Awesome video man! I've had my Studiobricks since December and absolutely love it! To be able to step in to the booth whenever I need to record, as opposed to waiting for traffic to calm down or my neighbor to finish mowing his lawn, has been a game changer for me. I recently recorded two of my latest demos inside the booth, it sounds that good! I loved listening to your experience because it was very similar to mine. Let's just say that it took a bit longer than the seven minutes to assemble that they show in the video, lol. As far as the fancy lighting you were talking about, I added an LED light strip that I had originally purchased to go around my desk. It just sticks right on, so it was super simple to install, and its not as harsh as the lighting that comes with the booth. Between the LED lighting (which is usually on a color rotation) and the light from my monitor, I don't need to use the original. Thanks for making this video, I definitely enjoyed it!

Thank you SO MUCH for this in-depth review. It's EXACTLY what I needed. I had my heart set on a StudioBricks a couple years back, but then life happened and I sadly lost both the motivation and the means to move forward with my aspirations. Today I randomly saw this video in my suggested and it lit a little something in my mind. After watching your review, I suddenly feel as if something precious has returned to me. I WANT TO FULL-ON PLUNGE BACK INTO THIS WORLD NOW...and as recent luck would have it, I now have the cash to make it happen with this booth! The noisefloor depends on the microphone you have and how loud the room outside the booth is. On my shotgun microphone it was lower than -70 and the cardioid -63 or so

You can do it! Hope you ended up getting everything set up! And yes i stand some times but sometimes I'm on a stool. Just depends on how long my chapters are.
Finally an in depth review of the use of a Studio Bricks. I have no idea why no one has done such an extensive user review before. But this certainly helps my decision making process as to whether or not to go with one of these. I have been thinking about getting one for a few years now.

Hi! I'm new to the Book Narration. Just starting to get all my research going. Every voice actor I was watching on RU-vid said the thing that will make the biggest difference in your sound is a proper recording space. So, I started researching. Like you, I saw all the big companies and it seemed to me that Studiobricks appears to be the best option for a voiceover actor. Thank you so much for putting up this review. I'd also like to say it was great to hear that it paid for itself in the month and a half. That's GREAT!
Oh. my. gosh. The part where you're talking about not being able to keep out airplanes, dogs and neighbors and you just slap that obnoxious audio right over top of your speech just killed me XD Loved it
wow best informative video I've found! Not looking to buy one for now, just had time to kill and was looking at the same brands you were and I happened to stumble here. Voice Over/Acting is something i always had a slight interest in, but never really explored the possibility, but I like to be informed about the "high end" in advance :) I've been rambling, just wanted to say I love your voice, still have to look at the rest of the channel but in any case I wish you all the best for your future!
This was a lovely, thorough review. I’m a fellow voice actor and I’ve been having my eye on one of these for a couple of years now. I’m in a second story apartment, so I’m just wondering if structurally it can bear the load. The offgassing you’re talking about from the chemicals is really something to consider. I would intend to leave the door open and air it out for at least a week before I actually started using it. (And the company already uses a less toxic glue and a water based lacquer.) Even in my home built closet booth, that was offgassing from acoustic foam and other things that I used - without any glue. So I guess it just comes with the territory. Are you happy you chose this over the competition. Now they have a brochure with prices for 2023 and new versions. I'm looking at a 4x6 Pro with wall window and acoustic wood door instead of glass door. I believe they have floor isolation in it now as well. I just want to make the right choice. I keep getting pointed in studiobricks way.
I am very satisfied with my booth. There's always more bells and whistles to add if you want it to look a certain way but my base model does the job well
Thanks for posting this! I'm just starting my career as a voice actor and am saving money to buy a professional booth like this. Like you before StudioBricks, I too am currently using moving blankets but draped over a 5 x 5" pop-up tent which does the trick but is not completely sound resistant. These ones seem very pricey but worth it considering it's portability.
Hey Jonny, thanks for this! I pulled the trigger on purchasing a SBOne VO Edition just last week and am told the booth will be in NY on 5/24. I won't hold my breath, as everyone says this process is really quite frustrating. And working with the installer also pretty rough, even though he's knowledgable and super-nice. He's a bit unreliable regarding timing...like 4 hours late for various "reasons" seems to be the norm. I wonder if you're in the NYC metro area because if you are, we'll be working with the same guy. Here's hoping mine actually arrives NEXT WEEK!
I’m watching this because I’m trying to make music and I want to do voice over work because my voice is unique and deep. Lots of people say they like my voice for some reason. I just bought a 6’ x 4’ booth and I’m in the middle of setting it up. My goodness the floor and roof pieces are heavy but the door is another level of heavy. I had to unload it from the bottom floor and bring it up to my apartment too. Thank goodness for elevators.
@@jonnyunitus7166 I love it! Currently I don’t have a desk that fits so I’m waiting on that. Of course I’ve tested it and I’m so impressed with the sound reduction and quality.
Studio bricks is more about sound proofing than treatment. It’s boxy as hell, but some people like that. You hear it all the time even on national commercials . I’ve tried all kinds of spaces and treatments and I’ve come to the conclusion that In a small space you have a choice between too muffled or too boxy. The best sound I had was a good size room with audio blankets hanging two feet from the walls, but that might not work for keeping outside noises out.
Well I'd say it's more sound reduction than sound proofing but yes some people don't have their booth set up in a way that doesn't sound boxy. Depends on a ton of factors like microphone, audio chain even how close your mic is to the wall or where you are in relation to the door and if you have bass traps in the booth or not. I do agree a larger studio room is ideal because there's more noise dispersed and less reverberating directly back into the microphone if you treat the room well. But it all depends on what a person needs. I didn't have an isolated room like that in my home so the booth was the best option for me as it is for many others
Great info I loved the review! Quick question, I know you mentioned you squeezed your own table in there instead of upgrading to have a desk. I would most likely do the same to save money. Can you squeeze a chair in there too even if it's the smallest model like the one you bought?
Hello, great video! I was hoping you could clarify something for me. During the financing segment you mentioned that you had problems with the process. Did you finance the booth through Studio Bricks? Or was it a personal loan through the bank. I planned on just putting it on my credit card. Thanks in advance
Similar to what another person said in the comments, I am taking vocal lessons and I am extremely shy to sing knowing my family members will hear. I love to sing and my instructor said I also should record it but I can’t do it comfortably around people. I was going to plan to buy this but now I’m not sure since you said the sound will bleed and if you are in the living room (where I planned to place it) people that walk by it will probably be able to hear me, right? It depends on how loud you sing . Very few affordable options will be completely sound proof. Basically it will greatly reduce how loud you sound. However, if you're in the living room people could also just watch you through the door. So are you more concerned with people watching or listening to you? You won't be loud enough to disturb other people but if you are belting it out, yeah they'll hear you.
PS-quick questions: Did the chemical odors go away? Typically this kind of off-gassing is needed for lots of our normal household products like carpeting, paint and even some mattresses. I saw someone else's SB One VO edition last week and the smell was pretty strong. If it went away, about how long did that take? Thanks!!
I don't notice it anymore but i used to keep a piece of scented wax in there to help and keeping the ventilation on while in the booth helps. Maybe run that for a few days to help circulate the air in addition to keeping the door open when you can
@@blakejohnson1264 generally pretty good at that. If you’re very concerned about that make sure that the booth is in a room that doesn’t have a lot of foot traffic. So an extra room or an office is perfect. Generally speaking no one in my house complains about the noise of it even if they are in the room with me but outside of the booth. They can tell you are talking but it’s generally very quiet
The one is a decent size. If I'm hitting the walls then my movement may be a little too exaggerated and i need to be in more control. If I did more animation work perhaps that would be a concern but the size doesn't bother me honestly

Yeah for sure, you're probably gonna want to bag up the small pieces and maybe buy some bubble wrap to protect the wall pieces and door however. And ensure they can't slide around
gotta be real with you I like to sing very loud and only had the curage so far to do that in my car. But now that I sold it I was curious if there is some alternative to sing loud at home. So just here because im curious :)
I sing, yell, shout. yesterday i had to play a character who was crying 😭 no one else in my house heard me. However, this would be an awfully expensive thing to buy if you just wanted to sing for yourself 😂
Man oh man, I’m in love with this booth from an aesthetic point of view. But that CS experience turned me off. I appreciate the transparency. Do you notice any reverb when recording while standing vs sitting? I’m on the Stellar X2 right now but the 416 is in my sights after I cross 50k in revenue. No problem man. Yeah everyone was courteous but the financing was a pain. I think if i bought it straight out or secured a loan outside of their finance partner it would have been smoother. As far as the reverb that's not a thing at all in my booth regardless of standing or sitting. I prefer to record standing however. I could a do comparison video. Next video will probably be a review of some other items I've purchased recently but I'll add that to the list.
The whirlwind u went through w, the purchasing process is common w, studio bricks.. thats why i went w, a U.S. based company WhisperRoom, good 2 know everything worked out 4u eventhough u went through the stress of the process. 🙁
Great, question, I used medium sized metal clips that you could find at Walmart or Staples, and clipped it on the top edge of the booth. there is like a thin lip on it.
Hey, is this worth buying as a new aspiring voice over artist? I live near a loud neighborhood. Traffic non stop. I've tried making my own home tent booth but it just ain't working. Feel like this might be the only way for me start recording. Would this be good enough to block traffic outside my window?
It would be good enough to block out traffic for sure however i wouldn't recommend buying it if you're brand new to the industry. Mainly because you haven't really made any money doing it yet and it's a hefty investment to make if you're not making the money to pay for it
@@jonnyunitus7166 yeah, I understand its a huge investment. I'm new to the industry, I've been trying to start for a while though, unfortunately my apartment won't allow me to. My Condenser mic picks up everything. Voice over and Voice Acting is a dream of mine and its something I want to commit to, This booth may be the only way for me to ever start.
@@emmanuelsanchez4321 I'd recommend using a dynamic mic, put up some sound treatment for reverb and learn appropriate values for a noise gate in your daw first before spending thousands of dollars. The last thing you need is to buy this and then a few months later it's just taking up space and you aren't making any money with it ya dig?

@@emmanuelsanchez4321 yeah the sm7b is pretty solid. Shure has a few mics that are worth checking out. Sm57 and they have one for podcasters that's worth checking out as well
Sound proofing is a whole other animal itself. My daughter can watch cartoons and it's not be picked up but if something loud is happening in the room itself then yeah it will get heard. However if it's in a generally call and quiet location it will be more than enough to do what you need
