A couple of additional thoughts which I dont think have been included in your excellent video: The first is that, in general, robot mowers which utilise a boundary wire or which rely upon visual navigation, cut in a random pattern while those which use GPS (or similar) are able to cut in a predictable pattern. This is important because a predictable pattern looks nicer (you can have pseudo stripes, for instance) and the cutting efficiency is far better (a whole garden can be cut more quickly - ie. not randomly). Obviously, GPS based control costs more up front and, in some cases, has ongoing data charges over the air to maintain accurate position and to not repeat cuts which were done on previous days. The second consideration is ongoing support. The cheapest mower models can sometimes be considered as throw away items. As the price increases it's nice to think that somebody will be there to fix or replace it and this is certainly true for the middle range units. A number of the most expensive mowers come from well known manufacturers who have local dealerships to which you can take the mower if it packs up or if it doesn't respond to firmware updates or functional issues. Some, however, come via a web transaction and are supplied by small start up companies who have a strong web presence but no local support. Your only help is via forum or RU-vid and in the worst case you may need to box up the unit and ship it away for repair. These units can be quite large and relatively heavy and you could be stuck without a mower for a long time. In my case I purchased an RTK based mower from a well known manufacturer and a local dealership who treat me well. I had a number of minor issues at the start - nothing serious - and the dealership arranged for a support manager to visit and sort things out. Since then the mower has been excellent. Prior to purchase my wife thought that this was a bit of a "big boys toy". Within a few days, a little bit or swearing (from me) while programming the boundaries, and the area manager visit, the mower was nicely installed and we both love it. We cut about 0.6 of an acre - much of it an irregular shape. While costly to buy, the time saving is immense and we are both delighted with our purchase. For a reasonable sized garden they really are a game changer!

Hi Thanks so much for your comment, insights and experience of your own RTK guided mower. Yes I agree that some will want a white glove install and local on-going support. I think this is something that Mammotion will provide as the brand expands Globally. Thanks again Mark

Great video. Are there any robotic mowers that can also trim edges against a wall? (I currently use a strimmer) Also, are any of these suitable for Spanish lawns ?
@EasyLawnMowing
@EasyLawnMowing Месяц назад
Most robotic mowers need some trimming, but it depends if the mower can straddle the lawn and the border. They will need to be flat and level so the mower can cut the entire edge. Thanks

Excellent video - thanks very much. My question, if I may, is can I get a robot lawnmower to dock just off the lawn itself? I want the lawnmower to park itself at the side of the lawn so that it's mostly out of sight, and where my boys won't trip over it playing football or running around.
@EasyLawnMowing

Hi, what type of mower in terms of navigation were you considering? The GPS/RTK will be able to do this. The boundary wire models will depend on the make and model you purchase as all have different requirements when it come to the charging station.

Great video, thank you. My rear lawn is around 1000sqm, but I cant justify spending Luba money. I'm actually considering 3 lawnmaster L10s. 1 for the front lawn of around 200sqm and 2 for the rear lawn, each with their own 500sqm zones. Do you forsea any issues with running 2 on a single lawn? Provided the boundry wires are correct I don't inagine it being a problem.
@EasyLawnMowing
@EasyLawnMowing Год назад
Thanks, pleased it was helpful. The only issue with your proposal I can see is where the 2 zones on a single lawn join. You will need to leave a gap between them (creating an uncut lawn), otherwise they will venture into each others zones. I tried this on my front lawn with the WORX range of mowers and I needed to leave a narrow path in between on these zones. I would contact Cleva to confirm with them what gap needs to be left between the 2 perimeter wires.

Great videos Mark! Seriously considering the Luba, how good is the quality of cut in appearance, I currently use a Hater rotary with Roller which when cut the grass does look good, for a few days anyway!
@EasyLawnMowing
@EasyLawnMowing Год назад
Hi, The cut quality is really good as long as you change/turn the blades when they become blunt. I have just changed the blades after nearly 3 months as I noticed the cut was not as clean and it started missing the longer straw grass. Naturally any lawn stripes are not going to last long and the Luba brushes the lawn as opposed to rolling it.

My flymo robot mower stopped working straight after the end of the guarantee. Did the straightforward things, battery change and voltage check with multimeter. Website and helpline give a long list of agents but none that I have called (I have called lots) do repairs. So bear in mind you might be replacing it after 3 years. Guess it depends if you think that is good value or not....

@@EasyLawnMowing Thanks the UK is way ahead on robot lawn mowers. Seems like they are just starting to gain traction in the states. There are allot of companies coming up with GPS units. The boundary wire seems like it would be more of a hassle initially but if done correctly would less likely to have issues later. How smart does it really need to be to mow the grass. Be wary of just using amp/hours as an indication of battery energy capacity ... the amp/hour rating is only half the story, the other half being voltage. Basically a 2Ah battery at 18V has half the energy (Watt/hours) of a battery that is 2Ah at 36V ... multiply the Amps by the Volts to get the Watts (or in this case Watt/hours). I don't know why tool and garden equipment batteries don't explicitly state the capacity in Watt/hours then you could compare different voltage tools more readily... after all you can get a little AA battery that has 2Ah capacity and it clearly doesn't have the energy capacity of a 2Ah tool battery pack.
@EasyLawnMowing
@EasyLawnMowing 15 дней назад
Thank you for your insightful comment! You make an excellent point about the importance of considering both amp-hours and voltage when evaluating battery capacity. The watt-hour (Wh) measurement indeed provides a clearer picture of the total energy available in a battery, as it combines both the amp-hour and voltage ratings. It's true that many manufacturers focus on amp-hours, which can be misleading when comparing batteries of different voltages. By providing the capacity in watt-hours, consumers would have a much easier time making informed decisions about which tools or equipment best meet their energy needs. Your comparison with AA batteries is a great illustration of how capacity can vary significantly across different battery types. Hopefully, more manufacturers will adopt clearer labeling practices in the future to help consumers better understand battery performance. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this topic!
