0:52 Confirm The Owner of Chromebook
So, the first thing you have to do is find out the owner of the Chromebook. If the Chromebook was set up by the school then they may have set themselves as the owner. You can check this by going to the settings in your Chromebook. Scroll down and then, click on Manage other people. If you see, “These settings may only be modified by the owner,” written then this means that the owner is the school.
Unfortunately, this means that you can’t control or manipulate many of the settings, including the most important one. Guest browsing. If guest browsing is on in your Chromebook then this means that anyone with a Gmail account can use it and the Chromebook won’t keep the web history. This also means you can’t keep an eye on your kid’s browsing.
If your school is set up as the owner, then do contact their IT person and make sure that guest browsing is turned off.

However, if the school isn’t the owner, and it’s your personal Chromebook then things become much easier.
The first thing you have to do is ensure that you, the parent are the “owner” of the Chromebook. This owner will function like the admin and control all the settings of the Chromebook. If your child has already been set up as the “owner” then just do a factory reset and set yourself as the owner.

Now, the next thing you have to do once you’re the owner is turn off guest browsing. For that, all you have to do is sign in as the owner. Go to the lower right corner and there you’ll see the icon for settings. Click on it, and then scroll down and click on manage other people. Here you can see the option for guest browsing and all you have to do is switch it off.
Just a line below that, you might also see the option to restrict sign-in. If you want, you can turn that off too.

Now, the next important thing you need to do is make sure that your child can access only clean DNS. This will ensure that your child can’t visit any websites with violence, mature content, weapons and so much more.
For that, once again go to the settings. You’ll see an arrow next to the wifi you’re connected to. Click on that. You will now see a list of available wifi connections. Once again, click on the arrow next to the wifi you’re connected to and then click on the down arrow that’s next to “Network.” Here, you will see some options including the one called, “Name servers.” From here go to Custom name servers. Click on that. Then you’ll see some lines, and in the first line, type 185.228.168.168, and in the second line type 185.228.169.168 These are some good clean DNS addresses.
