minutes of research to figure that out. I must also add that this delusional old fuck is quick to believe anything and everything on the internet if it fits his point of view. The amount of times this moron fell for a parody or a joke without bothering to check the source or do a quick Google search is astonishing. His following is like a rabid cult who willingly ignores all the ridiculous shit he's said and done and shoves their heads up his ass. They have to jump in to defend their daddy every chance they get, it's pathetic.

Jordan Peterson is an uber status quo, pro capitalist, who believes no axioms are possible without God, in Jungian pseudoscience, who thinks "intellectuals have been perverted", who's an in-the-closet Christian, who hangs out with climate deniers and denies global warming, who loves retweeting White Supremacists (and debunked global warming blogs), who thinks all postmodernism and taxonomy is a Marxist conspiracy, who can't handle taxonomy itself (too much chaos! Must retreat to simpler times!), who believes in cultural Marxism (an old antisemitic con), who repeatedly courts the alt right and Trumpites, who "struggles to find things of value in Islam" which is a "naturally warlike religion and whom feminists defend because they subconciously want to be dominated by men", who won't touch the fact that contemporary neocolonialism (oft waged by hyper Christians) is deliberately thwarting secularism in Middle Eastern nations by arming and funding islamo fascists and proxy terrorist groups (all for private profit), who thinks marriage should be kept sanctified from gays, and that sex should be enshrined in marriage (outside of marriage women will get raped), who misunderstands the Pareto law in an attempt to "naturalize" exploitation and poverty, who has a wrong and cartoonishly simple understanding of history and economics, who has no understanding of how money is created under capitalism, who can't tell the difference between John Wheeler's Participatory Anthropic Principle and the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics, who got famous for overreacting to a law which wasn't a law, who echoes the hysteria of trans-medicalist groups, criticises "poor methodology" while belonging to a field which epitomizes it, who would "oppose gay marriage if its what leftists want", who can't handle any contemporary findings in neuroscience or with regards to hard free will, and who behaves like a hilariously cranky old Republican or traditionalist.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

Oddly enough, a few years ago I had a beautiful mystical experience that convinced me of the existence of God / a transcendent reality. And yet, there was still something missing. I was still lacking direction and a framework for interpreting life, and motivation for taking on challenge. I was still sliding deeper into nihilism (hard not to when you're in contact with today's culture!). I found I couldn't go back to literal Christianity, but Peterson's Biblical series with its psychological and narrative approach has gripped me in a way no other philosophy has. The missing elements are here! I never expected I'd want to study the Bible. Thank you Dr Jordan Peterson! You've had a profound influence on so many people, God bless you.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Jordan Peterson. His humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewers head. There's also Peterson's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Dr.Jordan Peterson truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Peterson's existential catchphrase "Clean Your Room" which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenevs Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂 And yes, by the way, i DO have a Dr.Jordan Peterson tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

Take the next step - find a church. Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, whatever. Feeding your faith with JP's insights is a good thing to be sure. But having a church family (and it does become a family pretty quick) gives you a shield against the troubles of the world that you will come to love and lean on. Take your time, shop around. It took my wife and I years to settle on a church, but the time invested in shopping around was worth it.

I have watched as many of your videos / lectures / presentations as I can. Some twice or more. This style, where you are reading from your notes, I found dry and hard to stay engaged. I think if this was the first Jordan Peterson video I had ever seen, I would never have made it past 5 minutes, and would never watch another of your videos. I am saying this because I know you have people monitoring your youtube comments, and you would probably appreciate some constructive feedback. I am not a troll. I have been profoundly impacted by your lectures and I am so grateful for the work you have shared. This video made me understand WHY. In your other work, you drew me in. You told stories and anecdotes to explain these difficult concepts. You made it compelling and personal. This style of reading in a monotone, measured tone was like every bad professor that I ever had in University. It lacked your signature passion and conviction. I watched to the end, but only because I am a dedicated fan and knew that I would learn something and be glad for it; and I did. I look forward to your next video.

Do you not recognize the sacrificial archetype when you see it in front of you? Of course he shows the effects of a life lived to teach the Truth to everyone. He is genuine in his concern for the people of the world, and also in his search for knowledge. Those of us fortunate enough to be able to see and hear him in real time should appreciate this time in which we live; it will not last forever. While we can, let us appreciate this great man, whose life and message are a kiss on the forehead from God. I may be 3 years late to the party, but at least I finally got the memo, thank God!

I find the whole "Objects" VS "Action" dichotomy interesting, because I can see parallels to my product development classes as part of my Mechanical degree. We would often break down a product/machine, not into it's physical parts, but rather it's Actions. A bike kan be broken down into: Frame, seat, handles, pedals. Those things are solutions to actions though: "Holding everything together", "Place to sit/rest", "means of steering", "Means of propulsion" Of course sometimes an object has more than one action it fulfills, the handles and pedals are also "places to rest" parts of your body etc. This also becomes then an important factor that a bike-maker isn't making bikes. A Bike-maker is making "means of transportation".

Great video, as always. Just wanted to say -the picture of the mammoth cave art you show at the 20 minute mark is from Rouffignac in the south of France. I visited the cave as a kid and it was a truly amazing experience. To see art of woolly rhinos, mammoths, and cave lions drawn by people who had actually seen them - incredible! But more than that, the art is some of the oldest in the world, it's the first real signs of the emergence of modern human consciousness - the first somebodys trying to make sense of the world. I get goosebumps just thinking about it. If anybody gets the chance to visit France, I would highly recommend seeing the Rouffignac cave art.
