As a new transplant to southern Utah I am happy to find a "local" fruit aficionado. Our house came with a Utah/Dixie Sweet and it's quite an experience for someone who's only known a Wonderful variety. I heard from a nurseryman here that it will have more flavor (other than sugar-flavor) if they are watered less and fed more, so I hope it will turn around some next season. I wanted to say that I love your pruning them into trees as well. I am about to go clean up our uncared for "wild shrub" and make a tree out of it. Oh, and I knew it was time to harvest when the birds told me they were ready :-)
Pomegranate flowers and bear fruits fast, afte a year for grafted trees. Even young trees bear fruit, just not as much. If they get a lot of sun, they grow very fast.
Desertnyi is very similar to Wonderful if you ever tasted wonderful. Wonderful variety is bigger and deeper red, but the taste profile are almost the same, sweet and hast some tart, but very flavorful. My favorite is Utah sweet, its almost clear with hint of pink. Utah sweet is probably the sweetest, and has the taste profile of almost like sugar cane or rock candy. I do like Wonderful and Desertnyi because it has more layers of flavor, not just sugar sweet like Utah
@@GreenMangoes unfortunately Long my garden is very small, I don't have space for a greenhouse. I do have space for a summer house that arrives at the end of January, I hope I will be able to overwinter the citrus in that 🤞
I followed you for 2-3 years on your persimmon tree. I used to live in Concord, CA but moved to Las Vegas last year. before i moved, you planted your persimmon tree and I've been looking for updates. You finally updated your video and found that your tree didn't get any fruits yet. I live in the Mountains Edge area and want to try growing a Pomegranate tree but i'd hate to buy one and it doesn't grow. I was wondering if maybe i can get a branch from you as i love how your tree is fruitful. There is a house about two doors down but his doesn't look too healthy.
Awesome video! Definitely helped me with my pomegranate. I'm a little nervous about mine. It may be dying. But I'll get another one and follow the advice from here. Look forward to the next one.
@@GreenMangoes I think I was over watering it. I got it a month ago and I was watering it everyday or every other day😳. It was still over 100 degrees or in the high 90's so I thought I was doing a good thing. The leaves turned yellow and then they all fell off. Only a few leaves left. I went to star nursery and they said a pomegranate only needs to be watered 3 times a week max. It was in its 5 gallon bucket. 🤦♀️
@@ashleyprophete1010 also possible because of over water. Best thing to do is get a hold of a bigger pot 7 gallons or even transplant inground (inground might be best option now). Remove plant from current pot. Do not pull it out, instead use razor knife and careful cut the bottom around, then make a slit vertical to remove the pot. Inspect if you have standing water on bottom. Next step is buy foxfarm potting soil from Star and repot. After repot. Immediately mix 2 to 3 gallons of water, 3 tablespoons of epsom salt, 3 tablespoon of vitamin B1, DR. Q transplant stress solution, and seaweed extract. Mix well and water immediately. Star Nursery carries all above. Don’t give up, it still has life.
@@GreenMangoes yes some of the leaves curled up. It was like that when I got it. The leaves were green but when I touched it they crumbled in my hand. I I figured it needed a lot of water but I think i drowned. After about 3 weeks, the tree was pretty much bare... so I took it out direct sin light and put it in half sun/half shade.
