Video Description
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have the Google Pixel 8 right here and in today's video I'll be showing you how to unlock its bootloader. And know that all of these steps will be exactly the same for the Pixel 8 Pro as well.
#android #pixel8 #pixel8pro #googlepixel #googlepixel8 #googlepixel8pro
Before we begin this guide, though, I do want to point out that unlocking the bootloader will result in all of your personal data being erased. So if you have any important pictures, videos, apps, or anything else, then back it up before you proceed.
I also need to make note that not all Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro devices can be bootloader unlocked. For example, if you bought one of these phones directly from a wireless carrier in the United States or in Canada, then it's highly likely that the carrier themselves are blocking you from unlocking the bootloader.
So if you run into any issues with the steps that I'm about to show you, then that may be the reason.
The first thing we need to do here is enable Developer Mode. Doing so will reveal a hidden Developer Options menu from within the System area of the Settings application.
Now, I've already shown you how to do this for all Google Pixel devices in the past. So, in an attempt to prevent this video from being longer than it needs to be, I'll be linking to that guide down in the video description below. So you will need to follow those steps to unlock this hidden menu before you can continue.
With that done, let's dive into the Developer Options menu and begin looking for the OEM Unlocking toggle.
This should be fairly close to the top so you shouldn't have to scroll for long.
Enable the toggle to allow the bootloader to be unlocked.
And then confirm that this is what you want to do.
Once the OEM Unlocking toggle has been flipped, we then need to boot the Google Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro into Fastboot Mode.
Again, this is something I have already shown you how to do, so if you're not familiar with this process then check the video description for the link to that dedicated guide.
Now, we're going to need to have ADB & Fastboot tools installed on our PC as well.
So again, if you're not familiar with to set this up, then look in the description for a link to a video that will show you how it's done.
Let's go ahead and plug in a USB cable that is connected to the PC
And then open a Command Prompt, Windows PowerShell, or a Terminal window in the same folder as our ADB & Fastboot tools.
We can also run the command. . .
fastboot devices
To make sure that everything is working properly.
If you're told no device is connected then you may have some USB related issues to troubleshoot.
But if you see your phone's serial number here, then you're good to go.
Now, we're going to run the command. . .
fastboot flashing unlock
This will bring us to an intro page for unlocking the bootloader of the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.
If you want, you can back out now, cancel everything and reboot back into Android with the bootloader still locked.
But if we confirm the process here, then the Pixel 8 will reboot, wipe all of its data, and then reboot back into fastboot mode/the Android OS.
With the phone booted back into Android, we can enable Developer Mode again and check that OEM Unlocking toggle to confirm if the bootloader has been unlocked correctly or not.
It's extremely annoying to view farm by breaking even the tiniest steps into separate videos. It takes less time to actually show how to enable developer options than it does for you to explain why the steps aren't included in this video. For those wondering: Settings > About Phone > Build Number (Tap it repeatedly until you get a toast notification saying it's enabled) > go back > System > Developer options menu.
I get where you're coming from, but if I don't do that then I'll 1) be duplicating my content 2) making people click away becuase they already konw how (to boot into fastboot mode, for example) 3) people search for all different things for a tutorial. they may have looked into a specific step for a different video they are following. so having it separate helps them as well and while that specific step may have only taken a few seconds to explain, having that happen 3-4 times in a video adds up
@@ExplainingAndroid Mark each video timeline and you won't have that issue. Anyone can skip to the section they need because they know where it is. Additionally, you're making it "longer than it has to be" by taking the time to explain that you've already said it. Maybe make a playlist in order if you want to keep them all separately.
When i connect my pxl to pc it works with adb but when i send it to go to the bootloader and write in command prompt "fastboot devices" i see nothing. I don't see number and fastboot. Maybe you know solutions to this?
This sucks, i bought a Google Pixel 8 pro from Verizon. I can't believe im not able to unlock my bootloader!!
@ExplainingAndroid
@ExplainingAndroid 9 месяцев назад
that's a shame! are you able to return it? could then turn around and buy it from the google store (and get it registered with verizon) so you can still be on their network, but with an unlocked/rooted pixel 8 pro too :)
You should have done more research it's a known fact that all Verizon phones can't have bootloaders unlocked. It's literally talked about everywhere
Watching this video on my Poco F5, this process is so easy when it comes to pixel devices! I have done so for Lenovo and xiaomi devices, and there my experience was like 😥
Does unlocking the bootloader stops the updates from the phone or the "find my phone" feature?
You talk so slow and by the time that you tell people to watch your other video, you could have just told us how to enter fastboot mode or something. Even though it's easy, you're making it difficult for people that don't know
Ok and what does it do? Do you have some features unlocked like from 8 Pro? Like for exampel advanced mode in apk camera? 50mp/raw etc?
@MainInternetUser
@MainInternetUser 4 месяца назад
You can install custom roms and root your device. And if you root your device you can really do anything. And you can get 50mp and raw without unlocking the bootloader with custom gcam (google cameras) apk
1:50 Instead of showing how to enable developer mode that will take about 5-10 seconds you must tell us that you don't show it in the video because the video will be longer than it needs to. If you have showed it in the video it should take less time than all that talking you did about it ...
@ExplainingAndroid
@ExplainingAndroid Месяц назад
because it doesn't take 5-10 seconds unless I'm speeding through it. and you can probably already tell, this is not a speedrun channel, I'm teaching people how to do things so they aren't confused or feel rushed
