I'm honestly kind of relieved to find out that finisher #4 is an OGCD, as funny as the concept was the idea of 45 sec long triple melee did kind of feel excessive

It was easy to discern the action was an ability. There's actually a certain visual language. You'll notice it more if you try to take screen shots of cool action poses and the effects get in the way. There's a blue glow from the feet up to the waist for OGCD/Abilities. A lot of weapon skills and especially the Red Mage finishers (Holy/Flare/Scorch/Resolution) have the green lines effect. You see all of this stuff so much that you typically tune it out. The green lines you only notice when they ruin all of your screen shots of verflare and verholy when you want to snap a picture of your character's animation.

If we had another GCD, at least our Flèche/C6 would align properly without drifting 😭 the fact accel is used to make sure they don’t drift (bc odd number of gcd’s in burst). But also it would be pretty damn extra for ANOTHER gcd finisher haha.

Use your abilities wisely (read: don’t blatantly use Sprint while you have a DC proc) and it certainly won’t. XD

@@shadieeryaqati4514 Or they could just change it so that RDM isn't the ONLY job in the whole game that has to worry about that particular problem. Just because you "can" play around it doesn't make it any less annoying.

Never expected grand impact to be a separate buffed ability. Two instant casts with swiftcast also being 40s is actually a change i wanted but didnt expect

No kidding. Especially when I misjudge how much mana I have or accidentally hit a button that spends that mana. It should be WAY easier to fit in that triple burst now.

Nice job on manafication changes, it does the same as its previous itterations only now us RDM mains wont overcap on mana, also im glad that the aoe rotation is now obly 50/50, it nade no sense being 60/60, overall, im a happy RDM 😅

If the melee combo is still an odd number of attacks (it sounds like the additions are oGCD), then the Accel 2 changes could be pretty annoying to deal with when it comes to adjusting what GCD your dualcast is on. Will have to see.

The big issue right now is that Grand Impact replaces Jolt 3. If you run out of Verfire/Verstone procs you'd be forced to spend Grand Impact...It'd be wonderful if it's just Impact that turned into Grand Impact since that will make Contre/Fleche realignment really consistent as you'll be having a Grand Impact saved for it. But as it stands that is not gonna be possible.

As a RDM main not something I would want. The hybrid thing RDM does in the rest of the series doesn't work in XIVs format.

Shadowbringers: You get an explosion after Verflare / Verholy Endwalker: You get another explosion after that, but it's a beam! Dawntrail: You get another explosion after the beam, but it's oGCD! I have an idea for quality of life, make Corpse a Corpse not do damage, thank you!

The only down side I see here is that In my crossbars I distinguish between "skills that I use when I move" and "buffs that I mostly use when not moving" and now they transformed 2 buffs into offGCD attacks so It will kill my muscle memory and my RDM crossbar since Stormblood.

Losing the downtime Manafication rush is a bummer. Honestly would be perfectly okay with the job for Dawntrail if they didn't make Manafic a buff instead of just the 50/50 gauge.

Just looking at the default state of the hotbar, there seems to be only ONE new button/icon change. Also, I LIKED Manafication interacting with the job HUD meters... I also liked Moulinet being 60 mana instead of 50. Not everything in the entire game needs to operate in the same 50/100 meter dynamic...

I and a LOT of other RDM players both did not how unimpactful spamming Moulinet felt, for such a steep MP cost. The gauge glowing like you are able to do a combo but not really is not enjoyable and messes with people. I agree the gauges don't have to work that way of strict 50/100, but it is 10x easier to work around and change things then saying "oh let us give weird gauge value for using these skills" since it can result in overcapping, or needing to adjust potencies and skills around how much they can gain. It's fine to like it, but it is 100% extremely flawed and disliked by a large facet of the community and needed to change. It has new animations, more potency, and is easier to use for all levels

I’m happy that Red Mage feels relatively the same, but I wish they gave it a rework that gave us more melee options. one single target combo and one aoe combo feels very limiting to what they advertised RDM to be.

I was already pretty happy with where RDM is, so it being mostly the same is good news. However, the aoe melee combo should have always just cost 50.

RDM combo has always been 50 cost. It's only 60 if you do it with Moulinet.

Red Mage turns out not to be as bad as expected but the job still feels poorly designed and as if the job is only in the game for the sake of being in the game. Red Mage combines White and Black magic but more than a bar that you fill for some stronger skills, the concept isn't used that much. There is little identity for each aspect and feels like unfinished, PvP despite being very bare bones does something more interesting with the concept than the regular version. By giving the Red Mage a White Magic and Black Magic mode to switch between. I wish to have that with the regular version. Would be better if there is a White Magic and a Black Magic mode with each mode having more identity of it's own. The White Magic mode that does less damage but gives utility like heals, buffs, shields and rez. Everything cost white mana that you build and Black Magic mode is for damage and build up. At some point you have to switch between these modes because you build less and less mana and you skills that cost white or black mana consume for per usage, your mana gain is very high at the beginning. After switching modes the costs and are reset and penalties are reset. In each mode you can always use Red Magic if you have enough white and black mana but certain skills give you one for free, and those combine different aspects like Scorge could give all melees in it's explosion radius a damage buff and so on. Rez can't be abused that often because it is in White Magic mode only and after the first usage which cost normal mana, it cost white mana if you use it again and only resets if you switch to Black Magic mode. If you stay too long in each mode you get penalties for example rez gives a debuff to the person that was rezed, if the person dies within 60 sec again, only a healer can bring them back again, your rez doesn't work on that person anymore. There are buffs that allow you to stay in each mode despite having higher costs and lower mana gain if you need the extra time window but you have to deal with the penalties. This is what i think would give Red Mage more identity and plays more into Red Mage using both white and black magic. Right now there isn't that much there and one heal, one rez and two buffs isn't enough to really go with the theme.

Every spell IS Red Magic, just Verstone Verthunder etc. are all BASED off of preexisting spells I see where you are coming from but this is really tricky if you are locking parts of your kit behind some things. Punishing players for gauge mismanagement exists largely as overcapping, but inflicting the player and ALLIES with debuffs is a lot of things to add that is confusing and harmful. But you are looking at this as this should be Red Mage from this game you played that is not a PvE MMORPG. Red Mage in lore and everything is supposed to be a spell slinger that uses the aether they give off from movement to channel stronger magic, which is where the sword play lies in. Red Mages in FFXIV duelists who know how to create their own form of Black and White magic. It isn't like in other FF games where they have access to Black Magic, and White Magic at a weaker level then a normal B/W Mage would. Sage is an example of a class that exists pre XIV but is altered to fit the world and gameplay of FFXIV. DRK too, it doesn't expend HP to attack because it simply would not work as a tank which is what they needed and made it to be.

@@SuperSnivMatt I get your point and would say that you can do it without penalties but rez need some restrictions because it's very strong on Red Mage and one of the reasons why the FF XIV team is thinking about to remove rez from magic dps. I don't want it to go away from Red Mage but it should be nerfed a bit because it's crazy how much you can cheese difficult content with it. This skill alone plays a huge part into their identity when it comes to more challenging content because you never pick Red Mage for the damage, you pick them despite of the damage because the quick ability to rez others is huge. I get what you say that some jobs had to be changed to fit within the MMORPG dress that is FF XIV but i would argue that you can still have these White and Black modes without contradicting that. They are a more in depth extention of it. You also have that in PvP as a way more simplyfied version and the PvP version of jobs so far don't really contradict their lore.

@@jacobkern2060 I understand your perspective, but you need a middle-ground. Like, I've been a RDM main since stormblood. The job is essentially the same as it was then, just with little tweaks. I can't speak for everyone, but personally, I like changes.

Have you seen people's reaction the moment a rework for a job is barely mentioned? It's easy to say that things get stale and need to be shaken up from time to time but when people are so terrified that their job might change in any way, it becomes a difficult call to make.
