Gardening is work and therapy for me. Nature is God's playground. What about a climbing Eden rose on your new arbor? And gardening is cheaper than therapy!

Mulch helps conserve water and enrich the soil as it decomposes. As a bonus mulch discourages weeds.

Cannot believe summer is ending. I'm pulling tired annuals and getting ready to have mulch laid this fall. Gardens are for their gardeners. Perfect is not necessary.

I love the feel of your garden- the big trees, the lawn in between garden beds and the beautiful shutters on your home. I also appreciate the very honest and real walk through your garden- so lovely! Thank you xx

It is almost the end of summer, and a lot of plants are tired. I might be tired too. Your trellises look really pretty! The beans and tomatoes look good! I tried sungold tomatoes. They didn't do very well at all. The pesky deer ate a lot of the foliage and flowers. No flowers, no tomatoes. Argh!😠 I am looking forward to the cooler temperatures of fall. In southeastern NC, zone 8a, we are in the most active hurricane time, September and October, so I really pay attention to the weather. It's nice to see another real garden; my garden is real too. Some things look good, other things not so much. Thanks for the tour.

Progress, not perfection… my trainer gave me that mantra but it fits for my garden journey too! Honestly, as much as like seeing aspirational gardens, I love seeing “real life”. Thank you for sharing ❤

Sleep, creep and leap….the three year plan! I was surprised how my white gomphrena from seed branched out and nicely filled empty spaces this late in year and added pops of brightness!

That saying has proven so true. When i practice a little patience and water regularly & deeply, I'm rewarded. Even so, things are looking tired and ready for autumn after two months of dry heat.

I like your hair! We've had virtually no rain for 2 years and no snow last winter. Lawns are brown, leaves turning brown and falling off, even my native plants are drooping and the weeds are the worst I've ever seen. They aren't wilting! I'm in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

The struggle is real for me , I don’t have irrigation and I’m outside watering ALL of the time. We’re dry here , rain has moved around us all summer long, I think we’ve had only two decent rainfalls this summer. 🌺💚🙃 Laura and Aaron are getting all of our rain🤣🌺💚🙃 Garden Answer.

I understand the frustration. I had a vision of a fuller, lusher garden this year. It looks better than last year’s but I sometimes feel disappointed. But each year I’m learning which plants work and which ones don’t. Thank you

I’m SURE you know this Jenny, but keep the pot your mint is in OFF the ground ! I had mint planted in a pot sitting on the ground in my garden, unfortunately I didn’t keep an eye on it, it jumped ship, the roots grew out of the bottom of the pot and now I have mint ALL over my garden. And I mean ALL over, dummy me! I keep pulling and pulling mint 😱 the only plus side if one would want to call it that, is it keeps the rabbits and other critters out of that section of the garden. I will forever be pulling mint ! Maybe another plus is it smells really good when I pull it up. I guess I should also mention that the pot of mint was in a spot in my garden that is being reworked, tamed, this year so I really paid no attention to that area for a long time, and that’s when it went WILD ! 🌺💚🙃

I have lemon balm that shows up Way away from the original plant. Hostas are a pain also as one snippet of root and it comes back.

@@HarmonyHillsHomeandGarden you would about this variety. They shoot up a purple flower then look terrible the rest of season. I think they are called plaintan. They aren’t the nice clump forming variety.

I think your gardens look fairly well for this time of the year. I live in southeastern PA, zone 6, and it has been very dry here. We have 2 rain barrels and that waters most of my gardens, but not much help when they empty and we have no rain to fill them. I agree with you...and am making difficult decisions of what plants to keep. Trying to keep stuff that is low maintenance and doesn't need constant care from me. The older I get, I am tiring out and need to make decisions of what I can dedicate my time and energy to.....but I will never completely give up. I will always have some type of garden to take care of...even if it's just a few containers 😊

Ever since last year I’ve been planting mostly drought tolerant plants and native (to my area) plants. My only exception are roses.

I'm in Oklahoama, zone 7a. I have drip in most my beds cuz what I'd have here is no plants if I went with only what the weather allowed. So I run my drip almost daily in some summer months. I had a station controller installed that makes it not run if it rains, water more over 90°, etc. It was worth the money. Heck, it's paid for itself in plants saved.

Please remember, it's that time of year. I think this is the time when lots of things look a little tired. My garden has lots of fungal issues this year, whereas last year it was dry and crispy. The weather can be so unpredictable. But remember, Autumn is coming! My favorite season is Autumn. I cannot wait for the fall colors to come in. I think we are in the transition phase from Summer to Fall right now. Do you have blue mistflower? I haven't finished the video yet, but if you don't have blue mistflower, maybe try it. It may get you some color in this little lull we have right now. I have it in my own garden, and although it too has the fungal issues here and there, it still has gorgeous blooms and are really shining right now when less is blooming. Hope that helps! It's native and butterflies and small bees love it.

I like seeing reality gardens makes me feel better ha! I grew gomphrena seeds in the spring and LOVE them! “Hooked and Rooted” gave me the idea and they are seeds that germinate easily & quickly if you direct sow. They remind me of dum dum suckers! I love zinnia but I think I like gomphrena more cuz they don’t get powdery mildew.

What do you use for a deer deterrent? Could you place white with green hostas in the flower bed at the front door? It would give it some contrast.

I think u r a busy person who loves to garden but you’re just too busy to handle all you have. Don’t feel bad about about it, just scale back your gardens a bit so you can have more success!! And with the way you battle deer I’m shocked you would add another shrub border?

Ugh, Deer!! They ruin everything! They rip and nip at leaves. They taste test as they go. We have to fence any plants we want to keep as they will ruin the ones that taste best. In this drought anything tastes great to them. I just planted penstemon this year from seed and hope they make the winter in WI. You have a lot of shade and we do not. I think even if we did it wouldn’t feel that way because of our microclimate desert like environment. I’m surprised you have any plants with deer. Everything looks wonderful and hopefully the plants will mature before the deer eat them to nubs.
