In the overwhelm of being new at something, it's easy to think we have nothing much to give. In today's video, I'm reminding you of all the things you've already done and learned about that can help you to learn your language. Because you have hidden advantages all over the place! You just need to recognise that they're there.
Who is this?
I'm Emily, Oxford graduate in Modern Languages and Linguistics, polyglot, and the tiny and colourful creator of The Language Confidence Project. My mission is to make language learning feel good, and to help you to work through all the doubts and frustrations that can throw you off along the way.

Thank you so much for the support and the welcome! :) I see that you have been on RU-vid for three years already! How's it been for you, and anything you wish you'd known at the start?

Thank you so, so much! What a lovely message to end the week! What language are you learning right now, and how is it going? :)

@@thelangconprojectpodcast I’m learning Georgian, randomly enough 😂 I’ve been learning for 3 years already (and added French in this year as well, just to make things more stressful!), but this week I’ve started learning a more advanced grammatical concept that no other language I know has an equivalent for, so I’m feeling somewhat like a beginner again and so this video was actually very helpful!

Unbelievably, you are the second person that's commented on my channel who's learning Georgian! This is incredible! Glad the video helped!

I agree. We need to lean on learning methods that work for us in language learning. The main thing to remember is that we are all on unique journeys in language learning. With over 8 million people on this planet, it would be very boring if we all followed the same pattern.

Yes, absolutely! We *need* to be on unique journeys because we come into language learning with unique bodies, unique brains and unique experiences AND unique goals! It's not a nice-to-have to recognise that, it's essential!

Can you talk about how to keep practising multiple languages? It can be quite overwhelming and time-consuming and it's easy to neglect the languages you practise the least

This is a great question! I'll see what I can do!
