Injection pump should be removed as a complete unit, not disassembled like that. Tolerances inside that pump are extremely small and dust particles too small to see with the naked eye will cause damage and accelerated wear. I highly recommend getting that pump to a specialist to have it reassembled, and while its there have them check its performance, flows, pressures, etc. They could also test the condition of the injectors for you. Another recommendation is to get yourself a Perkins service manual, or the CAT SIS program if that engine is covered in SIS. You will need torque specs along with a host of other details to get it properly re-assembled, assuming you don't want to be pulling it back out of the skidsteer again soon for round 2. Good luck!

Thats what companies and dealers tell you to keep you from touching stuff like this. Yes they are assembled in a fairly clean area but its not a white coat NASA lab. I have rebuilt a CAV injection pump and even turned up the power a bit . Also rebuilt a variable displacement piston pump for our bucket truck recently and it has been working excellent for 5 or 6 jobs now. All done in a dirty shop. If you take the time to clean a work area and keep things clean while you put it back together you will be just fine. Manuals are nice too, especially if you run into shim packs and clearance adjustments.

29:45 That's the fuel shut off solenoid, they're pretty much the same across all skid steer engines no matter the make, I did two Kubotas in Bobcat skidsteers and the solenoids were good, turned out to be a messed up start relay due to corrosion from the Hawaii humidity Edit: the machines threw the solenoid code but we tried everything until I went to sit in the machine and my boot hit the relay panel cover and I heard a click, so I started the machine and it fired up like nothing happened

should of pressure wash and cleaned it when you took that engine out instead of cleaning it while the engine was still in.. it'll save you less work lol.. since you've already took the engine out.. got more space to do deep cleaning and paint touch up.. sandblast all needed parts clean and repaint them or powder coat/rhinoline them as future preventative wear and tear including all the engine parts.. Use that cheap harbor freight sandblaster it'll do the job.

When disassembling an engine for example everything you remove should be organized. Main and rod caps need to be orientated the correct way and the correct cylinder ect. Also the part on the back side of the injection pump with a connector is the fuel shutoff solenoid. It extends and cuts off fuel flow. That's how you shut down a diesel engine. I'll give you credit you're not afraid to get in there even if you're not sure what it does or what its for. I'll be looking out for the next video!
@BradenBuildz

Seems to me this style pump only needs to have the cam gear lined up with the idler gear,crank gear and valve train cam. I figured the lobes on the injection pump cam are what make each cylinder get fuel at the correct time.

The turbo carboned up due to incomplete combustion. Piston ring failure or poor valve adjustment.You should always verify oil pressure when first starting up the motor.

The letter D on the block is for the style piston and ring. When a block/cylinder is made the cast begins to wear over time along with the amount of casts they make. When ordering the piston and ring a “D”piston should be ordered to match the block unless you resleeve or bore etc. Also not being a Nancy here at all I’m loving these videos. When loosening your head you should break the bolt loose a 1/4 turn in opposite order of install. By loosening the bolts slowly you reduce your chance of severely warping your head. Another thing I advise you to send your injection pump to someone who does that on the regular. Those can be very finicky in a big way. You may need to completely rebuild it now since when you said as you opened the fuel lines parts went flying. If those parts aren’t with the injections port it was with you will have serious problems with your injection pump. They wear in a certain way in each port and if you put it out of order ea injector will not have the proper regulated fuel too ea one. Loving the videos keep them coming. You got a big project here hope it all works out for you. Best of luck

Not that hard to time. And no machinist wants that to be on the engine while they are cleaning it with high pressure water. Lots of small parts in it that could possibly fall out. No reason for it to be on the block and risk getting damaged.

3:11 if it has low compression in any of the cylinders it won't burn the diesel efficiently, and the engine will produce more soot. Over fuelling can have the same effect but i wouldn't think that is the case in this situation. Also burning oil, but it depends on what hours this engine has or how much blow by it has also.

I’m curious what repair options your machine shop gives you. The spun main bearings will require line boring. With a gear driven cam, that generally isn’t a great option. Possibly they plan to weld the main bearing saddles in the block? Please keep us informed. I have never seen pistons just pounded out and allowed to hit the ground like that. Could just be me, but usually more care is given to protect the rods from being damaged. I wish you luck. I did the same machine/ engine. If I can help, let me know
