The fact that all of us Cullen fangirls were practically begging Bioware both after DA:O and DA:2 to a) give him a bigger role and b) make him a romance option and they actually made our wishes come true will always make them the best in my book.
Well A) has been accomplished considering Bioware devs have stated he'll be getting another role in DA4. Depending on your canonical Cullen ending you've chosen, so either 1)He's mercy killed by Harding after succumbing to Lyruim Madness 2) he begins a Templar lyruim rehab establishment and swears to still serve the inquisition(wether you chose to shut it down or not) 3)You go through with marrying him and begin that Rehab center together as a couple. (And yes they are the best XD)
I can’t help but laugh and feel bad for that poor soldier who cockblocked Cullen right as he was about to kiss the Inquisitor. The look on Cullen’s face and his voice at that moment was priceless! 😂
45:45 I’m always imagining A funny chance that Cole and Iron Bull are just outside the window and the commentary goes.. Cole: He Stabs her but it doesn’t hurt. Never relenting, sometimes harder, sometimes slower, yet she feels no pain, only happiness. Iron Bull: Cole! Lower your voice kid, you’re gonna make me miss the best part!
@@ODST_Bailey when you go back to the broken tower and reach the top. He's in his safe bubble and says some harsh things if you choose to not do the rite of annulment
@@phospher3037 In DAO, Tower of the Circle mission: you find Cullen in a sort of energy shield, protecting himself from the blood mages, before the final battle. When he sees you, he thinks that you are a cruel illusion made to torture him for his "sin of loving a mage" and doesn't threat you exactly kind. There's where you find he had a crush on you, but you have to be a female mage.
57:23 when he told her to marry him I was shook, he always overthinks everything and gets super nervous, but saying that he was so sure.... then he got flustered again lol.
After being heartbroken by Alistair in Origins and having Anders pull his little stunt in DA2, I'm glad my protagonist finally succeeded in her quest for hot blond guys.
I manipulated the landsmeet and became the queen with Alistair as king, it was amazing and is still my canon playthrough despite playing origins dozens of times lol
@@samthevole very late reply but: I played as a dwarf and couldn't become his queen. 😭😭😭 He ended up sacrificing himself for me. Cullen so far has been a balm on my Ali-wounded soul.
Yeah thats why I romanced fenris in 2 Well that and I've learned not to stick my dick in crazy, and act 3 anders makes a sack stuffed with cats look positively sane
@@ashleyrod666Solas still loves Lavellan and i hope that BioWare is eventually gonna release the next game and make romance with Solas matter. I believe that EVENTUALLY he would give up on destroying the Veil if it meant that he can be together with Lavellan. He does not see this yet but there is a chance that he will.
@@hellstorm1682 That's what mods are for. One of my playthroughs I was a male elven mage who ended up being prince consort to the new king of Ferelden. Anyone else getting an absurd amount of enjoyment out of booting Anora out of the palace?
I started this game several times, promising myself not to romance Cullen every time but I can't keep myself away from him. I basically know this whole romance by heart but I still watch it 😅😂
I’m doing multiple play throughs, one for each romance. I did Cullen’s first and each time after that, when I see him I’m thinking I I wish I can flirt with him but I have to do the other romances.
Melissa DiCostanzo the last time I tried making different play throughs to romance different characters I accidentally erased my main one and my romance with Dorian went straight (not so straight) to the garbage. It still hurts whenever I remember that day...
This video is old but I came here trying to heal the old wounds from a shiny, two-faced egg; only to find every bit of the romantic moments ruined because of the background music. When that damned music plays-even though it’s Cullen being all sweet with the inquisitor on the screen, all I can see is that cursed ping-pong ball, leaving the Inquisitor, and her begging for him not to go.
The difference between Alistair and Cullen is this: Ali hated being a Templar. He was forced into it. He never saw mages as dangers. Cullen was the exact opposite.
Another difference: Alistair CLAIMS he’s awkward, then proceeds to be a suave motherfucker who makes all the ladies swoon. Cullen TRIES not to be awkward, then proceeds to trip over his cloak, knock several things off his desk, walks a chair, hits his head on the doorframe while trying to leave, and yet still makes all the ladies swoon.
It's not that Alistair never saw mages as dangerous. It's that he hated being a Templar because he felt like Arl Eamon, who had practically raised him, had abandoned him to the Chantry, and then felt bad about acting out over it. Also, he didn't like the stifling routine.
Yes, but they share the main things that made also Alistair adorable: they were raised in the Chantry, so they're shy, uneasy and so tender with love affairs; they fight for ideals, but off the mere Chantry rules and they make their decisions about the mages on their own; they suffer for their condition because of corruption/lyrium but accept it heroically... they're two sides of the same coin. I really like how they made Cullen evolve as character, I didn't find him much interesting before, but he was young, so many changes (after all the dead he saw, particularly) make much sense.
It's always weird for me to see romance scenes with the same person my inquisitor's dating, but with a different inquisitor XD It just don't feel right.
It seems like every year I come back and watch this just because I love the progression of Cullen's romance so much, but the interaction at 12:00 is probably my favorite moment out of the whole thing. He *knows* he has feelings for her and is dealing with the fact (and guilt) that she almost died at Haven, and you can see him soften so much, but he feels he can't act on any of it and looks away. The only thing he can do is promise that as commander he'll do better for the Inquisition when REALLY he wants to say he'll protect her. It's so cute but honestly makes the development of the relationship seem so natural.
I immediately understood his last line translating to "I'm not going to almost lose you again, I swear it" and it always gives me butterflies when seeing that scene >_
I made the mistake of going to talk to her to reconnect before I talked to Cullen. She ruined the surprise. Though she thought I was the one proposing, not him
Miranda Jones same! Although Alistair was a total goof ball. Loved him for being positive in many situations or joking around. I wish he was the brother I always wanted!
40:06 I like the conversation option where he gets into one of his ramblings and you have to stop him like.. "Cullen. You. Me. Here. Alone. Pretty Lake."
Rewriting the kissing scene: have the recruits casually walking around in the background stop when Cullen kisses her and burst out into cheer OR have one of them sneer at the other: You owe me 20 Gold, Jim!
I’ve enjoyed romancing Cullen so dang much but that little moment when you first get to Skyhold. It’s so precious. The way his voice drops like that. Whew. Lordy.
I experienced this romance for the first time a couple months ago, and I envy you now lol. If only I could go back and relive this magic for the first time...
Cullen’s my favorite character in this game. Super passionate when it comes to his relationship to the Inquisitor, and so serious when it comes to his job, AND able to get off of the lyrium without dying or going insane (when you make the right choices).
You ever see a character for the first time and immediately go That’s a romanceable character Edit: the paladin Danse of DA Edit 2: 21:15 I think I know who started it
When I saw the interaction between Cullen after seeing the Inquisitor and Iron Bull and hearing him chuckle and support them whole heartedly I knew he was worth the world
Romancing Cullen is like playing a thief in Skyrim for the millionth time. "Maybe I should try Josephine this time." Several hours later you end up kissing Cullen on the battlements again anyway. Oh well 😂
The animation in this game is incredible. The facial expressions at 18:30, 18:34, 20:02-20:05 and 20:09-20:11 are some of many examples. The Inquisitor sometimes look stiff or unnatural (specially if female, dunno why), but in general the animation is superb. I strive to be this good someday!
My issues with her are the lack of hair physics that were in DA2. Also her hands, their default position in cutscenes is probably supposed to be relaxed and open but they don't change enough. Female Inquisitor's walk in said cutscenes also feels a bit too unrealistic. I personally don't know any women who walk with their legs that far apart, and I feel like if I tried I'd feel off balance.
I love this romance, it has some of the most beautiful love scenes ever. When I heard him speaking about the hero of Ferelden as a lovely mage he had a crush on, I hugely smiled: I was a mage in Origins, so it seems to me like I'm playing myself this romance and it double-moves my heart. 😢❤️ I adore the first kiss scene, the way he sais that "WHAT?" and that poor attendant face. 😂
Bioware: Perfecting the animation of romantically stroking a characters face since 2006. "If your fingers aren't in their eyes or noses, you're doing it wrong."
I always saw Cullen as superman a goodie goodie boyscout with a questionable past but that look would make the joker shit his purple suit and sacrifice Harley so he can escape 😂
20:09 that is a genuine look of sheer rage I think we should check that scout isn't in a shallow grave... I give the same look when my ex shows up... 😂
Cullen is the best DAI romance but for lore purposes and continuing to the next game, I went with Solas/Mage/End Kiss scene because it all carries over into the next game
Actually, if you romance Anders, Hawke will mention him. The DA2 romance option also gets an "I'm sorry __" if you leave Hawke in the Fade, but you usually have to have subtitles on or it'll get lost in the background music and sound effects. If you let Anders live, then Sebastian will invade Kirkwall instead of helping the relief efforts. Plus, why would Hawke want to advertise that he/she was bedding the "abomination" that started the Mage-Templar war anyway?
I did that with my first play through so that'll carry over into DA4 whenever it comes out. I love the whole tapestry/world state mechanic. Makes for truly customizable gaming.
I wish for a new game that has romances like they put into Dragon Age, just so I can gush over new something new, not something I've watched like twenty times already. Romances in Dragon Age (and Mass Effect) are so wonderful. I mean, you get 1 hour of dialogue with Cullen here. 1 hour! You really get to know him, it's so exciting and interesting. As if you're really there, talking to him. It does feel natural? And healthy. It's just lovely.
If they make a Dragon Age Inquisition movie: this should be the canon romance. I somehow find it very poetic to have the inquisitor as a female and a mage, as mages at the time were seen as rebellious and untrustworthy. The inquisitor seeks to change that. And since Andraste is considered a female, it seems appropriate for the herald to be as well.
I think hurt/comfort from solas to rebound with Cullen because there’s so much from romancing solas that you get and i think a female elf mages should be the canon inquisitor
If I had to pick the character I think most deserves a happy ending it’d probably be Cullen. But how much must it kill him to be a battle hardened Templar and be unable to accompany you because you know his ass would be right there in the fade with you given the chance
Thank you dragon age for ruining all my past and future relationships because Cullen has set the bar SO high how could anyone possibly be as perfect as him in real life
I just understood that Cullen is one of the loneliest character in DA because he fall in love so fast despite actions of Inquisitor. She might be evil or aggro, but he will never stop being with her, in contrast Blackwall or Sera. He doesn't have a special personal quest, expect then you need to talk with him about lirium addiction. He just want to some love and caress even if he could to be involved in relationship with aggro Inquisitor, who might be actually very toxic partner. (sorry for my bad english)
I absolutely adore Cullen’s romance. Especially since we as the players have seen him grow as a person throughout all of the games. I just wish that at the wedding, you could have your companions or maybe those who’s friendship was the highest at the wedding. Also, I wish they gave Trevelyan a vow. Since if you romance Cullen as Levellan, she gets a chance to speak in Elvan her vows to Cullen. But regardless, Cullen is on my top 3 favorite romance options in Inquisition. 😊
I wasn't expecting it after they got interrupted by the guard, so when he kissed my (female human) inquisitor, my breath literally hitched in my chest and my heart started pounding in my ears. I am not okay with a fictional character having this much power 😂
You know when you start a romance and those two nobles in the main hall at Skyhold gossip about you? Because of the VA, I keep getting the unfortunate mental image of Stroud talking about whether you've already boinked Cullen. That lecherous Orlesian.
